UPDATE: HOLY SHIT
Sometimes I’ve felt like I had to flirt with men to deescalate dangerous situations. Especially at like bars when there’s multiple drunk men around. I’ve realized lately just how frequently I’ve felt threatened and panicked around strange men.
“There is several times more genetic variety among women than among men.” What drugs are you on?
Reading is my drug of choice.
Women Are Very Much Not Alike, Gene Study Finds
In a study published today in the journal Nature, scientists said they had found an unexpectedly large genetic variation on the X chromosome among women. The findings were published in conjunction with the first comprehensive decoding of the chromosome, which appeared in the same journal.
Females can differ from each other almost as much as they do from males in the behavior of many genes at the heart of sexual identity, researchers said.
“Literally every one of the females we looked at had a different genetic story,” said Duke University genetics expert Huntington Willard, who co-wrote the study. “It is not just a little bit of variation.”
To avoid any toxic effect from double sets of X genes, female cells randomly choose one copy of the X chromosome and silence it – or so scientists had believed.
The new analysis found that the second X chromosome was not a silent partner. As many as 25% of its genes are active, serving as blueprints to make necessary proteins.
To investigate this variation, Carrel and Willard isolated cells from 40 women and measured the activity of hundreds of genes to see whether those on the second X chromosome were active or silent.
Although those extra genes were supposed to be turned off, they found that about 15% of them in all female cells were still active, or in the terminology of genetics, “expressed.” In some women, up to an additional 10% of those X-linked genes showed varying patterns of activity.
“This is 200 to 300 genes that are expressed up to twice as much as in a male or some other females,” Willard said. “This is a huge number.”
Researchers were surprised that they found so many unexpected differences in the behavior of the one sex chromosome that men and women share.
Though there is dramatic variation in the activation of genes on the X chromosomes that women inherit, there is none among those in men, the researchers reported.
Researchers have yet to understand the effect of so many different patterns of gene activation among women or determine what controls them, but all the evidence suggests that they are not random.
“What had looked like a simple yes or no has turned into a thousand shades of gray,” said molecular biologist David Page, an expert on sex evolution at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in Cambridge, Mass.
Illuminating this complex palette was the work of an international team of 250 scientists led by geneticist Mark Ross at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Hinxton, England. The team produced the first complete sequence of the X chromosome about two years after the decoding of the male Y chromosome.
The international team identified 1,098 functional genes along the X chromosome, more than 14 times as many as scientists had located on the tiny Y chromosome.
Males:
X–1098 genes with no variation in activation
Y–78 genes 😂
Females:
X1–1098 genes with dramatic variation in activation
X2–200-300 genes with dramatic variation in activation
Females are genetically superior to males in every way.
me @ the y chromosome

I love men in martial arts. Men should keep beating each other up for fun.

It’s a fantastic point, but John Boyega’s net worth also puts him at $6 million. When he says eat the rich, he isn’t safe either…
There’s a pretty big fucking difference between six million and one trillion lmao
Not to mention the way the money was made
An actor being paid for a role / doing some advertising is a world away form a man setting up a cooperate money machine that horrendously exploits workers
This is something I hate SO MUCH about how tumblr talks about money.
Like, I get that famous actors have large amounts of money, some of them are even probably overpaid (I have complicated thoughts about how actors are paid because of the nature of acting as a career), but they are exchanging labor for money, and their salaries are an expense involved in making a movie.
But like… an actor is paid for a job. They’re a worker like the rest of us. Bezos isn’t paid for a job, he’s paid for being the person who owns Amazon and despite being obscenely wealthy, he does all sorts of shitty things and to underpay and exploit his workers, and avoid paying taxes, so that more of the money Amazon generates will be profit (worker’s salaries are not profit, they’re a business expense).
These two mechanisms of acquiring money are fundamentally very different.
The reason why billionaires are evil aren’t because having money is bad, its because to get a billion dollars you have to cheat. You have to take it from someone else. If Bezos paid all his workers and suppliers fairly and treated them well, and paid his fair amount of taxes, and etc, then it literally wouldn’t matter how much money he earned, because he wouldn’t be doing anyone any harm. But its not actually possible to amass a billion dollars (a full order of magnitude bigger than a million) while behaving in an ethical manner.
The last post is everything.
Also wanna say that John Boyega specifically does a lot of proper grassroots good work and actively puts himself in a position where he knows the racists will keep on coming for him, to actively and materially help marginalised communities.
The fact a black man is never able to say a single word without being criticised is not being missed btw.
A scale representation I made of John Boyega’s Wealth compared to Jeff Bezo’s Wealth. Both representations are composed of equal sized squares copy and pasted together. Boyega has 6 squares. Bezos has 1 million squares. This is the same relation as 6 million to 1 trillion.
[ID: Two green rectangles. One, extremely tiny, is inside a circle, labeled John Boyega’s Wealth. The other, taking up the majority of the picture, is labeled Jeff Bezos’ Wealth]
Treating John Boyega as the problem is fundamentally ignoring what is actually going on. His wealth is insignificant in comparison.
Worrying about Boyega is the same as looking at the Smog in LA then turning to look at all the traffic on the 405 AND the one smoker looking with you, and deciding that the smoker is part and parcel of the same problem. No amount of smokers can equal the damage done by that one stretch of freeway. They are fundamentally different. The smoker is not even remotely the problem. Turning on the smoker is setting yourself up for failure.
Some people on this website will look at a relatively well off worker and think, “he makes a lot more money than me so he’s The Bad Guy”. It’s such a fundamental misunderstanding of the problems at play. Boyega is well and truly on our side of this line.
Not only is it a fundamental misunderstanding, it is EXACTLY what the rich WANT us to be doing! They want us fighting over who took the bigger crumbs so we don’t notice they have the whole bakery!
Kentucky had a trigger law. Abortion is now banned with no exceptions made for rape, incest, minors, or fetal anomalies. Kentucky is a poor state, and the rural and Appalachian regions of KY are remarkably so. One of the biggest barriers to care in these areas is transportation–we don’t have any sort of real public transportation, and most people do not have cars or reliable access to them. Attempting to get to another state to have an abortion is not feasable for the poor. By enacting such a complete ban in a state where so many residents are quite literally trapped in their current location, you have not only completely stripped females of their right to control their own body and future, but have ensured the worsening of numerous socioeconomic problems in a state already riddled with so many. The state will force pregnancies and then refuse to lift a finger to fix the messes it causes (being things like poverty, homelessness, abused or abandoned children, and drug addiction) or care for the life it forced into being. From the very bottom of my heart, I want every pro-lifer to know that you are unworthy of the air you breathe. I want every politician to know that you are worthy of even less.
oh uh girlies were getting into the "too fucking hot at night to sleep" part of the year
Study shows Millennial Men do not think of women as their equals
A majority of millennial men failed to see women as equals, according to the study, which looked at how college biology students viewed their classmates’ intelligence and achievements, the Harvard Business Review reported.
Among the findings:
In every biology class surveyed, a man was seen as the most celebrated student, even in instances where women earned significantly better grades.
Men were also found to overestimate the intelligence of their male classmates over that of female ones.
Men continued exaggerating their assessments of the male peers, despite unequivocal evidence that their female peers were performing better.
Women, conversely, weren’t found to display a bias: Their assessments of fellow classmates tended to be spot-on.
The National Institutes of Health researchers pointed out that female STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) majors drop out at significantly higher rates than their male counterparts.
“The reasons for this difference are complex, and one possible contributing factor is the social environment women experience in the classroom,” they wrote.
Still, scores of men are under the impression that they’ve become the target of reverse sexism. Conservative columnist John Hawkins ranted in Town Hall last year:
“Men have it rougher in America than most people realize. In part, that’s because they’re one of the few groups (along with white people, conservatives, and Christians) it’s cool to crap on at every opportunity. In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a nonstop assault on masculinity in America.”
But research has confirmed the reality of gender bias against women. A staggering 90 percent of women reported experiencing gender harassment in the workplace, a 2010 University of Michigan study found. The results suggest that such harassment had the purpose of driving women out of jobs and not the generally assumed motivation of trying to draw women into relationships.
“One could argue that, in these instances, ‘sexual harassment is used both to police and discipline the gender outlaw: the woman who dares to do a man’s job is made to pay,’” the researchers wrote, quoting an article by Katherine M. Franke, an associate professor of law at the University of Arizona College of Law.
As for millennial men specifically, they have been less accepting of female leaders than their older male counterparts, according to a 2014 survey of more than 2,000 adults residing in the United States, the Harvard Business Review reports.
Half of Millenial men said their careers would take priority over their partners’.
Three-fourths of women, on the other hand, said their careers would be at least as important as their husbands’.
oh look its the shit women have been saying all the damn time and antifeminists stamp their feet and cry about
