Day 5 of week 2 in LSAD

Last day of work experience in LIT , Friday is a half day so we did wonder what could we achieve in the morning without the evening to finish a project.

We were lead by tutor Paul in a digital photography class. After a tutorial about aperture and depth of field, lighting and staging, which was very clear to understand, he got us to stage items of various inocuous stuff!! We then took photos using filters such as coloured paper.

In the above pictures I used a magnifying glass and a projector screen for some images. These images are yet unedited which I hope to get around to on photoshop. The main lesson to take from this was to know how to creatively set a stage using props and light to achieve artistic results.

Day 4 of week 2 work experience in LSAD

Book Binding

This was a very interesting day of detail, accuracy and design elements all rolled into one.

We used our prints from the previous print making class to cover the books.

If you like accuracy and taking measurements then this is enjoyable and all in all the finished result was very satisfying.

These past two weeks I was lucky enough to enjoy work experience in LIT, LSAD , Limerick’s city Art college. I started my placement in Fashion knit and Textiles which was a relevation to me. To end it all nicely the well known historical @huntmuseum was hosting an exhibition of costumes from some recent movie releases and costumes from some well known Irish classics, it is well worth going to see. Day 3 of week 2 work experience in LIT

Print Department

We were in the print department all day Wednesday tutored by Des and Fiona.

We had more freedom to create and to move around in the workshop.

We first drew out our images on newspaper type paper which is very light, we inked up our Perspex plates and placed the paper over it to shadow the image to however we wanted it to look with heavy, light lines and shadow.

For The second part of the print we learned how to layer on color.

Day 2 of week 2

Line drawings with pencil and then marker.

Our tutor Des got us to move around the room switching easels to give us a varied perspective, I thought this worked very well.

I also spent time in the library checking out the Fashion knit textiles section.

Day 1 of week 2 in LIT

For our second week of work experience, it’s nice to be back with the class as a group all getting around the college together.

We started the first day in a Graphic Design class called Creative Pattern Design where we took photos of patterns within the college building.

We then began a process of drafting quick designs from a chosen pattern and eventually narrowed it down to two and then to one.

Day 5 work Experience

Pattern making class

It was really interesting to sit in on a practical today to understand the full process from choosing your textile, making the cloth and then cutting it to your pattern and sewing it all together!

Day 4 FASHION ELECTIVE

LSAD Fashion Department

So personally I really struggled with the news of having to go to the main Fashion elective in what Is considered main stream and high end world of Fashion as I’m not interested in fashion or what’s trending etc...

But when our course tutor Giordana was able to give us some time this morning, I could appreciate the design process behind fashion or basically anything you would wanna do, the skill of design is valuable and very transferrable.

She had my attention completely at this point

(because quite honestly I feel our work experience has been quite underwhelming so far)

So supringinsly!!!!! And this could be a once off fluke, once I began to look at the materials we were given by Giordana to work with and after she took the time to answer a (small) number of questions, I have more???!!...I stopped restricting myself with, oh god fashion!!🥵thoughts and began to take in the challenge of designing , luckily for me the theme to work around was flowers 💐🌹🌷

DAY 3 LSAD , LIT work Experience

Design , Design, Design

And Self Directed work are strong elements here as the slow continual creation of clothing is all deliberately chosen from the type of material, from which I’m discovering there’s many!! to the color, the feeling you want to convey, the shape you want to create , the finished product which is hopefully more sustainable than fast fashion.

I love to see how focused the work here in textiles is more about the ethical quality and durability of the finished garment.

Day 2 Class 2 of Professional Practice

Interesting stuff today from the 3rd year class students preparing applications for Internships literally they are considering different continents just for work placements.

London/ NewYork /Copenhagen and lastly Dublin

Each person has interests in different areas of design, fashion, costume, textiles
