Let me say that while I don’t ship ItaFushi/FushiIta, I’m not going to sit here and say Megumi isn’t queer coded or pansexual coded (that hc is specifically self projection but idc) and I’m definitely not going to deny the way he resonates with other queer teens specifically in that regard. And I’m definitely not going to hate on the fans who do ship them and accuse them of having a fetish, I know some of them do, but that’s way more likely to be the minority than the majority.
All I’m saying is you can be a Megumi fan, who doesn’t ship him with Yuji or even see him as queer without being homophobic and gross towards shippers. That’s all
Listen I’d be writing my JJK Megumi x OC fic a lot faster if I had no brain fog and actual engagement like comments and I’d be able to write better, and the fandom wasn’t so damn exhausting that I’d get agitated every time I’d have to give the material any thought to write about anything, but I’m struggling right now.
So, yes, I do need actual advice and motivation because I wanna write it so bad and I hate that I can’t write it at all and I need some encouragement because I did vow to finish the first two seasons before the year ended yet I’ve only been publishing a chapter per month and that’s just not gonna work 😭
So if you any tips or anything please let me know it’d be highly appreciated 😊
I just saw a tiktok of Megumi with the caption “the bf to the weirdest girl you know” and it really meant something to me because like YES that IS in fact my boyfriend and he DOES love and cherish me each day 🥹✌🏽
“Megumi should’ve turned evil but Gege a weak writer” omfg if yall want every deuteragonist to be a ripoff Sasuke just say that or go rewatch Naruto but genuinely stfu
I might as well publish my ‘The Perfect Girl’ chapters on here as well given I’m on this app more than Wattpad, it might make it easier to get stuff done 🙏🏽
This take isn’t like a misandrist thing or anything, just an observation; But when it comes to characters who are heavily disliked, I tend to use this rule of thumb where if the majority of people disliking them are men and a majority of their fans are women, then the hate is likely rooted in something unreasonable or genuinely misogynistic.
That being said; I’ve never been wrong thus far.
Me after making an OC to self project on and make a self insert out of to make fall in love with Megumi so I could live out my tsundere x tsundere “nobody understands me except you” friends to lovers slow burn fantasy
I can’t escape Robbie Daymond, because somehow he was in JJK, A Silent Voice and Date Everything (not even just as a VA, but a creator at that).
But the real moment it solidified was when I looked back Sailor Moon, because it’s a childhood show of mine, and realizing that the mf voices TUXEDO MASK.
I cannot beat this mf—
Doesn’t matter how many new ways you find a way to tell it, Megumi hate jokes can’t ever really be creative if they still have the same punchline because I can’t imagine the only thing you can say about a character…is a word
Listen this is a word salad and it’s all just a bunch of stuff I’ve got in my head, but it’s been on my mind but I’ve got a deeper post about this that I may or may not right. But, yes, let me give an uncoordinated, scatterbrained ramble on JJK and how the fandom is a metaphor for capitalism/hj with how the American fandom sees the story in general compared to the Japanese one, mainly in the context to Megumi. But this TikTok does it better, I’m just gonna rant the thoughts that came to my mind from it.
TikTok - Make Your Day
I love the take in this video because he’s essentially right, because I always figured hate Megumi gets here in America compared to how beloved he is in Japan had something to do with cultural values, especially with America’s capitalistic infrastructure essentially breeding toxic hustle culture and the “go big or go home” mentality thing when it comes to work, where the working classes is exploited and practically exploited by those in the upper classes and having to constantly devote themselves to a life of underpaid work just to make ends meet while the wealthy make twice as much money off of their work.
For me, that’s arguably how I’d interpret the sorcerers in JJK, being expected to live a life preparing to die in battle one of these days, for the sake of the Higher Ups exploiting them for the service they provide for them with gifts, or rather, curses they didn’t even ask for, using them as nothing but weapons rather than individuals with morals and feelings and emotions. And oddly enough, that horrific dehumanization the story denounces is so heavily mirrored by its Western fanbase, and because they’d refuse to acknowledge the cultural influences in JJK in terms of themes and character writing, relating to the themes of Buddhism specifically, and instead, judge the writing based on their idea of what they expected it to be and how it didn’t meet certain expectations of theirs to a point they’d not only say it was poorly written, demean and constantly disrespect the author with the audacity of saying they’d write their story better (guarantee you there’s rarely ever been a fan who said this where it was actually the case), sending death threats towards said author while demanding more content from them anyways, and going out their way to talk about the writer’s project and their characters in such reductive ways that it actually harms the story’s reputation in terms of quality is actually an even greater reflection of that.
Ironically enough, the Western JJK fanbase has come to embody the very ideals the story itself is criticizing and condemning. Yet they wouldn’t recognize that enough since they’re criticizing and viewing the story from the perspective of how a traditional (Western) story might go, rather than viewing the story as it is, and acknowledging the cultural influences and the actual story Gege was trying to tell.
I don’t gaf I’m gonna say it; But insinuating that women only like a certain male character for his looks and nothing else is misogynistic, and assuming a male character with a predominantly female fanbase is mainly liked for his looks alone is also misogynistic.
It’s simply just men knowing they can’t imagine a liking a female character if she’s unattractive in some way, so they’d project that same superficiality onto women to feel better about themselves.
And yes; This is about the Megumi haters who say his fans only like him because he’s hot, to deny his actual character depth and act like there’s no other reason to like him. (Mind you; The fandom was once female dominated, so there’s that part that makes zero sense anyways). Every now and then, I find something that proves that Megumi haters eventually loop around to being misogynists.
I’ve written a whole essay on this before in my drafts that I never posted because I didn’t get around to it and by the time I had, the drama was basically forgotten. But, on that note, I’ll just say this;
I don’t see a point in complaining about certain creators, mainly fanfic writers in general anyways, when you can block someone. It’s like making an issue out of something that doesn’t need to be one. Mainly, I get it if there’s genuinely problematic stuff, like the incest, pedophilia or SA/CSA but something as simple as writing an aged up AU of characters who have been minors since 2018, most of which having aged up counterparts and having aged up dancers that exist since they’d be adults in this current time, especially when most of those writers were fans of the characters when it first came out and were likely young themselves, that is such a non-issue to me.
Okay, but why are people genuinely gatekeeping the whole “weird kid” concept now? Like. The whole “real weird kid” thing is kinda stupid to me because there’s no point in arguing over it, because it’s a matter of personal experience.
Like, sure, when I say I’m a weird girl because I grew up liking all the now mainstream horror games, and I loved things like superheroes and anime, and magical girl stuff and liked collecting Lalaloopsy dolls, and I liked all the typical “cringey” stuff while I grew up in a family that typically doesn’t like that stuff and finds it strange so it kind of sets me apart from then when I try to connect. Because for me, to the people I was surrounded by, that mainstream stuff was, and still is considered weird. I’m a Black girl with interests that aren’t seen as Black in my family so of course I’d see myself as a weird girl, because that’s what I was.
It’s not because it’s so underground or something, it’s simply the feeling of being out of place or unconventional in your surrounding environment, so growing up being the “weird kid” is a different thing for some people.
There’s no need to gatekeep it, especially if you ere bullied for being that’s weird kid, bullying people for not being “weird enough” or something is really hypocritical. Thats all.
How it feels being Black alternative girl who can’t dress like it because her family, while progressive, still has some conservative values and don’t understand alt subcultures that much ✌🏽
It’s always Megumi x Bimbo! Reader but never Megumi x Goth/Alt! Reader 😔
A little OC x Canon yap but I did think it was funny making Keiko this more composed and calm person compared to making her more hotheaded and happy go lucky while pairing her with Megumi because (I was self projecting and like making characters that act like me) I know it’s common to pair him in those dynamics, so I thought it’d be interesting to see him with someone who’s just calm and coolheaded and dignified (because rinderes and kuuderes are underrated).
I’m sorry but Megumi’s grumpy self with a girl who’s just constantly coolheaded is hilarious because he’s so reactive to how people are idiotic and annoying and she’s just… not reacting because she feels things so deeply it’s basically painful so she’s just organizing her emotions to avoid getting overstimulated and overwhelmed.
And then also the added layer of them both being to good for being vulnerable and open so there’s that added layer of comedy of them two smartest people in the group being idiots when it comes to how in life they are with each other, but they’re just in denial about how in love they are.
And it’s simply because they’ve both hit self hating issues. Because one hand, he’s like “she’s too good for me, since she’s so noble and honorable, even if this world has been unkind to her, I don’t deserve her. I’m unworthy.” And on the other hand, she’s like “He accepts me as is, regardless of how sensitive or insensitive I come across as. But if I let him come close, I’m doomed to curse him too. He doesn’t deserve that.”
And, yet, they went through such similar pain (losing a sister, having a clan name they despise, being abandoned/disowned by their family) that they so deeply understand each other and open up in way nobody else could understand. They’ve omen each other so long that they’re basically attached to each other, being each other’s first friends and the only one by each other’s side.
So they’re basically in a never-ending cycle of yearning for each other but depriving them self of it solely because they’re both so hung up on their past trauma that they’ll deny themselves simple pleasure of loving each other freely because they can’t afford the endure the pain that comes with it.
(Maybe I should post more Keiko lore on here what yall think 🤔)
