Owen Williams: The only, I was just laughing to myself because I don't really know film and that was very clear on the set with you guys that are film students obsessed with film and I don't really know what's going on. I just always remember this argument that you and Jared had that I didn't understand and going home and looking it up and you just got so mad at Jared and you said, "Well, I don't want to get into this, what's diegetic, what's nondiegetic!"

Matt Johnson: I said that?

Peter Kuplowsky: But I mean, that is, I've read the interviews-

MJ: It sounds like I was right!

PK: I've read interviews with you, Matt, where you, it did sound like it was a conversation, speaking of Jared, to involve him more and there's actually a decision to really pull that back, and only in a very few moments acknowledge Jared.

MJ: That was a big decision in the edit, because before, Jared was a much, I don't want to say bigger character, but he talked more and he was in the film more, and watching the movie when we had early first cuts, it made the whole thing seem slightly too perverse. Like, the idea that this guy was here but-

PK: He's aware of everything and he could do something about it but he's choosing not to. 

MJ: Bingo, and it was the more we pulled him out, the more it, again, this was all just by feel but I'm really happy we did because now I think there is a read of the movie, although you have to jump through some hoops in your head to make it seem like maybe there isn't even a Jared, but at least that is still slightly possible. And I don't subscribe to that at all, but I think it puts the audience in a more uncomfortable and better position to watch the movie if they aren't always hearing Jared break their perspective with his voice. 

PK: Well I feel like at a certain point they almost identify with Jared. And that's sort of the effect that you're creating. I mean the one moment that you do decide to leave in is the popcorn moment. Was that again just your feeling or was that you felt like I can't lose this, this is an important offering where you're reaching to the camera?

MJ: Well... we were watching the Bourne Identity... . and it might have been, that was the only shot we had. Like it might have been less a choice and more just like that's what we got!

This has been a fucking WILD day in Toronto. For anyone who doesn't know, one of Jay McCarrol's band members was shot and McCarrol himself is the main suspect (and no one knows where he is), an unidentified man climbed to the top of the CN tower and then jumped off (not a suicide attempt, he actually had a parachute!), and a man was electrocuted on the same street where the police were chasing McCarrol down (they didn't catch him), all today.

Okay guys I know we're all going kind of crazy right now responding to this and I'm feeling a lot of emotions about it myself but I do think maybe we could tone it down with all the jokes and memes? I know he probably won't see them anyways but I just feel like we should respect Jay and his privacy and not turn this into a total circus, it's gotta be really awful for him as it is. Speaking for myself I know Jay got me through some really tough times and now it's our turn to support him and not turn his pain into a joke.

Hey everyone,

So, I think I'm going to be stepping back and taking a break from this account for a bit. I really don't know what to do or how to feel right now. I know a lot of you are probably in the same boat, and I just want to say how much I love this fandom and how much joy it's brought me being able to connect with people on here over the years and see how much creativity and passion everyone has in this space. Even though I'm definitely feeling a lot of negative things right now (confusion, betrayal, anger) the one thing I'm trying to bear in mind is that while Jay McCarrol is someone who I don't know, have never known, will never know, there are people on here who I do know because of our shared love of music and it's those people and that love that really matters.

I'm going to take some time to clear my head while we see what happens with this whole situation, but I do want to come back to this account eventually and maybe do something different with it. If anyone has recommendations or requests for other artists that they'd want to see photos/gifs/updates of, let me know!
