Author’s Note: Hey, @serpyra ! I’m your Ava’s Demon Secret Santa! I’m so sorry for the wait, I had trouble writing this gift and I know I should’ve asked for help but I made the stupid decision of not doing that.
Anyway, I went with a Fantasy AU here. Odin’s a prince (of course) and magic is used here too. I tried to leave somethings vague since I didn’t think too much about the “Fantasy” part.
But I hope you enjoy this short fic!
Each step is like a torture for him.
Each step brings him a blast of pain, creeping onto Odin from his feet til his head, making him feel disoriented and heavy. But he grits his teeth, narrows his violet eyes and takes another step further towards the huge wooden doors. He is determined to leave! He won’t stop! Surprisingly, even the grim shadow near him seems to agree with the decision.
Pedri stares at him with a strange expression on his face, watching Odin take each painful step with his head high. Something about Ava, Pedri remembers when that green-haired girl came to Odin with a panicked, shocked expression on her face and yelling something about Wrathia’s vessel being judged, something about execution. It hadn’t come to Pedri’s head that the end of Ava would also mean the end of Wrathia and neither did it come to Odin’s head, but he would not let that happen. But there was something wrong because Olai had laughed when he saw Odin run to the doors as if he knew something that the boy didn’t. And when the pain came? It was a surprise to both Odin and his unwanted passenger.
Odin was using all of his strength to not stop, to keep going, keep trying. Ava’s life could (it probably does) depend on him! He had to be strong for her!
Odin fell on his knees, panting and coughing, feeling the pain still creeping over him. He barely noticed the man coming up behind, not until he felt the crafted silver of Olai’s blade on his neck. He was pulled up on his feet and turned around by Olai, who stared at him with a satisfied grin.
“You’re not going anywhere. Not until the end of the day.” Olai growled at him,
“That girl is going to be executed for her witchcraft and there’s nothing you can do about it, you hear me?”
Odin stares back at him with a glare that could kill. Of course, it had to be Olai, of f*cking course.
“W-why?” is the only thing Odin says.
Olai shakes his head, the knife still pressed near Odin’s throat. “Why not? Hear me, Odin, as long as I live you’re not getting a happy ending. Okay. I refuse to be the only one here tha-”
“ARE YOU ACTUALLY OUT OF YOUR GOD FORSAKEN MIND?!?!” Odin screamed, fury lacing each word as he spoke with no stutter.
Just as Olai opened his mouth to reply, Odin cut him off, stuttering. “ARE YOU SERIOUS NOW, OLAI!!! OF ALL MOMENTS YOU HAD TO THREATEN ME, TO HURT ME, YOU’RE CHOOSING THIS?!?”
Olai took a step back, his hand lowering for a moment as his face twisted in a frown. The boy never had spoken back to him.
“Y-you’re choosing to hurt A-Ava just to hurt me? Really? T-that’s your p-plan?” Odin said,
Olai’s eyes widened when he heard the subtle change in Odin’s words. There was something there, hiding in his voice, in his words.
Odin feels the heavy hands of the looming figure behind him settle on his shoulders and he feels a wave of power over him, washing and drowning any fear or doubt he had. It made him feel as if nothing was holding him back and down, making he feels strong and……proud. The faint yet sharp presence using Odin to speak wasn’t seen by Olai but god, did he notice the sudden change in his brother’s voice.
“You’re so pathetic it’s almost stupid. Why can’t you just live your dumb life and leave me alone? You’re embarrassing yourself.”
The words were painful and sharp and didn’t have a single stutter on them, they were not what Olai was expecting to hear from Odin.
And just as suddenly as it came, the wave left Odin’s body. His breath became hurried again and he realized, with horror, what he had just stated.
“Olai, I-I didn’t mean to-”
Too late for apologies. Olai launched himself at Odin, face full of rage and perhaps pain. Quickly stepping aside, Odin caught hold of his knife and watched as Olai turned around and furiously came at him again. The knife shot up and was carved into Olai’s shoulder, making him stop abruptly and clutch at wound.
Odin felt more light and without wating time, rushed to the doors and ripped them open, letting the snow come inside uninvited.
He threw a look over his shoulder, watching his brother still clutch the wound now starting to soak his clothes with blood.
And with a deep breath, Odin turned towards the snow and started to run.
Olai, however, chuckled. He may have escaped but could Odin reach the town with all that snow? Could he even run that fast til tomorrow, when the red-haired girl would die?
