Glow in the dark resin pixel hearts ^_^
Frankie ooak repaint. Finally! Finished the first repaint I started. I battled with this one because the eyes kept pissing me off so eventually I decided on closed eyes but even that wasn't looking right. After some trial and error I finally settled on a look I'm mildly okay with. I mean I'm still not super happy but it got to a point where I wasn't going to waste another acetone covered q-tip and another coat of MSC to re-do it. In the future my repaints will have resin eyes I just need to perfect you know...cutting out the eye holes. So anyway here is Laphicet her name actually comes from a male character in a video game, not one I was playing but one I was watching, and I just really loved the name. Her stitches have been sanded off along with the "panties". Her bod is blushed with chalk pastel and her freckles and most of her details are done with watercolor pencils. She has water decal tattoos along with a few small ones I drew myself on her arms and knuckles. Her "hair" is a cute buzzed look I did with maroon flocking powder but the problem is that it tends to attract fuzz so I went with making a wig as well. The wig cap was made with cheese cloth and mod podge (might do a little DIY on this later) and the "hair" is 100% acrylic yarn. Originally she was going to have dreads but after the first weft I decided I liked how it looked as is so she will have a few baby dreads underneath. I used some jump rings to add a couple cute little accents to a braid in her hair. I may cut it a smidge shorter but other than that it'll stay the same. The only thing I haven't done yet is do a last seal on the eyes and use a gloss glaze on her lips. I have to find something cute to ship dolls in so when I find this she'll be ready to go and she will come bubble wrapped with her wig wrapped separate. She'll come with a stand and a little info card. More than likely she will come nude unless I decide to sew some panties and a little harness thing. In the future repaints will come with a little outfit or at the very least some little underwear I just gotta get the right material. So that's it. Be kind I know she's not perfect but she's the first I finished and I love her ^_^
Working on poison apple ornaments. Trying to get them all done so people can start buying but they take soooo loonngg and take sooo many glue sticks. Still I quite like how they turn out. This one is just a WIP though it's not finished.
how to make wings!
due to the popularity of the wings post i did i made a tutorial on how i make these :>
i will show you how to make something like this (this method can be applied to all sorts of wings so don’t click away!) :
they can be used as wings for your doll or as the ones i made for this tutorial for a costume (these will go on a dolls head )
I've been needing a tutorial like this I can't wait to try today!
I finally got around to turning my Nuka Cola magnets into pins for my vest and I even made a nifty little "caps stash" container out of an Altoids tin to hold all my pins in. Only problem is now I can't find my vest 0_0
Success! The cheese cloth worked great its sturdy but still flexible. Now to comb out a bunch of yarn...and make wefts 0_0
Today has been terrible but I found a Skelita on Amazon for twenty bucks and she is on her way to meee! Also working on a wig cap. Not sure how it will turn out as I'm using cheese cloth. I have plenty of different fabrics but they're all so cute I didn't really want to spare any for wig cap making so fingers crossed that cheese cloth will work just as well. I think I'm on the fourth coat of mod podge waiting to dry. Seemed pretty sturdy already but just to be on the safe side I might add one more.
I've been slacking a bit with my doll repaints because I'm trying to make my own doll eyes. I'm still in the sculpting them from polymer clay stage trying to get the right sizes to mold. I do like how painted eyes look but I really prefer resin eyes especially if I can figure a way to make them changeable in a MH doll. What I need help with is how to get the eyes in a monster high head. I tried with one doll I had but I messed it all up. Does anyone have any tips or tutorials they can share with me? Preferably something that also shows the best way to cut out the eye holes as well as the best way to go about inserting them. Oh and while I am making different sizes because they'll be used in other projects besides this can someone tell me what size you use for the MH eyes? Thank yooouuu
Went to the craft store yesterday to piddle about and got this set of four key charms that came with fun little stickers and clear domes to put over them. I bought some silicone pourable mold maker a few days ago so I made a mold of one of the keys so I can make more in different colors but these two were kinda just testers. The first picture, same one on the right in the second picture, I used one of the stickers the kit came with but used UV resin instead of the little sticker domes. The other key it's kinda hard to see but I used my cat hole punch and cut two out of two different Halloween themed pieces of card stock, the left cat is black spider web and the right is orange candy corn, I put some different glitters in there as well and cured it again with UV resin. I thought if I put the glitter in first and then the cut outs on top it would work better but next time the glitter needs to be placed around after the resin is in so it doesn't float around. I like how they turned out though ^_^
@little-bee-and-nutmeg gave me this Draculaura with pen(?) stains on her face, so I had an attempt at removing them! Photo 0 is what she looked like before, and the rest were after that many days on the windowsill covered in pimple cream! The stains are totally gone now, so time to give her a faceup! I used clearacil ultra acne treatment cream rubbed onto the stains, washed off each night and reapplied each morning.
Whaaaaatt?!!! This is one of the best tips I've ever discovered. My daughter gives me dolls she doesn't want anymore or sometimes I'll trade her a new one for an old one of hers, perks of having a daughter, but she wants to do face ups too so she draws on them with pen and marker and we all know that's a stain that is def. a pain. Glad I found this.
She's so close to being done! I guess I need to start thinking up a good name and little story for her. Waiting on all the glue on her head to dry so I can go through and patch up any spots. I decided against trying to remove her head and re root her and I'm pretty glad I did cause this dark plumish color "buzzed" hair style is absolutely perfect for her. Also decided to give her closed eyes and have added some eyelashes that I need to trim. After that she'll just need a quick spray across the eyes, some eyeshadow adjusting and then the final seal and she'll be done!
The moment of frustration when you realize that a monster high dolls head is going to be a pain to put back on. The brief moment of happy satisfaction when you work and work and finally get it on there without breaking anything. The instant sick feeling right after the brief happiness when you realize you haven't re-rooted her head yet and have to take it back off so you can glue the hair on the inside. *rage table flip* Frankie (not keeping this name) may be getting a flocked shaved head instead. When I was putting her head back on I noticed the joint was looking a little worse for wear and I'm afraid if I try to pull her head back off even as gentle as I am it will snap. *sigh*
I didn't feel like retyping everything but yay Elle Eedee repaint HAPPENING!
My water transfer decals came in today!! I have a Frankie that's been sitting around waiting to be worked on but I've been waiting on these. They will be used as tattoos on several different repaint projects squeee!
Sooo I ordered a set of different colored flocking powders and I mean it was cheap but it took foreeevveer to come in and when I finally got it I realized it was less "powder" and more "this looks like someone took clumpy pocket lint and dyed it" the colors are pretty but it's not fine like I need it to be for my doll repaints. I did use one on my daughters nails and if I dump the whole pot out and scoop up the finer bits and carefully spread it out it does look good it's just tedious. So I remembered that when I cut the hair off a doll if it's not gross I keep it for future projects so I was like "hmm I wonder" and took little handfuls and started snipping the ends until I had a pile of very fine doll hair powder stuff haha. It's perfect for when I want to do shaved head looks or beards etc etc. So if you order flocking powder that sucks in a pinch chopped up doll hair will work just fine. I put Nova and Magnus aside for the time being because I've hit a wall with them. With Magnus his little crystal parts are looking more like insect eggs or something which I can probably re-work it so it works out but I have to take some time to do some sketching and planning. Nova is actually almost done I've even got her back story going like she's an alien from planet "insert planet name I haven't thought of yet here" which is mostly made up of ice which is why the inhabitants of this planet are blue in color. The ice, however, is melting rapidly and soon the entire planet will be made up of mostly water but her people can quickly adapt and evolve as the need arises so they are all beginning to grow patches of scales/gils/fins in preparation for this change. Of course this story still needs tweaking like why is the ice melting, planet name etc etc but you get the idea. I know I sound like an uber nerd but I would like to have each repaint to have a special story to go with them should they ever get sold. Anyway with her I'm stuck on what to do with her hair like should I make a wig, does she even need hair etc etc. there's also just something missing and I'm not sure what it is so I'm just going to put her on the back burner for a moment becauussee I finally got my hands on Elle Eedee! I've been wanting to repaint her for such a long time and I'm so excited to finally get to fix her up. I haven't cleaned her face up yet and I've started to cut her hair. She's going to have a little mohawky hair cut with either flicked sides or glittered sides..haven't decided yet. Anywho there's my long winded craft update ^_^
Just hanging out with the girls.
A little more progress on Magnus. Yes Magnus is his official name. Idk why it was just the first thing that came to mind. So I decided to try and give him eyes anyway. I got the eye holes as smooth as I could however I didn't cut them very well so they're still a bit rough but I think once his face up is complete it will look better. I applied one pink eye chip and one blue one using Apoxie Sculpt. Random fact: this was my very first time using apoxie sculpt and when I opened it I was surprised by the smell...it seriously smells like tortilla chips and bean dip 0_o Anyway I also fixed the other leg and put apoxie sculpt to the ends of both. It's still too sticky to work with so I'll smooth it out better later. He's had one layer of MSC, got his blushing, the starting of some black eyeliner, the start of his lips and then another layer of MSC. I don't want to do too much else till the apoxie sculpt hardens because I don't want to knock the eyes all wonky and have a hard time getting them back in place. So now we wait *sigh* I also think I lost the chunk of head I cut out in order to apply eyes...i cut all this before I even had eyes to put it so noowww I'm not sure where this piece went 0_0 Magnus may be getting an exposed brain too haha
