The Druid Quilt

First quilt is completely cut out! 12 squares, 48 mottled brown half squares, 24 dark brown and sparkle half squares, 24 sparkle leaf half squares, and 96 green meadow half squares. All of the pieces were cut out in 24 hours, and that included a trip to the discount fabric store and hour away - this is where I was able to find the lively green meadow printed fabric. This quilt is expected to be 3x4 squares when complete, and it will have a "friendship star" pattern. It's supposed to rain the next few days, so I should be able to get it all sewn up and ready to be tied off.

Sketched out 35 different 9 block styles for The Christmas Quilt Project. Picked out which quilts will be for each family member. Next step will be picking out fabric out of my stash, and figuring out themes for each person. I foresee a lot of Goodwill and thrift store trips for inexpensive fabric. I will buy some from Wal-Mart and Joanns as I need them, or when I need a very specific fabric pattern. I will be drawing out each quilt, coloring in the designs, and writing notes on each one. As fabric is gathered everything will be stored in Ziploc baggies. I'm content with where I'm at, though I'm sure stress will kick in at somepoint. But for now, this is good. Cheers, Megan

Welcome!

Welcome to The Christmas Quilt Project! Every year for Christmas, I like to give my family handmade gifts. I don't usually have the money to get expensive toys for my niece and nephew, and buying for family is difficult when they get everything they need themselves. In the past I've knit hats and scarves, I've made heating pads filled with corn, and even costumes for my niece and nephew. This year, with inspiration from the Creative Crafts class I've been working in with a group of special education students, I've decided to make quilts for gifts this year. I have a huge stash of fabric I've gathered over the years that will be perfect for this. The quilts will be somewhere between crib size and lap quilt size.

I will be posting updates here as I go. I've already started sketching up quilt block ideas that will be used. Each quilt will have a unique 9 block square design - no two quilts will use the same design. Along with the special Christmas Quilts, I will be working on a few pillows and small quilts for myself, for sale, and for practice. Anything I sell will be listed on the Sunset Luna Art Etsy page.
