A few weeks ago, I mentioned to a friend that I was in the middle of Margaret Atwoodâs The Handmaidâs Tale. "Itâs like 1984 for feminists, right?" he asked. Sort of, I said. But itâs a lot scarier. Itâs about how youâll lose every
hey friends this article is super interesting check it out if you wish (esp. if youâve read Atwood)

yuri on ice and idealized love
upon my⊠perhaps thirtieth viewing of yuri on ice, i realized what the twist in episode ten gave the story as a whole (outside of absolute hilarity and clever storytelling):
it allowed both yuuri and viktor to disillusion themselves of the idealized romantic narratives they had developed for each other.
for yuuri, itâs obvious. viktor is his idol and at the very beginning of the story he turns away from the person he adores the most. heâs confident that theyâll never be able to skate with each other as equals, since he just ruined his chance. itâs uncertain just how romantic in nature yuuriâs idea of meeting viktor at his level and skating against each other was, but what is certain is at the beginning of the story, he is convinced that he will never get to do so.Â
dreams, crushed.
for viktor it is different. he meets yuuri at a boring party at what very well may be the end of his career. he is shown a wild, wonderful night, and this ball of life and passion begs to be his coach. for whatever reason the way he responds to yuuri in that moment (flushed cheeks, sudden intake of breath) indicates heâs smitten. but then yuuri disappears, only to reappear skating to his routine. one that is that is only eclipsed in difficulty by how fucking gay it is. so he runs to japan, only to find an anxious, lost young man who has no idea what heâs doing, and who shies away from the slightest contact, physical or emotional. especially viktorâs. he doesnât seem to want him at all.Â
heart, broken.Â
with those idealized concepts thrown off, the two of them begin to interact with each other as people. viktor still sees huge potential in yuuri, and is inspired by him. with viktor, yuuri slowly gets his love of skating back, what he wanted in the very first episode. this is the even footing yuuri wanted. this is the slow seduction viktor imagined.Â
and so they fall in love for real, no more idealized heroes for yuuri to prove himself to, no passionate lotharios to sweep viktor away from a life that has become a cage. just two men who like to skate and learn from each other.Â

Mammals both produce milk and have hair. Ergo, a coconut is a mammal.
I know youâre being facetious, but this is an actual issue with morphology-based phylogeny.
*leans over and whispers to person beside me* what are they talking about
*leans over and whispers back* Â Human ability to quantify and categorize natural phenomena is sketchy at best and wildly misleading at worst
consider the coconut
this reminds me of that time Plato defined humans as âfeatherless bipedsâ and Diogenes ran in with a plucked chicken screaming âBEHOLD A MAN!â
