Clever Mash-ups of ‘Star Wars’ Characters and Iconic Works of Art
We connect with books in an intellectual way, but the most valuable relationships we have with them are emotional; to say that you merely admire or respect a book is, on some level, to insult it. Feelings are so fundamental to literary life that it can be hard to imagine a way of relating to literature that doesn’t involve loving it. Without all those emotions, what would reading be?

Solving an Unsolvable Math Problem
Alec Wilkinson profiles Yitang Zhang, who recently solved a theorem that has stumped mathematicians for over a century:
“Is there a talent a mathematician should have?” “Concentration,” Zhang said. We were walking across the campus in a light rain. “Also, you should never give up in your personality,” he continued. “Maybe something in front of you is very complicated, it’s lengthy, but you should be able to pick up the major points by your intuition.”

A few misconceptions to let go of in your twenties
…and letting go is freedom.
1. The pressure to have everything figured out
2. The need to cure loneliness
3. The desire to be independent
4. Constant spiritual discontentment
Short blurbs, but each of these hits really hard. I’m so glad the enemy gets called out on his shenanigans, I’m so glad I get called out on mine.
Train Torture - 04/08/14
"This entry was typed on the train with the help from Jessie...excuse us for the verb tense...I think it hops around a bit"
So this one time. It was a dark and blustery night. Left work around 9:55PM. Jessie and I demonstrated poor decision quality and took the R. Little did we know, we'd end up stranded undeground between Lexington and Queens Plaza.
When we heard the brakes, Jessie and I knew that we had made the wrong train decision.
Our car was an eclectic bunch. Our only rations: a half a bottle of water and small bag of crushed potato chips. Our entertainment: Chess on my 11 inch Macbook Air.
A seemingly wise, old sikh man was prophesizing. But perhaps he was merely commenting on our predicament...we will never know.
At 10:30PM, we heard the humming of the engines. Could this mean we're moving?
...Clearly not
We received several updates about how we were going to go back to Lexington...many of the passengers complained iver the frequency of the updates...They just kept prattling on about the LIRR and how they should have just taken that...
First signs of movement...10:44PM.
Slowly chugging forward...or backward...however one wants to look at the situation.
10:49PM the train stopped...the conductor mumbled an unintelligible message about the broken rail...uncertain how that is disrupting our progress on heading backwards...
Dissatisfaction spreads throughout the train like a plague
Comments such as, "Dang yo" are uttered with bitter resentment
10:50PM...the train jolts to a start and Jessie almost flies out of her seat
10:52PM...the train screeches to a halt. Whiplash anyone? Jessie exclaims, "The stress of this is giving me TMJ".
The conductor announces more apologies for the situation...we are still uncertain where we are going to end up. A random passenger states that we are going to get on the "N" line and end up at Queensboro Plaza...not sure who is source is considering the conductor initially stated that we are going back to Lexington
10:55PM - "We are doing out best to get you out of this situation"...words of confidence from the conductor...
Random passenger - "Next time I'm going to bring mad snacks" as she snacks on Pringles
10:59PM - Conductor announces that we will be moving shortly. Within 30 seconds we start to inch forward...10 seconds in...another jolt and immediate stop...Jessie is struggling to stay in her seat throughout this ordeal
11:04PM - "What is life about" - Existential questions from our new train buddies...the ratchet folk
11:07PM - "We have supervision on both ends of the train" - Unclear as to what that means and how that is going to benefit us.
Meanwhile, we have been watching an MTA employee inspecting and climbing the train with a flashlight.
11:14PM - We started watching You've Got Mail
11:16PM - More jerky movements. And now a calm stop...guess the conductor learned his lesson.
11:23PM - announcement - We are now heading into Queens and stopping at Queensboro Plaza...good news for us Astoria folk
11:27PM - We've made it above ground. At last, cell service. this is the time to make desperate phone calls and text messages. We ended up picking up tons of people at Queensboro...and we ended up with quite the interesting bunch...image included.
