Saw this and wanted to share. It's interesting if surprisingly easier than I thought it would be.
A guy at a protest asked me why I was there and I shrugged and said "I'm transgender and I don't want to die." He didn't quite know how to respond to that, poor guy.
Finding a "reason" for why you're nonbinary is only going to be as productive as finding the reason that cis people exist. They are interesting questions, but any answers are unlikely to impact your life right now.
Save the "whys" for a safer world. What's important now is keeping you alive and well.
i used to worry about that a lot . Then I realized some things. This is the same faulty logic used on gay and lesbian people for ages and I can no more remove alife experience that "made me trans" than I can remove my love of music or the transness itself. Why am I nonbinary? Who really cares.
Remember in DAI when Krem has no real words to describe what he is in Tevene but The Iron Bull is able to lend him words in Qunlat to explain his transness. And how Krem murmurs 'and the qun doesn't treat them like any less of a man?' and bull says 'they are a man.' and it's one of the only places in DAI where the Qun is not only portrayed in a positive light but is portrayed as a place with a different cultural understanding that is actually interesting and nuanced??? And then in DAtV the Qun goes back to being kinda just evil bad and Taash has to go to Tevine to get words for what they're going through because qunari/Rivain doesn't do that whereas enlightened tevinter the imperial ruling power does? And they wanted to humanise tevinter and dock town so they removed slavery but despite saying they wanted to humanise the Qun they instead made them all growling evil mega mobs? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I have mixed feelings about how the Qun conically handles nonbinary stuff because on one hand I do not think it makes sense for them.
The Qun is practical. If something clearly exists, deny it is pointless. You have to figure out what to do with it instead.
The Qun is deeply tied into a trinity of Body, Mind, and Soul. Not a binary of mind & body. Men are the body, the military. Women are the mind, the government. Both men and women make up the spirit. Friends, their spiritual leaders should be Nonbinary.
As logical as that may be, this is a work of fiction write by people with a binary understanding of gender and that's why nonbinary people do not appear in the Qun.
On the other hand, it does reflect the real struggle of finding your place in the world when you are nonbinary. People who wouldn't bat an eye at a transgender man or woman may still reject you. It's depressing but feels kind of validating.
The Qun is imperfect and fascinating and I wish we got to really get emersed in it. I did a lot of research and story telling to build my OC who lived under the Qun and I had such a good time. It's such a good jumping off point for story telling.

Y'know. I was so totally convinced that all men were jealous of women, like I was... I saw being a man as a horrible burden. An obligation I was stuck with. And on a subconscious level, the scariest thought in my mind was growing old as a man, living my whole life fulfilling my patriarchal obligations, and never once living for my own happiness.
I was so jealous of trans women, too! They knew in their hearts they were women, so they didn't have to be men. They knew they had other options... Not like me... But now I know that it's something you choose. You never get it handed to you, like some kind of permission to be a woman. You just decide you want it, and then you are one.
So if you're reading this, and you relate to this at all... You know you don't *have* to be a man, right?... There are other options open to you...

I would like you all to know how truly irelivant C. Kirk was to me before his death. I had never heard of the guy tbh. There's too many rightwing losers screaming hate for me to know them all. He mattered much more to the right than to me which makes sense. He was their boy.
There's a lot of reasosns the idea that the left was sitting around frothing at the mouth for this guy specifically to vanish from the earth is fucking stupid and this is one.
