"Yeah." She said knowing she probably said too much but she was glad they went with the werewolves because she didn’t have to die when she married one. "No I don’t think so. I think he picked the one which would cause a stronger bond and I told him there was no way in hell I was turning into a vampire." She laughed softly. "I’m not here to take anything from your family as I believe you’re not going to take anything from mine. We are forming an alliance. My father picked you, because I made him. In a sense yeah it was the lesser of two evils but I don’t see you as an evil, I see you as the man who is going to help protect me and my clan as I am going to do for you and hopefully we will have healthy children who can take over for us after we pass from old age and be great rulers as I expect we both will be." Her tone gental and logical as she brushed her hand on his cheek.
" We're warmer too. " There wasn't really any reason to offer that information, it was just sort of there, his way of justifying why werewolves were better than vampires. " Truth is, I don't think anyone really knows what happens when a vampire attempts to turn a banshee. Essentially, you'd die, which could put an end to your powers, or completely amplify them. " Which meant her father had been either incredibly smart to save his daughter and her gift, or incredibly foolish for not taking the chance. " On the other side of things, it's customary to offer the bite after a marriage, if the marriage is between wolf and nonwolf, but banshees are immune, so that saves you the trouble of having to turn it down and offending your new family. " What she said next surprised him, after everything she had been through, after she had been attacked by his uncle, essentially knocked him out, somehow dragged him a few miles to his family's burned down house and used him to revive Peter, she didn't see wolves as evil. He supposed McCall was partially to thank for that. The true alpha would have been the ultimate end game, but he was currently tied up in trying to fit an alliance with the Kitsunes. Derek rolled on his side to face her as she reached out to brush his cheek, the touched made him stiffen slightly. " I wasn't a very good alpha during my short reign last time. "
Lydia knew she was asking a lot but she was trying to help him out because being detached could cause trouble. “She was waiting to find the perfect one, she wanted to set me up with you originally but the rest of them thought a vampire alliance might be stronger so there was some debate about it but she passed before she got to have final word so Daddy said that the werewolves would protect us as we would them because after all the darkness that has fallen over both of our groups, the banshee’s need your strength and the wolves need our knowledge so it came to an agreement we would be wed.” She said looking at him as he laid next to her, she rested on her side.
" Vampires? " He tried to hide the surprise, and a little of the disgust. Their general dislike for each other wasn't exactly secretive knowledge. Their protection would have been good for banshees, but bad, very bad. In order for Lydia to be of any use to them, she would have to be changed, not to mention a tie with vampires ended bloodlines. They couldn't procreate and produce new generations, which is why they reverted to changing humans. The whole thing was messy and highly disagreed upon by wolves. " Your father picked the lesser of two evils. " It was also a power play, and a smart one at that, females were prominent in the Hale bloodline, so they were more likely to be banshees.
“And actually remembering my name is such a bad thing, because——-?”
" Because, Little Kate, it means I hate you slightly less than I intended. "
She wasn’t sure what to do in this situation. She knew how important it was to their families. “I didn’t realize that either.. but I trust you to make the right decision with the whole situation and hopefully trust me to do the same.” She said softly, She was the next in line to lead her family as her grandmother had been training her on everything she needs to know and how to guide the clan, Her father stepping in after Her grandma passed, but would soon pass the title to her. “I have the feeling you’re going to be an amazing alpha but you have to rely on the right people..”
What she was asking of him defied every instinct, every fiber in his body. He didn't trust anyone, and that is what would either make or break him as an alpha. His mother had trusted people, and she'd been the best leader the pack had ever known, and ultimately, it lead to her death, and here he was, being expected to place his trust in the mistress of death. The thought was not meant unkindly, but it was something that almost earned a laugh. But at the same time, this was Lydia, and she was wickedly smart, therefore a wise companion for the times to come. He couldn't give her the promise of his complete trust, not yet, but he could attempt it. Slowly, he edged toward the bed, sinking on the edge before settling on his back beside her. " Why didn't your grandmother set a match before she died? "
Cora tried not to show any of the emotions that were running through her now. Anger was among them, for Derek pushing her away and forcing her to do something. She wanted more than anything to stay with her brother, to get to know him a second time, to spend time together and to have someone there that understands the pain that she felt.
"Or I can leave..
I’ve made my decisions for years now, Der. You can’t and won’t
make this one for me.”
" Of course i can't make a decision for you, but the fact is, you are underage. So, you can either allow me to be your responsible party, and hope I will make the best decision for you, or you can be at the mercy of Peter. " Those were the conditions if she wanted to stay. He didn't want to treat her like a child, but he wasn't exactly above it to get his way on this one. To keep her alive, there needed to be rules, and if she decided to choose Peter, he'd have to find a way to shut that down as well. his brain was already working on that argument.
"Disappointing you is like choking the little mermaid."
The brunette returned with the lift of her shoulders into a shrug. They weren’t friends, never really had been, and more often than not she was out trying to hunt him down for things he had done in the past; for things that she now forced from her mind. She had decided that there were worse monsters out there than Derek Hale. Even if she wouldn’t admit it.
" Well according to Disney, she could breathe on land and in water, so I find your point irrelevant.. " Not that he was admitting to seeing the movie or to know anything about it. Look, the guy had sisters, what he was out ruled on when he was little was hardly his fault. Which in a way, he might have just said it was impossible for her to disappointment and he suddenly wasn't sure he was winning this argument anymore. These interactions were always easier when she was trying to stab him with something.
“Well excuse yourself immediately! She’s gorgeous!” He trailed his hand over the bike’s exterior, the smoothness delighting him. “What’s got your pants in a twist then? I didn’t steal her, if that’s what is worrying you. Bought her all my own.” With his father’s money, of course. “Plus, there’s a thing at the back, for transporting things. Pretty handy, aye?”
" Seriously, do you need a minute alone with it? " Honestly, Derek would have been more impressed if he'd stolen the damn thing, but he was trying not to offend Arthur, which meant keeping that thought, among others, to himself. Like that the bike they were looking at was not all that great, but served exactly the purpose it needed to, a prop. " What sort of show did you need this for, anyways? "
“Do what?”
" Make me actually remember your name. "
"I’m not good at the whole relationship aspect of it but there is one thing I am good at.” she said softly. “I’m just saying we should at least give it a shot.”
That was certainly a comment he could have done without. He knew, in a weird way, she was trying to comfort him, but these sort of attachments, they were terrifying in a sense he couldn't really find words to describe. " There's just so much riding on this, I didn't realize a banshee alliance was going to be so important to the pack. " It might be a bit of an embarrassing thing to admit for the future alpha, but he was just talking to talk now.

"That’s because you are warm and fuzzy.”
A slanted smile fixed across her face as she looked at him; his caramel macchiato skin, dark stubble lining his features. it was unexpected, but there were times when he made her feel the same.
He had meant it in a somewhat snide way, finding amusement in riling her up. fighting with her was much easier than actually taking the time to like her. He had a presupposition that she was like Kate, so much so there was no reason to like her, but every time she opened her mouth, she chipped away at it, proving him wrong, so yeah, fighting with her, but he could find no way to really argue being warm or fuzzy in the most literal sense of the words. " You've made this increasingly less fun, Argent. I am severely disappointed. "
Cora looked at Derek, her eyebrows furrowing in the process. What the hell just came out of his mouth? She thought her older brother had been happy when she showed up after all the years apart. Apparently, she was wrong.
"I-.. Then maybe I should just leave again."
The last words came out harsher than intended.
Yes. that is exactly what he wanted, but it didn't stop him from feeling like a complete ass about it. Suddenly, he wanted to just wrap her in his arms and protect her like the delicate being she wasn't. Truth was, he didn't really know her anymore, what she was capable of, any of it. She'd been gone so long, and now she was being thrust back into his life as another piece to lose. There was a frustrated sigh. " Or you can go back to school. "
The more you love me, the more I will ruin you.
”Look, sweetheart. —I don’t care how you think I should describe you. I’m going to describe you the way I want to. Besides, I find it better to be offensive than to be defensive. Which fits better to my person.”
Sweetheart? Now that was highly offensive coming from someone who was raised by a geriatric carrying a broadsword; which was somewhat impressive that the thing could be lifted. Which also raised curiosity as to why they were separated. Hold on. Something's wrong here. " Don't do that. "
"We both know we don’t have a choice in this. I knew my father was to pick who I got married to since birth. So we may as well get used to this."
" Well, it's still new to me. " At least he knew her though, which should bring some comfort, but at the same time, he knew her. " I'm not good at this. "
“It was either that of defensive.”
" Do I seriously need to explain why defensive is better and more fitting to my person? "
