Over the last 2 years I have felt completely disconnected from my art practice and everything else that is part of it which includes sharing my process and the personal projects that I have initiated. 🌸 Many of these personal projects remain unfinished and unattended with no certainty of their future and the art process felt vague and unauthentic so I didn’t feel inspired to share it. I shared the parts that I still felt connected to and the rest I kept to myself. 🌸 I spent time working on knowing myself better and who I am as an individual. What are my values and beliefs? What do I want to express about myself through my art. You see my art is an extension and expression of my self. If I am not aligned with my self I am not able to make art that I feel is authentic to me. 🌸 Although it took awhile I feel happy that I have come to a place where I feel courageous to share more of my inner world with you. I feel courageous to allow myself to be seen. I feel brave to face my fears and slowly even share and talk about them. 🌸 Making the monthly calendars is a personal project that allows me to create just for the sake of creating. It allows me to infuse parts of me into my art process. As someone who loves structure but also hates it which is now the paradox of my my daily life I wanted to create something that appeals to both those sides of me. 🌸 It allows me the flexibility to fill the calendar out as I like and have a play with scribbles and notes and at the same time it is great to have visual reminders on it for very specific things that need to be done on specific days and times aka tasks that need structure. 🌸 So if this is something that appeals to you too or you would like to give it a try you can get the printable calendar from the link in my bio to my shop @theblckpen You can use it for the rest of March or you could wait till April for the next one. 💗 https://www.instagram.com/p/Ca3NdXMPEu1/?utm_medium=tumblr

🌸 Shop Update 🌸 The March printable calendar is live on the shop now. Head to the link in my bio to get yours. ✨ This time around the theme is Australian flora. I made these illustrations last year. I wanted to make a pattern out of them which aligned with my personal style. I love cute and quirky things and I wanted to work out a way to do that with my botanical illustrations. I then tired dissecting each illustration and taking out its part. Flower, leaves, buds and petals. I was kinda reminded of the time when I used to study Botany in university. A commission I worked on recently. 🌺 Hibiscus (Jaswand), Marigold (Jhendu) and Frangipani (Chafa) are flowers that are commonly used in most homes in India as decorations or as offerings to god during prayers. 🌺 My childhood is filled with memories of these flowers which were used for different festivals to make beautiful garlands out of them. I loved walking in the flower markets taking in all the beautiful colours and fragrances. We would get a Phool Pudi (flowers wrapped in a big leaf and tied with a string to secure it) delivered to us everyday and it was the joy of my day to go pick it up and check which flowers they had sent this time. You’d usually get assorted flowers.
