i find it uniquely incredible that recently, somehow, the only posts i ever see from following the tag "slay the princess" are about the voices, and sometimes even shipping the voices, and seemingly focusing almost exclusively on them.

like i never really got it before until i saw this trend, and maybe tumblr is just giving me consistently dogshit posts in term of variety but it's incredible how a game who's titular character is a princess. who is the only character you can physically see in the game for almost 99% of the time. is somehow being made exclusively about male characters. who are also all one guy technically but talking in different voices.

like i just never fucking interact with people on this site besides via art or other mostly irrelevant comments so i didnt get it but wow yeah okay yall were right about the female character erasure in fandom spaces thing holy shit. like i thought it was an exaggeration but there are three fucking characters total in stp and i havent seen the one woman actually show up when tumblr suggests me a post with the tag in like a month. im sure if i go look id probably find her right now easily but it's insane how consistently the new stuff i was getting was only about the male voices. god.

hey so what if instead of shaming people[in the MAIN TAG btw] for making content they enjoy, we actually made/interacted with things we want to see? I know, crazy concept.

but seriously. fandom is a community of people expressing their own passions for a piece of media. if you're frustrated by what you see, you are in the wrong corner. what exactly is this post trying to achieve?? do you really think a single person who enjoys making voice-focused fanworks would see this and go "yeah. I'll stop doing that now and start drawing the princess." NO?? no one's doing that!! and if it's just meant as a vent, then why put it in the main tag??? clearly, you want to achieve something here — to be heard by a group of people. so then why, instead of trying to reach out to the community you want to see, would you address the people you don't like and call them out????? literally blows my mind

and also it's 100% understandable why the voices get the most interactions from the more uh,, "fandomy" side of fans. because they are just. so much more engaging for that specific type of content. they have actual interactions between one another[gives insight into their characters, allows for fun dynamics], they don't have designs of their own[artist bait, makes them more personal. if you make designs for them, they do become partially YOUR creation, and people love to share their creations], and the leave together ending implies they're left behind to exist on their own, unlike the princess vessels[fans can interpret their life after the game/can flesh them out into full characters, which personalizes them further].

im not saying there is no misogyny in this fandom. neither am I saying there isn't a problem at large with female character erasure. but, news flash, the problem isn't in fandom itself. it's a consequence of a bigger issue — a DROUGHT of engaging fem characters and years of fandom culture forming around the fact. but the stp fandom does not favor voices because of misogyny. it favors voices because they're easier to connect to, and easier to form a community around.

and if you want to fix that? create princess content. connect with people who are interested in the princess content. YOU are the fandom.
