Below is a rant about the symbolism of this piece if you want to read! (Also if you think of more symbolism pls tell me!)

A lot of this symbolism is shown in game as well, like Dutch having so much jewelry and also him wearing fancier clothes compared to the rest of the camp showing the difference in power. In this piece though his jewelry is facing towards the viewer, showing how he has more power than the viewer/gang and also showing how contradictory he is when he is talking about the gang always needing more money while he is practically wearing it.

Dutch is also sitting on a throne, which showcases he has more comfort than the viewer/gang, as it is velvet and plush and everything that a ruler needs to sit and view/criticize those below him. The throne being made from gold could show his arrogance as everyone in the gang is meant to be equals and they are viewed as equals by the law kinda, and him being sat on a gold throne shows how he thinks that he is above the gang even though it is in vein as he still has as much worth as the rest of the gang in the eyes of everyone else.

The colour red is also used a lot in game for symbolism, typically shown as evil, violence, hate but also can show how evil has captured a person (in the way that Hosea, while wearing mostly blue, has a red neckerchief). Dutch is surrounded by this colour, sat atop it, he is evil, but he doesn't actually present with red, only having a red pocket square, to show while he is evil, this is not how others see him (for a while). His light crown is also tainted with red at the ends showing how he is slowly delving deeper into madness and it being brighter near his head again showing how people haven't noticed yet.

Another thing is Dutchs positioning, his legs are crossed, more secretive and closed off, not letting people see his true nature and, kinda showing how he thinks only of himself not others, while his arms are open giving the illusion that he is open and that he is on the same level as the rest of the gang. He is also holding the gun loosely, but still ready to aim and shoot at whoever defies him.

The panther next to him represents Dutch himself, a deadly beast who on the outside seems soft and approachable (so cute and cuddly!) but will not hesitate to use its nature to rip you apart with no remorse. Also its light crown being pure/untarnished because beasts do not have honor so there is no honor to lose.

Ngl I struggled so hard on so much of this drawing... I just gave up on a lot of parts 😭 mainly the background (my worst enemy) the lighting cause I didn't really know how to get my vision across, but also like all the lineart on John so sorry it's not that accurate :(

I spent so long on this but also I am sooo proud of myself (I'm so bad at drawing backgrounds bruh) (nearly 11 hours in total and 4 of them were spent on the background 😭)
