These days, lots of public libraries have a "library of things" collection where you can check out kitchen appliances or yard tools or toys, and, as a children's library assistant, the most popular library of things item that I handle regularly is a plastic scepter thingy called like "unicorn princess magic wand". And whenever I check it out I make a big show of looking at the little kid and being like "do you solemnly swear to use your unicorn princess magic powers only for good and never for evil?"

And pretty much without fail, the little kid will get the world's most mischievous grin and go "I'm gonna use it for EVIL!!!"

Happy "There Will Come Soft Rains" day to all who celebrate

I'm unexpectedly emotional at this because we made it. Ray Bradbury thought 2026 was a realistic time to set a post-apocalyptic story. He lived in a time where nuclear war was a threat everyone knew could happen. He thought 76 years into the future we could all be dead.

76 years later, we have new threats to our world a writer in the 50s wouldn't have even considered. And sure, our world has a lot of problems, and a lot of threats facing us. And now we're writing dystopias set in the 2100s and 2200s where everything's gone wrong and humanity is extinct or close to it.

But 76 years after Ray Bradbury wrote a story that imagined we'd all be dead by now, we're still here. And I think that's something special.

a member of the draagoshka elite has booked either the Black Parade or the MEV personally for a “full-experience” performance, in which they get to dispose of MEV themselves (these cases often result in a “total-ing” or complete write-off of this current iteration of MEV)

miscellaneous or research reasons—often cited by MOAT staff— elaboration is not required on paper, but approval from a supervisory authority is required for these situations

when the previous body is no longer capable (either due to prolonged decomposition or other damage— see above) of the day-to-day activities required of MEV (note that the kill and resurrect rules apply to all clones in perpetuity)
