thoughts on the degrassi reboot?

I have so many!

While I’m excited to see Degrassi be reborn, I’m super anxious about both the platform and the content.

It immediately said degrassi’s new class of students, which means brand new characters we’ve never seen before. Nothing is confirmed about bringing back any original characters

And it’s on HBOMax which could easily mean darker or heavier content (i.e. Euphoria) than were used to. Also the original creators are no longer involved, and they knew degrassi the absolute best.

10 episodes, one hour long, is exciting, but I’m hoping it’s better than when Next Class did 10 episode seasons and there wasn’t much time for proper arcs like in classic degrassi when we had like 24-40 episode seasons.

But so I’m not being entirely negative, I’m excited as hell about the possibilities! I’m excited to see what they do with the school, find out how many characters were gonna get to see grow, see if they’ll bring back Mr. Simpson (if they don’t I’ll fucking riot), and the theme song.

Over all, I’m thrilled that degrassi is coming back, but we all have to go into it with an open mind. This might not feel like the degrassi were used to, but I’m excited to see what happens.
