26 | she/ela | 🇧🇷 | one day trixie mattel said "i love myself but i don't like the way that i'm" and i think that's beautiful. radfem, terfs, transphobic, racist and homophobic people are not welcomed in this blog!
hi, you can call me luca! im 26 years old and, although im not new to tumblr, im new to langblr. portuguese is my native language and i can speak english. i was learning 4 different languages: french, italian, japanese and mandarin, all of these at same time, but it was getting too difficult for me, so i decided that i want to focus just on french and mandarin for a while. im still interested in italian and japanese tho, i just want to put them on hold.
i made this tumblr bc i saw it has a language learning community and i didn't know that. i want to connect with native people and people that are on langblr too!
im not gonna use this solely for langblr, I want to put other things i like as well, such as movies, tv shows, books, novels, anime, manga, photography, music, art, drag race and many other things.
You may come to a point in your language learning journey where you struggle to find motivation to study or find it difficult to dedicate enough time to using your target language. while this is not entirely avoidable, there are a few things you can do to help combat boredom and get you back on track to achieve your goals…
Take a little break. don’t force yourself to do something thats making you upset or bored. Allow your interest in the language to slowly redevelop, remember language learning should be something you enjoy, not a horrible chore.
Write down a list of all the reasons you’re learning the language and why you want to be able use it to look at when you’re feeling down.
Listen to music watch tv and talk to people in the language instead of just learning it out of a book so that you’re constantly encouraged to use what you’ve learnt and pick up on new things naturally.
Changing your computer/phone language also helps you surround yourself with the language to learn new vocab and reminds you that you can already use it even if you’re not “fluent” yet.
Revise by going through flashcards, using duolingo, listening to a song or reading a book whenever you get a spare minute waiting in line or on a train instead of checking social media or playing a game on your phone to make the most of this otherwise wasted time (unless of course you’re looking at memes in your target language).
Make language learning the last thing you do before you go to bed (reading a book or listening to some calming music works the best, try to stay away from your phone/computer screen!) - sleep is really important and if you don’t get enough it is hard to remember new information and concentrate.
If you have a research project, find the information you need in your target language and translate as you go along (also a great way to avoid being accused of plagiarism).
Accept criticism and corrections optimistically - someone who offers you advice is trying to help you, not insult you or make you feel bad because you accidentally got something wrong.
Don’t be afraid to celebrate your achievements! even if it’s just correctly remembering the gender of a word or getting a sentence right or pronouncing something correctly or something, be positive about it!
Have fun! Change your routine up to keep things fresh and interesting, and remember to read over your list!
