Prefect Duties || Lily + Dorcas
Lily rolled her eyes, though a small smile crept onto the corners of her lips. At least someone in this bloody school had their head on right. After all these years, even Lily could be considered one to have lost her marbles from time to time. Not that she’d ever admit, but walking into otherwise occupied cupboards and classrooms was really doing her in, to be honest. “Or at the very least clever,” Lily quipped, shaking her head.
"After four times you’d think one would get a clue. I’m going to have to start trading in rounds soon enough, I don’t know how much more my poor eyesight can take."
"It's truly pathetic when you realize that at any given time there is usually about three empty classrooms," she hummed, twirling her wand in her hand with a mischievous smirk. She didn't bother to follow with how she knew that fact. "Although, I don't think I can judge them too much. They don't have the liberty of having the prefect schedules, which means they pick by luck, not by where they know rounds will be. I will agree though, it's getting rather ridiculous. I mean, if you get caught in one spot, why the hell do you keep going back?" Doe puzzled, throwing her hands up in the air at the lack of logic and explanation.

Marlene grinned. “I’m so pleased that you’ve classified all the boys,” she said with a wink. “Tell me, what are the Seventh and Sixth Years?” They were, after all, the most relevant to the two girls; their fellow Sixth Years, and those in the year above them. “It’s probably extremely negative,” she teased, “but there may be a lesson to be learned in using words without knowing their meanings.” Marlene paused before she burst into giggles. “But it’s probably not a lesson I’m going to learn,” she admitted with a wry grin.
Marlene gave Dorcas her puppy dog eyes. “You wouldn’t be angry at me,” she said cheekily, completely at odds with the innocent expression on her face. “There is never enough!” Marlene called at her departing form, before grinning to herself as she entered her changing room. Now—where was Sirius’ kit? Marlene found it in his usual spot, took a whiff, and grinned. Exactly like she’d said; maybe not fresh as a daisy, but—she took experimental whiffs of the other kits around her to be sure—better than the rest, and it kind of also smelled like Sirius.
The Slytherin locker rooms where unsurprisingly usually very tidy. It seemed a shared trait among her team, thus everything was usually in a row and properly cleaned and put away. Going over to her kit, she was able to pull it on swiftly, forgoing the cape and numbered jersey to instead just keep on the muted green jumper she normally woke under it. Grasping her beaters bat in her left hand, she hefted its familiar weight, but twirled it in her hand as if it was weightless. With her free hand, she grabbed her broom and walked out to the pitch, leaning on it as she waited for Marlene.
When the girl walked out, she picked from their last conversation. "By the way, sixth year boys? It's a toss up, because some of them actually came to their senses, while others are still total assholes. And seventh years, well..." she trailed off with a smirk, before giving a shrug. "Mixed bag. A few of them are fantastic kissers though. You didn't hear it from me, of course," she said with a twinkle in her eye.

Marlene snorted. “Actually talked to them?” she joked, eyes sparkling with mischief. “I was sure they’d just keel over at the sight of you actually acknowledging them.” Marlene tapped her lip, pretending to think. “I’m so sorry, who are you again?” she teased, grinning widely at the blonde. Marlene threw her hands up in surrender at Dorcas’ incredulity, then burst out laughing. “Fuck, I don’t actually know?” she admitted with a laugh. “It’s some muggle thing Mac or Lils mentioned once,” she clarified. “I don’t think it was particularly cool, which is probably why my crafty mind kept it in reserve as a mark of abusive affection,” Marlene said with a smirk, tapping her head as if to indicate her intelligence. Marlene snorted. “Yeah, fuck—Hogwarts prefects these days,” she teased, shaking her head in mock-distress. “How the mighty have fallen.” In reality, she was super glad she had so many prefect friends—otherwise she would probably be in detention every single night, likely the same as James and Sirius.
"Second years are usually huge gits, hence the textbook defense. First years are the ones who drop their jaws to the floor if I acknowledge them," she said, giving a smirk with that. The smirk grew bigger when Marley admitted she had no idea what a muppet was. "For all you know it's like the biggest compliment in the world. Or something extremely negative!" she exclaimed with a laugh. "Then, as a prefect, no matter how poor, I would have to be angry at you for being rude to a fellow student!" she said, her voice teasing. Marley knew as well as Doe that the Slytherin girl would never actually get Marley in any trouble. As they came upon the pitch, Doe grinned at Marley. "Now, enough about my obvious dereliction of duties. I'm going to go to the Slytherin locker room and get changed," she said, before slipping away.
The dull tone with which the girl spoke was quickly beginning to grate on Narcissa’s nerves, causing her annoyance to show bright as day on her features. “Do I look like Slughorn’s keeper?” she asked, arching an eyebrow at the other. “He’s probably off filling that fat belly of his. You could try the kitchens, if you’re not opposed to rubbing elbows with the vermin in there.”
Doe bit her own tongue, for once not speaking before she had time to adequately think about her response options. Turning to look at the girl, she gave her that signature Doe smirk that could mean so many things. "Two things," she said, bored tone gone, "One, Slughorn is a professor, so I'm going to assume he actually gets his food delivered to him. Two, the vermin are the reason you stay fed, I'd be careful what you say about them," Doe remarked, before closing a text book and rolling up the scroll she had been writing her ancient runes essay on. "Although, I do agree the man his hopelessly fat," she finished, motioning to Narcissa as if to conceed to that point.
