Reading your first draft aloud.

It is easily my favorite thing to do, the mistakes and inconsistencies you stumble upon can give you quite a laugh. I can’t be the only one that gets a kick out of their basic errors.

Atticus covered his mouth with his other arm as the putrid stench of death surrounded them. “Minotaur, and it’s very fresh. We need to get back to the Capital.” Atticus placed his boot on the head of the decapitated beast and pushed it off of his sword. He then dropped to his knees and shoveled the items into his pack.

Jade moved to help, but stopped abruptly when she noticed that Blue had turned around to face the way that he had come. His scales flared in glints of purple and dark red, his growls pierced the quiet night air. Just beyond the illuminated hedges and brambles, a giant horned shadow approached them.
