Matthew smiled softly as she spoke. “I try,” he said, grinning as she giggled and kissing her back. “To be fair, I’m basically stressed out by everything, so really, it’s just a baseline and it doesn’t really bother me anymore.” He grinned again to show that he was joking. Mostly. He really was stressed out by a lot but he was learning to compartmentalize that and evaluate his response to learn if it was really worth being stressed out about. Nine times out of ten it wasn’t, but he still couldn’t help it. 

“I know,” he said, nodding. He kissed her softly on the mouth. “I know,” he said again. “I trust you. I know there are some aspects of your career that can be kind of weird and unusual, including all the public scrutiny, but I want you to do what makes you happy and what’s right for for you. As long as you feel like that’s acting, I’m always gonna support you.”

Despite knowing it was mostly a joke Cassie knew him enough to know there was truth to that and couldn’t stop the flicker of concern in her face at his words as she frowned slightly. “Not funny.” She chided softly as she cupped his face. “Your stress level does genuinely scare me. I feel like one of these days you’re gonna have a brain aneurysm and I kinda like having you around so if that could not happen that would be great.” Cassie told him and pressed a quick kiss to his lips. 

Calista listened to him as he spoke and she couldn’t help but feel her heart flutter a bit and if she wasn’t already completely in love with him that would very nearly done the trick. As far as ways to get heart went unconditional support was something she'd never really had from anyone really an knowing Matthew did actually trust her enough to provide it for her was the best thing he could have done for her, not that she didn't know she had it already or needed to hear the words, the confirmation was just rather nice and she smiled softly. “I meant that in more of a if you ever wanted to bail on and event or not go I would never be upset, you can always say no, kinda way but that was nice too.” She told him before kissing his lips. “I really, really love you, ya know.”

just because I have been gone on vacation for longer than i intended we’re just gonna say for the last three-weeks-ish Cassie has been shooting a movie in Atlanta. Kay? Kay.

Matthew blinked at her as she spoke. The name was vaguely familiar, and he guessed that it was some TV show, but he couldn’t put his finger on what it was called. “You can eat from whatever menu you want, since when have you let anything stop you from what you want to do?” he asked with a light chuckle. He smiled as she spoke. “I probably still care too much,” he said, with a little smile and a shake of his head. “I don’t know if I’ll ever stop caring, I think it’s just wired into my brain.”

“Oh,” Matthew hummed, with a little shrug. That was fine. Still nerve-wracking, of course, but he had been picturing talking to the press, god forbid. He snorted softly. “I’d rather not be Pete Davidson, so that’s good,” he said. 

Cassie could see the blank-ness beneath his eyes at her words and was sure he only had a vague idea of what that reference even was, but she didn’t mind and couldn’t help but be amused by it. “For someone who gets my references less than 3% of the time your very supportive and it’s very cute.” She told him after a small fit of giggles and pressed a kiss to his lips. “You definitely care. Which, ya know, there’s nothin’ wrong with that cause you can’t help it. I just worry that sometimes it stresses you out.” 

“I would never let it get to that level of ridiculous I promise.” She told him sincerely. If there was one thing that bugged Cassie about her career it was the press involvement when she was in a relationship. It wasn’t as horrible as it probably could have been but it did bug her so she was sure at some point it was going to bug Matthew and thinking about it affecting him in any way stressed her out, but this was at least an easy way to ease into it. “ I want to share every aspect of my life with you, but never at the cost of your discomfort. Whether or not you’re comfortable is a priority to me and I just need you to know deep down in your soul that.”

In all honesty, Elijah wasn’t sure why he was doing this. It was a random thought that had stricken him and now here he was. On a street corner with his tortoise –well a tortoise, it wasn’t exactly his, but that was a different story altogether– strapped into a painting contraption of his own design on top of a canvas and a sign across Elijah’s chest that read in big Dodger Blue Letters ‘LET A TURTLE DRAW YOUR AURA TOTALLY FREE OF CHARGE!!!’ and in smaller letters beneath it in parenthesis ’(donations and tips are welcome though, just sayin’). He didn’t need the money, hell didn’t even think people would give him any but so far Cylde, the tortoise, was on his fifth painting and Eli had made a few people happier that day along with for some reason fifteen bucks so all was right with the world. “Step right up and have your day enhanced!” He yelled as he started to tap dance in place trying to grab the attention of someone. Really he was having too much fun with whatever this was.

When she’d texted him to meet up for lunch, the last thing Cassie was expecting was this. Not because it was out of character for him, but because when you think of things people would be doing, this didn’t qualify as first guesses, even if it was peak Eli and she shouldn’t have been surprised by it. “Dude. why are you like this?” seemed to be the first question that came from her as she got closer to where he was and bent down to pick up Clyde. “I’m sure Clyde didn’t ask for this to be his day, did you buddy?” She asked the turtle and sent her friend a look.

The large man sighed as he waited in the long line to get his coffee. He wasn’t having a very good morning. He looked to the person beside him with a sad smile. “Sorry I’m not much company. This morning was the worst, honestly.” He crossed his arms over his chest as he pouted. “My bike chain broke, so I had to take the bus to work, which isn’t terrible, but it put me behind. Today is doughnut day at work and I usually get there early enough for a doughnut, but as I walked in…” He sighed dramatically looking down at the floor. “Gloria grabbed the last doughnut and I know she had one before the last one.” He lifted his head rolling his eyes. Zeke didn’t like too many people, but Gloria seemed to always get under his skin. “So not only is my bike broke. I didn’t even get a doughnut. The worst.”

“Okay, If some woman named Gloria suddenly goes missing in the next couple days. I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and not immediately assume it’s from your low key feud with her.” Cassie couldn’t help but tease through a tiny bit of amusement, though she was truly sad that his day wasn’t going for him, she did have a sweet solution though and then offered up, “I did just make some French Vanilla cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream, that will be, a million times better than any donut you would have eaten, if you’re interested in improving your day.”

Matthew smiled softly and kissed the top of her head. “Yeah, I think it’s because we’re adults now,” he said. “We’ve come to the point where it’s time for careers and stable relationship and all that. Isn’t that weird?” It was a little weird. Even for him, who had been straightlaced and responsible for pretty much his whole life, it was a little weird. 

He chuckled as she spoke. “I’m not gonna have to talk to anybody, am I?” he asked. “I mean, I’m sure no one would want to talk to me anyway, but still.” He chuckled. “The relationship to clothes is similar between me and Lurch.”

At the acknowledgment that they were, in fact, adults now Cassie groaned. Yeah, she was aware of it, just hearing it out loud and laid out like that, he was right, it did make it a little bizarre. “It’s weird because, in words of Jason Mendoza, we’re too old to eat off the kids' menu and too young to die.” Was it a stupid thing to quote? Probably. Did she care? Not at the moment. “As weird as being an adult is though, I’m good with the idea of just moving forward in life. It’s weird, but there are good things. Like when I think about most things I did, my early twenties I just get exhausted and thank God that’s not my life anymore and I don’t have to give my energy to things I just don’t care about and there is something so freeing about not caring.” 

“If anything, you’ll have to talk to people who are genuine friends of mine who just wanna make sure you’re, ya know, a decent person who treats me nicely., but other than the possibility of that,” She shrugged. “I have no idea, I don’t think so, it’s definitely not gonna be like a, you’re suddenly Pete Davidson, type situation. That I can promise.” Cassie explained trying to reassure him that it wasn’t going to be too much, at least she hoped that it wasn’t.

it took wes quite some time to get to the front door. mostly because when the person at the other end started knocking, his brain refused to default to the possibility that he had a visitor. well… human visitor. alive visitor. when he finally did open the door to see who was knocking–he went through a very subtle facial journey. from confusion, to disappointment, to acceptance. all in one go. “i apologize for the wait,” he began. “i thought you were the ghost my realtor told me about.” he said as if it were a perfectly reasonable explanation. 

By now Cassie should have been used to the oddities that came with being around Wesley and on some level she was, but that still didn’t stop the look of something between confusion and concern for his mental state that she’d given him when his words registered. “Why would a ghost knock?” She asked him but then shook her head. “Ya know what doesn’t matter.” She stepped into the house. “I brought you pasta.”

Matthew smiled softly and kissed her back. “Maybe so,” he said. “And I think part of it is that we just understand each other. You know my focus on my work doesn’t mean I love you any less, or put any less value on our relationship, or anything like that. You know how I feel about you, and I know the same thing about you.”

He kissed her again with another smile. “Happier, then,” he teased. He laughed. “When it comes to finding nice clothes, it is,” he said. “Every day stuff isn’t so bad, but I guess people just don’t expect Lurch to be fancy.”

Cassie listened to him as he spoke and he was right. The two of them loved their career's but regardless of how hectic their schedules became they were gonna find a way to make it work because of how much they loved each other. “See when you put it like that our relationship sounds incredibly stable, which is nice.” 

“Happier is accurate” She mumbled against his lips and kissed him again. “I feel like I’ve said this before, but you’re far too handsome to be referred to as Lurch regardless of the height comparison, but I get it.”

“Oh my god,” Paige replied through their laughter as they covered their face for a moment. “I am never going to look at that man the same, I hope you know.  If he asks you why I kept staring at his pants, I’ll tell him it’s because I heard rave reviews about his pasta.” Paige nodded along at her words, knowing it was exactly what they needed to hear and why they had asked their best friend in the first place. Paige knew that there was no rush, that they were confident and comfortable in what they had with Hayat. But at the same time, the thought of proposing to Hayat came to them several times a week. The idea of celebrating their love in front of friends and family filled their heart with joy and they weren’t sure if they wanted to wait five years before that happened. They were turning 36 at the end of the summer and the closer they got to 40, the more they wanted to have a truly settled life. Of course nothing was guaranteed and maybe that was some of the urgency. They wanted to live a life as Hayat’s wife for as long as they could.  “It’s a good question. I mean we’ve talked about it before. She does want to marry me, but…god, maybe 6 months is too fast. I feel like she might get overwhelmed. Not necessarily in a bad way, she has mentioned marriage as a thing in the future…” Paige trailed off, still lost in their own thought a bit as they drove. “I suppose I should just talk to her about it though that takes the romance out of it, doesn’t it?”

A rather unattractive snort left Cassie's lips as she listened to her friend's words and shook her head. "Yeah, no he can't know that you know any of that. I can just see how red his face would be, already and just be normal pretend you know nothing." She managed to get out fully amused by the topic of the conversation. Aside from that, it was just nice seeing Paige happy and in love and pursuing that love into greater things. Cassie was happy for them and Hayat and that the two of them were working out, though she hadn't doubted they would when they'd started dating. "I don't think the romance is affected at all, honestly. There's nothing more romantic than talking to your partner about spending the rest of your lives together and respect their comfort level in your relationship and It's not like the element of surprise is gone. She's still not going to know when exactly it's going to happen or how it's going to happen and if it's what she does want there's like this level of heart racing anticipation until it does happen so if anything it's more romantic to talk about it." She explained and shrugged. "Or at least it is to me, but I tend to overanalyze everything and don't enjoy being completely blindsided even if it is for something wonderful so, I could be wrong."

Matthew grinned at her, leaning in to kiss her lightly on the lips. “You absolutely are,” he agreed. He smiled a little and shrugged. “They were all nice enough,” he said. “They just either wanted too much from me or too little. I’ve never been a casual relationship kind of person, you know that – but at the same time my job is important to me. It’s a hard balance to find.” He kissed her again. “But you found it without even trying.”

“Yeah, of course,” he said, with a little smile. “As long as it makes you happy, I’ll do it.” He chuckled softly. “It’ll probably take longer for me than it will for you,” he teased. “At least to find a suit that will fit me.”

Cassie’s lips sank happily into his with each kiss that he gave and unconsciously snuggled closer into him in pure content taking the time to just enjoy being in his arms. “I don’t know how I managed to pull that one off but for the record you’ve also made finding balance very easy. Maybe we just got the timing just right somehow.” She shrugged and pulled him into another kiss.

“Just being with you makes me happy but I do appreciate that.” She told him as she rested her head against his chest. “Ugh, it must be so hard being just so tall.” Cassie teased as she looked up at him and playfully rolled her eyes.

    “You really, really could.” Alana agreed, “which is why I started off with an offer of bribery. Expecting things out of the goodness of people’s heart seems risky.” In fact, if the shoe was on the other foot Alana very possibly would have at least taken a moment to pretend to be on the fence about it. “Thank you,” she had eagerly plopped down. “So, could I buy you a fresh coffee or at the very least flatter you with an arrangement of superficial compliments?” 

"Trust me I have had enough superficial compliments to last me a lifetime so definitely all good on that front," She rejected without a second thought about it and really that was an everyday part of her career she could have lived without to be quite honest so joking or not it was just unappealing. "I will take ya, up on a coffee though, but only if I can buy it for you." Cassie couldn't help but offer as the other took a seat. "Like, I realize that sounds like too good to be true, but I feel weird letting people buy me things, so just enjoy and let me, I insist."

“Yes, brand new, fresh off the road, and very disoriented.” she said, glad to finally admit that she was far out of her element. “Oh wow, I mean…if it’s not too much of a burden on you, that would be great.” Ellie said shaking her head. “How about I buy you coffee or something in exchange.” she offered, feeling indebted to Cassie. 

"It's not a burden at all really it's not, I've got a clear schedule so it's all good, so you're in luck." She shrugged off with a wave of her hand and a bright smile and then shook her head. "Oh no you don't have to do that, don't even worry about it, this is my pleasure, really. You are going to love it here. I mean you've got to be on your toes for bikers, but you're gonna love it."
