Percy remembers being twelve years old, watching his mother lean across the table to brush his father's hair from his eyes. "You look a mess, dear," she said sweetly.
His father had just smiled back, "Thank you, darling." He kissed the back of her hand with a gentle smile.
Percy thought about that memory almost every day, forcing it to replace the memories of their last night together. But it's hard to forget all the blood and the screaming and his mother's panicked face as she tried to push him and Oliver out the door to safety. He remembers the last time he saw his parents alive.
His father took his mother's hand, blood dripping from their finger tips. They looked at each other with an emotion Percy wasn't wise enough to recognize.
Percy never once had to doubt that his parents loved each other. He hopes his daughter can feel the same.
He stands in the doorway, watching as Vex plays with their daughter. Vex is chasing Vesper all around the gardens, both of them laughing wildly. A fond smile crosses his face as he watches his wife scoop their daughter up into her arms.
Vesper shrieks in joy as Vex plasters kisses all over her face. Percy knows the exact second that Vesper sees him because her eyes go wide and she shouts, "Daddy!"
Vex sets her down and immediately Vesper runs to him. He has just enough time to crouch down to her height before he has an arm full of his daughter. He laughs and picks her up, settling her on his hip. Vesper leans up and kisses his cheek.
"Thank you, sweetheart," Percy says, kissing Vesper's head.
Vex walks up to them and smiles, "Do I get one as well?"
"Of course, dear," Percy puts his free arm around her waist and pulls her in for a kiss.
When the pull apart, Vex stays pressed into his side, looking down at their daughter. Her eyes are blinking sleepily and she nestles into Percy's shoulder. Vex and Percy share a fond smile.
"Time for a nap I think," Percy says.
"Do you want me to take her?" Vex asks. "You have work to do, don't you?"
Percy shakes his head, "It's not more important than her, or you. We can go together."
Vex kisses him again, "I love you so much, darling."
He smiles, thinking of his father sweeping his mother into a hug, kissing her cheek. He thinks of them swinging hsi younger siblings between their hands. "I love you too, dear." He takes her hand and kisses the back of it.
