For our inaugural issue, we sat down with the multi-talented and global pop superstar, Sabrina Carpenter. We talk about her tour, her dream collaborators, take a deep dive into her budding romance, and talk about her potential future career as a fashion designer.

DREAM BEAT MAGAZINE: Looking back, how did you feel when your previous career ended and you started your music career? Do you feel like the experience changed you as an artist and how you move forward in your solo career now?
SABRINA CARPENTER: Well, I wouldn’t say my previous career ended because I’m still doing the acting stuff. Of course, just not as much as I used to, but I still have so much love for acting that I couldn’t just give it up entirely. But I wouldn’t say it necessarily changed anything for me. Sure, it was kind of scary embarking on a new career journey, but I have always had a love for making music, so it was a no brainer to finally venture into the music industry.
DBM: What do you love the most about your family?
SC: I really just love how tight-knit we are. I adore and love my sisters to the moon and back, and my mom is the strongest person I know. I would literally go to the ends of the earth for her.
DBM: You got your start at such a young age. If you could say anything to your younger self, what would you say?
SC: Honestly, I would probably tell my younger self to not start out so young. The industry is rough as it is and it’s even more rough on kids. I would say to just be patient and maybe wait until you turn 18, at the very least.
DBM: On your tour, you are known for adlibbing at the end of your song, “Nonsense”. What has been your favorite, and have there been any you regret or any you wish you had done?
SC: My favorite one was probably the one I did a few days ago during my birthday show. It never gets old fucking around with my fans. I don’t think there’s any that I regret, though. I’ve loved them all, personally.
DBM: What are your career goals, and have they changed or stayed the same since you started?
SC: Winning a GRAMMY would be pretty fuckin’ dope. Or an EMMY or an Oscar. I dunno, any of those three would be an absolute dream. But I think I’m shooting for the GRAMMY more. I would also would love to do a little more acting as my Emails I Can’t Send era comes to an end. My goals have pretty much always stayed the same.
DBM: What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now? Will you still be doing music or something entirely different?
SC: In 10 years, I definitely hope to still be doing what I’m doing. I’ll only be 34, so that’s still pretty young to me. I’ll still be able to get it at that age, if you ask me.
DBM: If you could pick one song from another artist that you wish you had written, what song would it be?
SC: Oh, that’s such a good question! I just saw Taylor Swift in concert the other day, so I think I’m going to go with “Enchanted.” It’s such a beautiful song.
DBM: You've partnered with several brands and have even created products of your own, like your most recent fragrance, Sweet Tooth. Would you like to do anything like that again in the future? What would be your dream product design?
SC: Oh, I would absolutely love to! Having my own fragrance has always been a dream of mine and I was so excited I got the opportunity to do it. I honestly don’t know that I have a dream product design, but I would kind of like to have my own clothing line at some point, too.
DBM: Do you have any plans for new music once your tour is finished? What do you like to do in your off time?
SC: I honestly think I’m just going to take some time off. I’ve been going non-stop since last summer and I don’t think I’ve really had a true break yet. I’d like to hopefully spend as much time with my boyfriend as I can while he prepares for the upcoming football season. However, I’m always working on new music, no matter what I’m doing. That’s never out of the question.
DBM: Speaking of your boyfriend, we know that you are seeing NFL player, Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals. What's it like dating someone in a completely different field of profession from you?
SC: Y’all just couldn’t resist asking about him, huh? Honestly, it’s a whole different ball game. No pun intended. I’ve never dated an athlete before until now, so at first, I was kind of just like, “What the fuck am I doing? I’ve never done this before, I don’t know much about football. Let alone, sports in general. I’m not going to fit in with all the other wives and girlfriends because they don’t have the same kind of job I do.” Though, I was lucky that one of my good friends, Madelyn Cline, had already been dating Joe Burrow at that point when I had been introduced to Tee initially, so I was immediately welcomed with open arms by her and felt instantly at ease. I’ve come to learn so much about the sport over the past seven months and I’ve never been happier, honestly. He’s so wonderful and I’m never been more in love.
