Tony Awards Poll! Which 2015 Acceptance Speech Was Your Favorite?
I'm new to the whole theatre world so I'm going to ask an embarrassing (?) question: what is off-book? I see it a lot on this blog.
Off book means you don't need the book (script). Basically you've memorized your lines and blocking
but NOW HE’S PLAYING PIPPIN
I just got the part of Pugsley in the Addams Family Musical, and that includes a lot of screaming onstage, and I was wondering how to scream at an appropriate volume while also not straining my voice????
OH MY GOD I CANT BELIEVE YOU ASKED THIS OMG. Ok so I had to do the exact same thing. Literally 7 or 8 screams a night for a week. So 2 of them were offstage, so I just hit a rally high note and made it kinda shaky (but you probably won't be able to do that with that part. Honestly, I just screamed. What's important is drinking a lot of water before and after it. Also I had so many cups of tea that week with honey and lemon. My voice was a little tired each night but overall it was fine. I had singing auditions like 2 weeks after and I had no problems!
Any advice ya can give on how to calm nevers before an audition?
Prepare as much as you can. Know that you can only prepare so much and it's as good as it's gonna get, try to relax. I always listen to music before (not your song) and just try not to focus on it too much!
kill the idea that all sopranos have to be the ingenues and altos have to be everything else. i want more alto princesses who are girly as hell and badass villains who can slay the high notes while killing a man
musical theatre auditions more like
no rock musicals
no juke box musicals
no sondheim, rodgers and hammerstein, cole porter, schwartz
no jason robert brown
nothing new on broadway
nothing depressing
no belting to show off
sing something that’s the gender of the character ur auditioning for
sing something in ur age range
sing something that compliments the character ur auditioning for
u literally can’t sing anything just give up become a scientist instead
I am still the 15-year kid old sitting at home watching the Tony Awards saying, ‘I can do that.’ I’m still that person.
Sutton Foster (via kelliodarling)
the first time blocking a sexual scene
seeing the set for the first time
when the blocking is terrible but you can't do anything about it
when someone asks how tech is going
when unforeseen problems occur during tech
when your director loves your costume but it’s actually terrible
when you have to wear and dance in high heels for the first time in a show
