Hanif Abdurraqib, They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us
being in love with the process and not the results is one of the healthiest things in the world
in this same vein: being proud of yourself for the work and not the product brings so much more happiness
Recovery is feeling like climbing a spiral staircase. It’s exhausting and I feel like I’m going in circles but I have to trust that I’m going up. Looking over the edge of the railing still gives me vertigo but my legs are getting stronger from the climb.

A manatee rescue that I follow responded to a call about a female manatee with two calves because one of her babies had been injured by a boat strike. The entire family was temporarily relocated from the wild into a wildlife rehab facility for the injured male calf to undergo treatment. While there, vets noted the female calf was significantly larger than the little injured male. They did genetic testing and determined that big sister calf actually wasn’t related to the other two manatees at all! She was in fact an orphan calf that the adult manatee had found and taken in to care for right alongside her own little one.
Wild to think this manatee calf was literally adopted and nobody would have ever known if it weren’t for random coincidence and human curiosity. Every animal that you cross paths with in life has a fascinating personal story that you’ll only ever catch a glimpse of (if you’re lucky).

i hate those posts that are like "what if your mother aborted you?" because it's LIKE. i value my mother as having her own agency above my existence simply because she came first. if she aborted me, id be fine with it because in the fucking hypothetical of un-existence & knowing, id rather her have access to safe abortion than having to carry & birth when she didn't want to like wtf kind of egotistical question is that. do u not value yr mother in the least. whatever joys you've gotten out of life aren't greater than yr mother's choice

It really bothers me the way male vs female rape victims are discussed. It’s considered way harder for men to come forward because it signifies a deeper loss of dignity. Do women not have dignity? Did it never occur to anyone that women are whole human beings also capable of feeling diminished/humiliated? Is the violation of our bodies so commonplace that our shame means nothing?
Diminished/humiliated - men have a special word for that when it happens to them, ‘emasculated’, but it’s just how women are meant to be! Femininity itself is ritualised humiliation.
Emasculated? or Feminized?
It’s all the same. The worst thing that can happen to a man is being lowered to the expected status of a woman.
“I don’t question how embarrassing it would be for a man to come forward and admit that a woman is abusing him. But don’t underestimate how humiliated a woman feels when she reveals abuse; women crave dignity just as much as men do. If shame stopped people from coming forward, no one would tell.”
- Lundy Bancroft, Why Does He Do That?
It's kind of fucked up how religious men view women as temptation. As something to be avoided in the same way that partaking too much in alcohol is to be avoided. Women aren't people, they're something put here to test the morality of men and bait them into evil. Men fully believe that the apple Eve ate was passed down in each woman's stomach, and their job, as men, is to correct Adam's mistake by not taking a bite of the apple that's being "offered" to them.
the worst thing in the world is doing things. the second worst thing in the world is not doing things. how has no one ever come up with a solution for this
