“Assimilated.” Ransom repeated the word as he regarded the stray that’d walked in out of curiosity which he fully expected. Place wasn’t big and a new cop would be talk. He’d had a number of people stop through and a few of the residents drop off gifts and got an ear full from the main waitress at the diner, who he was sure was the towns gossip queen. There was always at least one in any small town, which having grew up in nothing, but small towns he knew exactly what they were like. Even more so remote one’s like Oymyakon. “Odd way to put it. Makes it sound like you’re trying to figure out how to play a part to fit in here. Not that I have a problem with that. Long as you play you’re part right.” Ransom said flatly. 

"Well other than being a master here I don’t really know what else I should be doing. I know I need to look for someone to claim but other than that...that is about all I can think think of right now. I am sure that I will figure it out at some point. I just have to walk around and learn what there is to do.”

“Some masters do that but most, not really.” He replies simply, it took Nico longer then most slaves to get use to the system but eventually, he got there. “Then there’s claimed slaves, slaves that belong to a master. Some of them aren’t wearing the collars that those in the undercroft wear. Masters like to accessorize their slaves. I am one of the species that is required to wear a collar at all times.”

"I assume that is because they want to keep you from using your powers all the time? I think that I might want one at some point but I think the ways in which I would treat them would be different than most masters from what I have heard.”

Sora smiled softly, he was appreciative that the other was willing to step aside without causing any issues. He didn’t have much faith in the vampires and their need to dominate in any situation presented to them. “It’s alright.” He said, “Sort of, have to take these back to the store. I’d also rather not keep the store alone for too long, in case someone needs anything.”

“Did you want some help carrying them back? You seem to be carrying a lot.” He offers up. “Plus I don’t really know my way around so it might be nice to be able to learn while helping you.”

Aleixo had been about to get up and just take the book back, but someone got there before him.  It was a surprise, though a welcome one, the phoenix not in the mood to deal with the potential hassle over something as silly as a book.  “Thank you.”  He replied with a small incline of his head, accepting the book when it was handed back over to him.  “I appreciate it.”

“No, problem. I am Chase by the way. Are you new here?” He asks, “I don’t think that I have seen you around here before.”

obsidian wasn’t dumb to the fact that there would be people out and about. he wasn’t purposefully secluding himself or anything like that. he was just a merman on a mission. he’d just gotten down to his underwear when he heard a voice behind him. he looked over his shoulder at the other with a grin. “yes, i do know that. i’m the one that made it start to snow.” he slipped out of his underwear next and put it with the rest of his clothes pile. “don’t worry, it’s not a permanent thing.”

“you are the one that made it snow? So then are you an elemental or something?” He asks before looking elsewhere when the other started to fully change to give him some sort of privacy.

“The heart and soul of this place. The undercroft.” Nico hums and looks into the space to look at the slaves. “This is where the unclaimed slaves live, at any point you can request a slave in here and they’ll be brought to you or you can come get one yourself.”

"Oh okay...so I take it not a lot of masters come down here then just to you know, get to know people?” He asks while looking at the other. “I have a feeling I might not come down here much. But maybe I should request someone so I can get to know them..”

Things in the Undercroft when Aleixo had woken up had seemed…hectic, for lack of a better word.  Some of the other slaves were more distressed than usual, a lot of them angry, but the phoenix was trying to not think of the last week.  He’d been a much different man back then, angrier and quick to lash out, before…everything had happened.  Aleixo was just relieved that he hadn’t been taken back to that point in his life, not wanting to have the hell that he’d gone through so fresh in his mind.  The phoenix had finally tried to step as far away as he could from everyone else, heading into one of the common rooms and grabbing a book.

He settled down onto one of the couches and was just getting into the story when the book was suddenly yanked from his hands.  The phoenix sighed, pressing his lips together as annoyance surged briefly.  “Do you mind?”

When Chase noticed that someone had taken a book from the person who had just entered the room, seemingly to find some peace, he got up from where he was sitting and took the book back from whoever stole it from the other. “Sorry, I believe that he had that first, if you want to read something there are plenty more books over there.” Chase gestured to the bookcase before handing the book back to Alexio. “Here, I believe you were reading this.”

Ransom had welcomed the cold once his feet hit the ground in Oymyakon. It wasn’t a quick trip from the states and a lot of negotiating to get around and to the remote location. Thankfully Ransom had been born in the surrounding area and spoke Russian fluently. It made it much easier to get where he needed to go turning down the offer of the castle to pay his way since they now had control of a once autonomous village. 

The job offer came with a house that he’d spent the first half of the day moving into, second half was at the castle being ‘taught’ by the guards how to handle the slaves of the castle that were likely going to be frequenting his village as well as the masters. Ransom played nice though had no intention of following any directive that went against his moral code and was less than impressed with those he’d meet in the positions. It explained a lot.

By the time he’d gotten through it all, despite being exhausted, he’d went back to the station to try to familiarize himself with the local crime, both past and present, as well as the current residents and shop owners. Thankfully the station was a bit more up to date than he was expecting, not as advanced as the NYPD, but it was better than some of the smaller towns he’d been to. Course he dind’t get too far in his research before he passed out at his new desk.

He’d slept well despite where it was he was sleeping. Hadn’t stirred in the least until a hand touched the handle to the entrance of the door to the station. Ransom a notorious light sleeper. It did take him a few to recall where he was and why. Thankfully he was still somewhat in uniform from training. He didn’t get up from his desk the place pretty empty as it was, seemed since the take over the position as chief had been vacant and a good deal of turn around for the lesser roles meaning it was him taking care of everything currently. All that said his visitor wouldn’t have to go far to know who they needed to talk to.

The leviathan leaned back in his chair as he regarded the new arrival unconsciously trying to get a read on him, a habit he’d picked up from working in law enforcement for over six decades. “Something you need or just curious?”

Chase had still been getting used to the grounds around the area. He noticed that there was a police stations and he ended up wandering inside out of curiously, wondering if it was actually similar to that of the ones that he knew in America. What he wasn’t expecting was someone to ask him if he needed help, or maybe he was just too distracted at the time to realize that that was something mostly common. “Sorry, I was just looking around. I am trying to get myself assimilated to the grounds around here.”

the weather was getting warmer and that was the telltalle sign that winter was on its way out and spring was on its way in. being a creature of the depths, he much preferred the colder temperatures than warmer but he knew he couldn’t outright stop nature. however, given his particular aptitude for elemental magic, he figured he’d hold on to winter for as long as he could. so, surrounding the lake and the nearby area in the forest, he made it begin to snow. nothing too heavy but more than noticeable. once he got the particular chill in the air, the pleased merman began to shed his clothes to enjoy a nice refreshing swim. “this is what i’m talking about. i feel like i’ve earned this.” he spoke more to himself than anything.

Chase had been walking around the castle grounds as he noticed someone by the water. He was confused when someone was stripping off their clothes while it was snowing outside. Given as a vampire, the weather never really bothered him much. Hearing the other talking, he went over to try to figure out why they would take off all their clothes in such weather. “Sorry, you do realize that it is snowing right?”

Sora had always taken up the position of making deliveries by himself, he’d take part of a day where he’d close the shop for an hour or two to do it. Doing it at the same time every day made it so that others came to expect the shop to be closed at that time every day. Fortunately for him there wasn’t many places he had to deliver, only a few people needed groceries so his trips were relatively short and simple. He was on his way back to one when he came upon someone standing in his path. 

“Excuse me, I need to get past” He said politely, keeping himself in the spot he stopped at until the other either moved or said something.

Chase had been checking his phone to see if he had missed any messages and didn’t even realize that he was standing in the way, “Sorry about that.” He moved off to the side so that the other could pass him. “In a rush to get back?” He asks noticing the other carrying bags.

It was a shame that he didn’t have any premade sweets, but the faerie now understood why that was the case even if he still felt bad that the chef would have to make his. Oliver guessed he just assumed that other masters had sweets stored somewhere the way that Avery did since he knew he wasn’t the only one who liked them. “It’s fine, I think I just got used to being given it by other masters.” He admitted sheepishly with a light shrug before politely asking the chef for cotton candy. He didn’t catch the rest of Chase’s words though. “Sorry, what did you say? I’m deaf so can you speak clearer please? But if we’re talking warm, hot coco is my favorite kind!”

“I was asking if you wanted your sweets to be warmed up or something along those lines.” He says a bit louder so that the other could hear him. “Do you also speak sign language? I picked it up in America while I was there so if that is easier for you, I can do that too?” He asks not wanting to trouble the other too much with communication.

“Yeah, you too.”  Though the dragon didn’t sound sincere.  Most masters were on his shit list, especially if he’d only just met them.  “Sure, yeah, I guess that I could.  You want a real tour or just want to see all the important stuff?”

“I don’t know really, what would be the different between everything? Important meaning?” He asks in confusion. “I would think everything around here would be important wouldn’t it?”

‘Friends’ the Wendigo thought as he led the other, Nico didn’t really have any friends in the castle. I guess the merman was one but Nico had tried to eat him on a number of occasions. “Yeah… friends.” He says simply as he gives the master a tour.

“Alright so where should we start then.” He asks while following the male around as they gave him the tour of the castle. He walked around and took in everything that was around him.

Words couldn’t explain how relieved he was that Chase wasn’t interested in sleeping with him. The faerie had no idea what he would’ve done if that wasn’t the case, but there was no way in hell he was letting anyone touch him unless he wanted them to. Honestly, it helped him loosen up a bit more now that he knew he wouldn’t be assaulted. “Well, you’re in luck cause I can definitely do that!” All he had to do was pretend he was okay and be his usual friendly self, but it seemed that wouldn’t be so hard with the promise of sweets. “Um…Y-You don’t have to do that. I’m fine with a store-bought chocolate bar or cotton candy.”

“Really? I don’t usually keep that kind of thing around here. I am new after all. I mean I should have gone to the store probably...I will have to make a mental note to do that.” He mumbled the last part to himself. “But in any event, wouldn’t you want something nice and warm? I figure sweets taste the best when they are warmer.”

“Probably, the castle is huge from what I’ve heard about it. Surprised you weren’t given a tour or something.” Not hat he cared all that much for the others plight, he was sure he could figure it all out on his own if he tried hard enough. “Sorry I couldn’t be of more use to you.”

“Yeah I was kind of expecting someone to try to give me a tour or show me around.” He tells the other. “It’s alright, I am sorry to have bothered you.”

Nico didn’t take his gaze off of the other as he gave him a slight nod. “Yeah… I’ve been around long enough to know my way around this place. Why? Would you like me to give you a tour?” He asks the master with a raised eyebrow.

“Actually yeah, that would be rather nice if you could do that. Plus that way I can get to know some people around here as well. I figured a few friends wouldn’t hurt.”

He smiled up at the man again once he was invited in, glad that he seemed friendlier than the faerie had expected. He’d been lucky to avoid most of the abusive and psychotic masters of the castle but knew that his luck could run out at any time, especially after what recently happened to him. Oliver’s eyes roamed the suite as the master closed the door behind him, taking in the decor. It had always surprised him how different they all looked despite being in the same castle. “I’m Oliver but you can call me Oli. It’s nice to meet you, Chase.” He spoke kindly, though not as cheerfully as he usually was, planting himself on the nearest seat and crossed his legs. For the first time he felt awkward and unsure of what to do but tried his hardest to loosen up. “Oh! Um…do you have any sweets?”

“Well Oliver it’s nice to meet you. I hope you don’t mind, I sort of invited you here because I didn’t really want to spend some time by myself. I know that masters usually invite slaves up here to you know...have sex and all but I am not like those other masters...if that makes sense.” He explains before snapping his fingers as he let his chef walk in. “What kind of sweets would you like Oli?”
