Sometimes live feeding is the only option for a finicky snake, if you've exhausted all other options. And it doesn't have to be permanent.

Naw man if your animal abuses other animals then don’t have that animal because everything the animal does is your responsibility, thus the fact that that live rat you fed to your snake was absolutely terrified and in horrible pain is also your fault and responsibility. 

Rats are smarter than cats, and debatably just as smart as dogs— if not smarter. Would you feed a live kitten or puppy to your finicky snake?

While most snakes can be converted to frozen, some snakes simply will not eat anything over than live no matter what you do and will starve themselves to death otherwise. Or does the suffering of the snake count for nothing? 

Kittens and puppies aren’t typical prey for snakes. Rats are. If one of my snakes needed to be fed live it would be because I’m going to put the welfare of my pet over some random rodent. When you take an animal into your care it’s your duty to give it what it needs and in that circumstance it would be cruel not to feed live (in fact, depending on how you interpret the law in this country you could be prosecuted for not feeding live if that’s all the snake will eat.)

If you learned not to assume then you could’ve asked where you didn’t know. I’d of told you that I’d advise killing the snake in a quick, humane manner, to avoid it causing worse harm to multiple animals rather than just itself. It’s a simple case of choosing the lesser evil, one snake dead painlessly or a bunch of rats killed painfully

I adore my snakes so why should I kill a beloved pet just because of what it eats? That’s a disgusting mentality to have. Just because it’s a reptile doesn’t mean it’s life is worth any less. My dog has killed rats so I guess I should kill her, too?

No. Never kill a predator for being a predator. The notion that a snake is a cruel being that doesn’t deserve to live is incredibly toxic. It extends to non snakes too. Did you know some people kill crows and ravens because they dind the extremely cruel ways they kill distasteful?

That attitude is deadly, counter productive and ultimately doesn’t even result in fewer dead rats. Never kill a snake for committing thr crime of being a snake. Never buy into the notion that it is evil for an animal to have to eat other animals to survive. So many native predators have been poached and poaches heavily for people letting their feelings get in the way of natural design.

If I have to kill a rat for my snake, or if he has to kill it himself, one way or another I am not going to kill him to spare the feelings of the rats. Or the feelings of the internet.

I don't think that snakes are cruel beings, I think that the way they kill is cruel because nature is cruel, but I don't blame them for it. However, when you have an animal as a pet it's your responsibility. And any abuse that it causes is also your responsibility. 

As a human you're obligated to make a decision that leads to the least harm towards other animals. So you can choose, one humanely killed snake or multiple inhumanely killed rats. It was a responsibility you took when you decided to own one, and not one I'm going to take because of that, despite the fact that I would love to own a snake as well.
