Amazingly Done.  Lola is a bad ass!

Lola by Melissa Scrivner Love is one of the best review books I have read to date.  There is manipulation, romance, familial bonds, and a deep delving into the power of a Latin Woman.  Latin women are commonly looked at as weak, and meek, but Lola is anything but.  She is a strong female lead who is willing to do anything to get the best for those she loves, blood or not.  I would recommend this book 1000 times.  Couldn't put it down.

That being said in all seriousness this was a review book, and I don’t always like the books I read.  I try to get books I would be interested in, and I was completely unsure about this title.  This is not my normal cup of tea, but it was full of twists and turns, and really surprised me.  I ended up reading it from start to finish in two sittings.  It was really and truly a really good read.

The Net Neutrality issue summarized

You (or your parents) pay approx $40-$100 or higher for internet. 

So that you can all use youtube, google, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, etc. etc. etc. This isn’t limited to social media.  

Net neutrality says, “Okay, since you already paid x amount of money for the month, you don’t have to pay for each asset individually. Enjoy your internet.”  NO net neutrality means that your service provider (comcast, at&t, verizon, whatever it may be) gets to say “ACTUALLY, it lines our pockets so give us an extra $5.99 for Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. Oh, but that doesn’t include Tumblr; that comes with our premium package. That’ll be $5.99 on its own as well. Now about your Google docs and email… 

That’s why it’s important. That’s why I’m spamming Net Neutrality crap. If you’re using the internet, it’s YOUR problem.

Hunters in the dark book review

I have to be honest with this one.  I had difficulty getting involved with this book.  I don’t want to write a crap review where I falsely say this is a phenomenal book.  To be honest I think it boils down to the fact that it’s just not my cup of tea.  It was very well written, very descriptive without being over done, good editing, but as I said I just couldn't connect with the characters or the story. I imagine this author is a great writer and other folks would immensely enjoy this tale.  I’m absolutely not saying don’t buy it.  I’m more saying if this is the type of story you normally like I can completely see that this is a great book. So please don’t pass it by on account of me not enjoying it.  Buy it because I see from an unbiased perspective that this book is most likely a book you should NOT pass by.

Life is definitely on the edge with this book.

“Life on the Edge: The Coming of Age of Quantum Biology” Book by John Joe McFadden

I don't normally spend a lot of time reading non fiction, and this book is definitely not a lay person book.  There are a lot of concepts and theories where some knowledge of either biological sciences or theoretical physics is almost necessary to understand.  That being said, if you have some basic knowledge in these areas this book is an eye opener.  It combines atomic level physics and biology and opens up so many doors that most people wouldn't think about.  This was thought provoking, and intense on an intellectual level, and also the author managed to weave in tails so to speak to make these theories more relevant and understandable.  Beautiful written and a very enjoyable read.

The library at mount Char review

This book had me from page 1.  The characters are very well thought out, with in depth emotional responses to situations that may seem out of the norm for us mere mortals.  I would love to see more by this author as I enjoyed this book immensely.  For me it was reminiscent of Harry potter meets Percy Jackson.  Great read, and thoroughly entertaining.

I am one of those weird multi tasking readers.  I read multiple books at the same time, and as soon as they are completed I will begin adding reviews.  I do have a few I have recently completed and those reviews are also forthcoming.  The reason there has been a delay in case any of you were wondering is I just finished my first of hopefully at least one other college degree and school work was taking up 90% of my time with sleep taking the other 10% ;)

City of blades

I think if I had read the first book this would have been a great read. That being said it was hard to follow, but still a good read. The author here is great at describing human emotion with intense internal dialog. Quite an adventure that I would have enjoyed much more had I started at the beginning.

The Quality of Silence (a review)

In this story, a young girl Ruby and her mother Yasmin travel from the UK to Alaska to meet with Yasmins husband for Christmas.  Rosamund Lupton writes a masterful chiller here, where the two female leads undertake a harrowing journey to find the missing father.  Bold in it’s telling, it gives insight into a world with no sound as Ruby is hearing impaired, and her mother just wants her to fit in a world full of sound.  Running from someone, or something the bond between mother and daughter here is explored also, and I couldn’t help but to fall in love with these two incredibly courageous people.  

This book starts a bit slow for a reader like me who wants some kind of hook from the start, but that being said, the descriptive language Rosamund uses, and her ability to make you feel like you’re right there with her characters is astounding.  It took me a while to get hooked, but once hooked I could not put it down.  Both terrifying a beautiful, this was a great read, and I hope to see more from this author.

Halfway through.

I'm halfway through "the quality of silence" by Rosamund Lupton, and I must say, even though it started slow it's really gotten me hooked now. I'm sure I'll have a thorough review in the next couple of days.

Reasons Why Being A Nature Photographer Is The Best Job In The World.

0.4 and 1.4 by Mike Lancaster

So now that I've finished these two books, I feel a more in depth review is appropriate. I'm going to try not to have spoilers, but honestly without saying something about these two masterfully woven tales..... yea,there may be tiny spoilers. I gobbled these books up in less than 12 total reading hours over 4 days. I gotta say, I want more! These tales are of a type that could easily be added on to and extended and still catch my interest every time. These books (particularly 0.4) will make you question reality in a way that's hard to explain. Think the matrix, or house of leaves as a jumping point for reference. This is YA science fiction/experimental fiction at its best. The tales are convincing, the characters authentic and relatable, and the plot..... the plot was making me question a lot of things about life, and things that go bump in the night. If you want a read that catches you from the prologue to the afterward, both of these books had me from opening the cover, well before the first page. That's hard to find in a book, and this author is one I want more from.

“0.4″ a review

This book by Mike Lancaster will make you question everything.  For fans of Mark Z Danielewski this book is very reminiscent of House of Leaves on some level.  It grips you from the editors note, throwing you into a mind set of “Is this real?”  I hate to post spoilers in a review so I won’t, but I will tell you this.  Five stars all the way through, even though at times this book did get confusing.  That being said a book that makes you question reality, should confuse you at times.  I couldn’t put it down, and I stared at the wall for ten minutes when I was finished while asking myself “what the????”  

YA fiction at it’s best.

Reading list

Currently I am reading “1.4″ by Mike Lancaster as I Just finished “0.4″ both UK titles.  And am also starting a book called “The Quality of Silence” by Rosamund Lupton.  I will be writing a review of 0.4 here soon, and when I finish “The Quality of Silence” I will  post a review as well.  Looking forward to this :)
