IS PERFECTION, I SOBBED MULTIPLE TIMES BUT I ALSO LAUGHED UNTIL I CAN’T BREATHE, WHAT A BUCKWILD FIRST EPISODE
1. Loved the realistic friendship between 39/40-year-olds who have been best friends since medical school.
2. I think they’re gonna focus on 1 or 2 characters per ep and I love that, bc they balance it so well, while giving enough time to show what the others are up to as well. How it casually introduces their lives is great; Ik-jun has a son, Song-hwa and Joon-wan is dating people, and Joon-wan has a problematic partner that he eventually broke up with, and when their dayoffs/shift is over doesn’t go as planned.
3. As an HSP (highly sensitive person), I love Jung-won and his sensitivity, emotions and empathy. His repetitive drunk existential crises is so fucking funny bc he’s always back on his bs; saying he wants to quit being a doctor when in reality he loves it and that’s why he keeps sticking w/ it, he just needs the occasional comfort and reassurance from his oldest brother. And while that’s comedic, this show still handled well and perfectly the depth of what he’s going through and how difficult it is, and honestly I was wailing during his talk w/ the patient’s mother, through the confessional scene, and through his first/current drunk rant
- Also it was interesting when he took hold of the VIP ward. He finds the concept of the ward ridiculous but now I’m guessing he’s gonna manage it to make sure the earned money goes to a charity fund, which he is already using to help patients and their families.
4. When D-rth V-der turns around and it turns out to be Ik-jun. I fucking wheezed I almost entered the astral plane. I was wondering when he was gonna come up and That is how he’s introduced. And then he had to operate on a whim and him in his scrubs w/ the damn helmet, I swear I was losing it.
5. The band. OH MY GOD. They can all play and it’s so cute how they’re still the same old dumbasses from college. I would love an OST sung by all of them bc iirc they’re all, if not most, great singers, w/ experience in musical theater/shows.
6. This show really handles the chaotic energy of everyday life. When Song-hwa goes to work, walking through the hallways and the camera pans out into a shot of the hospital floors filled w/ people. Their dialogue in the storage room when they first met. When Jung-won scolds his brother for always asking for wine money and on the other half of the frame, Song-hwa is screaming at Joon-wan for taking her shoe lmao.
7. Also love that it’s 1 ep per week. At first I was sad but when I found out that it’s for improving the environment around drama production, quality and welfare of the workers, I appreciate it so much. And that it’s open-ended to encourage an opportunity for more seasons. I love ambiguous endings in itself too, it has a casual charm that portrays well a slice-of-life story. I’m so excited for the rest of this show!!!
