So, Peter had confidence, did he? That was cute. Remy could be a bottomless pit when he truly wanted to be. However, Peter did look like he could beat him in this particular friendly show of rivalry. Not to say that he was hefty or anything. He was just a big, built man who looked like he could easily take down Remy. If the thief wasn’t so confident in his abilities to be such a slippery snake he would often find himself intimidated by Starlord, but that just wasn’t the case. Peter would have to catch him first before he could use those muscles on him.

Eventually he managed to drag his newest compadre with him over to those delicious smelling food stands and promptly released his grip on the other. He didn’t want the space pirate getting any ideas about him needing to be clingy. They had a fling, they had fun, that was it. Remy was doing his best to keep that line drawn in the sand and not cross it. Well, not cross it while sober anyway. After all, Peter was his only friend here, or at least he was for now. He had to keep things from getting weird.

“Well, look at that, mon ami. We got ourselves a selection. What are ya thinkin’ of giving a lil’ taste test first? I got my eyes set on the strawberries and cream cakes.”

kara had been trying hard at a corn hole toss game at the carnival, trying to calculate the perfect shot in order to win at the game. unfortunately, it wasn’t working in her favor as she miscalculated, yet again, and missed the hole. she grunted out of frustration before getting the tiny bean bags from where she missed once again and looked at the other that she had spotted. “how are you supposed to win this game?”

A carnival was one of the least likely places you’d think to find Connor, and yet here he was. The android wasn’t here for fun and games, however. He had been on the search for whoever, or whatever it was that was terrorizing the town. Perhaps there weren’t any deviants that he could sense, but at least he could put his time into something helpful. He was observing the game booths when woman spoke directly to him. Connor wasn’t programmed with the ability to ignore another’s interactions so he had no choice but to engage in the conversation, despite being busy with his current investigation.

“How are you suppose to throw the object precisely through the presented opening? Well, it would seem the simplest way to achieve this would be to calculate the trajectory and release your grip at the exact moment. Allow me to demonstrate,” he spoke so articulately as he stepped closer so that he might grab one of the colorful beanbags. His mechanical mind began to align him, steady him, and with a single toss he perfectly sunk the bean bag in the hole.

Peter isn’t sure how he managed to drag Remy with him to the festivities, but he’s grateful. He really didn’t want to show up alone, especially considering how few people he knows around here. The place really is hoppin, and it reminds Peter of some of the county faires and carnivals he attended as a child, all the fried food and shitty games you could imagine.

It’d be rather nostalgic if it weren’t for the mysterious circumstances surrounding Hudson Lake in general. Instead it’s almost..eerie, but Peter decides to make the best of it. What else can he do?

“So, what ya wanna do first?” Peter asks his companion, nudging Remy playfully with his elbow as they walk. He scans the various stalls on either side of them, scanning for things of particular interest. “Ooh, I see alcohol. That’s always a good start.” He chuckles, pointing towards a beer stand.

“Beer and funnel cake? Wanna be classy with me?” He winks, chuckling softly.

It came as a complete surprise to the mutant when Peter asked him to come along to the carnival that rolled into town. He had assumed that they would have just met up there eventually anyway, so the formal question was laughable to him. Still, he agreed- after a quick chuckle, of course- and together they went. As far as he was concerned it was as buddies. One good pal hanging out with the other good pal.

Remy was still trying to wrap his head around the fact that somehow, against all odds, that damn carnival managed to slip passed the barrier and into the town. Did this mean that the curse only affected those who woke up here randomly, or is this part of the towns wild bullshit? Either way, the man thought it was best to be on his toes.

“Oh, what do I wanna do? Yer such a gentleman, Quill. Let’s see...” he hummed while stroking the scruff on his chin for dramatic effect. He really needed to trip. He refused to sport a full length goatee.

“Ooooh, beer and funnel cake. Let us place a bet. Guarantee that I could scarf down more of those cakes than ya. What’cha say?” He loved a bit of gambling, and soon Peter would learn all about that. He was a risky man. That being said he grabbed hold of Peter’s shirt, already starting to drag him behind as he parted the crowed, weaving in and out of folks on a beeline for what he thought was the concession stands.

“Is this decaf? I thought I asked for a straight black coffee,” Luther mutter to himself as he lifted the mug back up for another taste. Yeah, this definitely wasn’t the blend he had asked for. Certainly wasn’t as good as how his mom brewed it either. Weird little moments like this actually made him realize how luck he was to have her in his life. He’d be damned before ever admitting to something like that though.

The much-larger-than-average man stood from his seat at one of the little cafe tables and headed to the counter to fix this simple mistake. It’s nothing that couldn’t be mended with a quick switch, right? He politely waited at the counter, watching the baristas talking to each other. He waited until he was addressed, but that never happened. He even tried clearing his throat to grab their attention. He just wanted his coffee.

Morgan didn’t know why she felt sad when he didn’t recognize her. After all, he couldn’t be more than just a child to him, judging by how old he looked, so she couldn’t expect him to know who she was on sight. As far as he could tell, she was just a girl who maybe shared a slight physical resemblance to Tony Stark, but not enough to realize it just by looking at her. If you put her in front of a cheeseburger or a piece of tech, however, that was when the resemblance really shined through. Right now, though, she could have been anyone.

“Yeah, just like EDITH. Built him myself.” She pressed her lips together before lifting her watch back up to her face. “Hey ANT, say hi to Peter.” The AI responded with, “Hey, Spider Boy.” which caused her to let out a deflated chuckle. She couldn’t believe how well she nailed her dad’s personality.

At her questions, she took in a deep breath. She was ready to explain everything, but whether he would believe her or not was another story. “Yeah, uh, I work for Stark Industries. I kinda… I kinda run it?” She replied, smiling softly. “I inherited it from my dad’s will as soon as I became old enough to run it… It’s me, Pete. Morgan.” She smiled, spreading her arms out in a sort of “taa-daa” stance. “God, trust me, I’ve tried to get home, or even just get ahold of Happy to make sure everything was okay, but all I’ve gotten is a heaping pile of nothing.”

She could have been anyone, but this girl was Morgan Stark. The daughter of one of Peter’s most beloved idols and mentors. Surely he should have recognized her regardless of seven to ten years passing by. Maybe he was just caught up in the moment, though. The initial shock of believing Tony was alive and well only to have it ripped away seconds later still had the boy a bit frazzled. He was coming out of that now. Especially when he began to take notice of how intelligent this woman was. She seemed so clever. Not just in the casual compliment sort of way. She created this little machine that could replicate Tony so well. In fact, it was so hauntingly accurate that when she asked it to say hello it moved Peter’s entire being.

“W-wow,” he spoke up to try and shake the silence out of the bitter cold air. He didn’t want the girl to feel as though he wasn’t impressed. The emotional impact it had was unexpected and violent, but Peter managed to hold himself together. He wasn’t going to cry in front of a girl. He didn’t even know what came over him next. If anyone asked he would say it was a sad attempt to fill that momentary void between them. “Hey there, Mr. Stark.”

Morgan couldn’t have explained it better. Peter might have been a touch skeptical, or at least in denial of the wacky dimensional time skip that was going on right now. Could you have blamed him for that though? How would you react if you were plopped into an unfamiliar place only to find somebody you saw a few weeks ago as a tiny tot turn into... somebody entirely new? She was slow, though. Delicate in every way with how she unfolded the truth and it allowed Peter to make the connections himself before she confirmed his assumptions. She even did the little ‘taa-daa’ gesture like she would when she was a child. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind now that his was Morgan.

“H-hey, don’t say that. C’mon, that’s still amazing, and it could be the key to figuring all this out. Y-you’re... you got big. You got smart,” he smiled but there was a sadness in his eyes that was placed there when he came to realize he missed everything. “Has it been doing any scans of the area or tapping into any wifi spots to gather details on where the heck we are? What can this thing do?” He tried so hard to be peppy right now as he stepped closer, visibly letting his guard down. “Have you been here all by yourself? How long exactly are we talking?”

Morgan had been hoping to see Peter more than anyone, besides her mother. After all, he was practically like her big brother, and was always a shoulder to cry on while she was growing up. He saw her at her best times and worst times, which made him extremely important to her. So, hearing his voice made her head snap up she turned to him with a wide smile on her face. It faded, however, when she saw his face. It was still Peter, that much was clear, but he was young. He had to be her age, maybe a little younger, which caused her to take a step back. The Peter she knew was in his mid-thirties, not late teens. His reaction caused her to shake her head, suddenly feeling an overwhelming sadness.

“Peter, no, he’s…” Still dead, and probably always would be. That is, unless she can somehow build a way to resurrect the dead. “It’s my A.I. You know, like EDITH? His name is ANT, and I compiled his voice from all of the interviews and stuff I could find online. He’s got his personality and everything, but he’s… He’s artificial.” Saying those words almost brought tears to her eyes. She sometimes liked to pretend that it really was her dad on the other end, but at the end of the day, she knew it wasn’t.

She knew him? Weird, because he didn’t recognize her, and Peter tended not to forget his friends. Friends being anybody he tended to share his name with. He wasn’t a picky guy when it came to his buddies. She seemed so sincere with every word, like she was trying to break it to his as gently as possible. He would have appreciated that too if the shell shock of what they had just said wasn’t so prevalent. Tony was dead- that was a vague memory. Why had he seemed to forget up until this moment. It was almost as if hearing his voice momentarily wiped away any painful fragments that had been left in his mind about that terrible moment in his life.

“Artificial- just like EDITH, huh?” he mimicked the words back carefully, as if trying to piece them together like a puzzle. He understood, but he tried to convince himself that her words were true. He wanted so badly to reach out and try to speak into the device, but Peter refrained. Although he was still baffled by who this girl was and why she knew so much about Tony Stalk he took a few steps closer to get a better look at not only the device, but at her as well.

“Help me out here, please. You seem to know me but- it’s not my fault. This place is all messed up, and I’m not even sure if I know who I am anymore by this point, you know? Do you work for Stark Industries? Do you know how to get out of here or... I can’t get home.” He didn’t mean to plead the way he did, but he was running out of options. He was still just a kid at this point in time, and he had been trying to decipher whatever curse this seemed to be for a while now with no luck. “Who are you?”

Morgan was still determined to find her way home, or at least get in contact with someone to make sure everything was okay. She’d built her A.I. to make communication easier, among other things, and added her father’s voice to it as a littler personal touch. So, when she brought her watch to her face and asked, “Any luck yet, A.N.T?” Her father’s voice replied with, “Not yet, kid. Sorry.” She clenched her jaw in frustration. “Damn it.” She was too distracted to notice that a familiar face was standing only a few feet away.

Peter had been trying to wrap his brain around the events taking place in this town and how that tied in with why he was here in the first place. There had to be some type of connection, right? A reason for why he and a handful of others as far as he knew had been transported to this inescapable dimension. He thought he was alone, though. No familiar shoulder to lean on. At least, he thought this was the case until he heard it. It was distant but it had Peter’s feet moving faster than when you walk on hot sand. The source was coming from a girl, someone who he honestly didn’t recognize. From his place in the timeline Morgan had been just a little girl, so the connection couldn’t be made. That voice, though? His voice? Peter knew very well and he clung to it like it was the last shred of hope he could find.

“W-where did you get that? Who is that? Is that-... are you on a call with them?” His words were so shaken. Just as they should be given the circumstances. If there was any chance that Tony was on the other line he wanted so desperately to talk to him, to ask if he could help figure out a way for Peter to get home to see his aunt.

It’s become a bit of a nightly tradition at this point, Peter meeting up with his friend Remy. They’d become friends solely through their mutual penchant for a beer after work, and things have evolved a bit over the past few weeks. Remy is…different, very much so. Different from anyone Peter has ever known. But he likes that. It’s exciting, a bit of an adrenaline rush that he can’t entirely explain but doesn’t want to lose. Remy is…a flirt. It’s a natural part of his personailty, and Peter has come to accept that. There’s a bit of curiosity present on his part if Peter was being completely honest with himself..but thus far he’s just shrugged off the other man’s casual advances and tried to play it cool. He’s in a bit of an adventurous mood tonight, though…who knows what might happen. He saunters into the bar with his easy swagger, spotting Remy at his usual spot front-and-center at the bartop. Remy likes to have easy access to the person pouring his drinks. When Peter comes up beside the other man, he pats his shoulder affectionately, nodding at the bartender and ordering the usual, a jack and coke. “Evening, pal.” Peter greets, plopping down on his stool. “What’s the story for today?” He raises a brow, knowing Remy always has some crazy tale to share with him from his workday on the street.

𝑹𝒆𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒈𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒃𝒊𝒕 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒓 than most days. Why was that? Well, there had been a little bit of a run in with this ill-tempered brute who was making claims that the magician stole his watch. He tried to play it off as a simple means of diversion- a trick of the eye really. He had every means to give it back, or so he’d claimed. When things had gotten a little too heated for him there was a very convenient explosion that erupted from the fire hydrant across the street. Things like this didn’t happen everyday in the town of Hudson Lake, and so it was the perfect distraction for Remy to gather up his little props and skedaddle his way out of that awkward situation. The real trick was having snagged the idiot’s watch back while he was watching the firemen roll up to put a stop to the geyser of a hydrant.

So here he sat, unwinding from today’s events. When the weight of a hand pressed down on his shoulder he didn’t even need to turn his head to know who it was. His good ol’ drinking buddy. At least this place had some people in it that weren’t a complete stick in the mud. Peter Quill was one such man who really kept him on his toes, and further more, he was fun to pester and harrass. Though, if Remy didn’t know any better he was starting to suspect Quill enjoyed it. Just another victim of the old Remy LeBeau charm.

“Hm, today I had a very generous tip from a volunteer. Must have really dazzled them with my mystical ways,” he gave a wily smirk as he sloshed his whiskey around in that bucket of his before tipping it back. The burn was always his favorite part, and yet by this point the alcohol lost it’s sting, and most of it’s taste which made downing it all the easier. “Then he started gettin’ all rough with me. Real rascal, he was. Had to go and pull out my parlor tricks,” he tipped his head towards Peter, as if speaking a silent ‘you know the ones’.

“What ‘bout you, mon ami? Any rowdy kids givin’ you a hard time in class today?”

“𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐔𝐏, Stayin’ Alive, by the Bee Gees, ‘cause what says getting hunted by a psycho killer better than that?” A lazy drop of his hand and the mic’s turned off. His shoulders visibly deflate just before he rocked back into his swivel chair, yanking the headphones down to leave behind a disheveled mess of hair. Yeah, he knows he wasn’t a music station. Hell, he doesn’t even know if they had the rights to that song. Not that anything really made any damn sense here. But although Richie might claim the deaths left him indifferent, it irked a part of his brain, the one at the very back that should be kept under lock and key lest he wanted to taste bile. He hadn’t even noticed a figure standing beneath the doorframe, causing him to jolt, “Ho–ly shit.” Readjusting himself when he noticed the way he’d been gripping the armrests, he turned to the other, “You normally watch people from doorways Jason-style or am I just special?”

𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 that a smart mouthed little four-eyes was bopping around town. Maybe it was a long shot, but that simple description gave Ben hope that he might have a familiar face around. Sure, maybe it wasn’t his favorite face, but it would help him get a grip on things. After all, how many Richie Toziers were there in the world. Especially those who were annoying enough to have a town muttering about them on the streets. Even walking down the linoleum lined halls of this building he could hear a familiar voice. He didn’t even need to lay eyes on the loser to know who exactly it was and there was a cascading waterfall of relief that washed over him. He wasn’t alone. Not anymore. Not like [ b e f o r e ].

He stepped up to the doorway that was no doubt left open so that Richie could be extra obnoxious to everyone else in the building. It didn’t seem to have the intended affect on Benjamin, though. Instead he felt his lips tugging into a taunt smile, and maybe he got a little bit teary-eyed but could you blame the guy? He thought he was dropped in the middle of nowhere with nothing even remotely familiar. He was about to speak up too when Richie spotted him and sent them both into a moment of panic. After all, he wasn’t expecting that sort of reaction and it momentarily stopped Ben’s heart.

“Jesus, it’s me! It’s me, dude. Look,” he spoke up, stepping out of the dimly lit hallway so that the light in the room could help Richie recognize. Maybe he might not even recall him right away. He had continued to lose weight after they had all parted ways after high school. “It’s Ben.”

𝐀 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐂𝐄 was affixed to his face, watching the victims still hang from the statue, unmoving, save for the occasional and faint 𝘚𝘞𝘈𝘠, like a lame pendulum. It could be argued that Nathan looked more disgusted than distressed though. More can be said for most of the crowd that was growing around the base of what was now basically a crime scene. Swallowing thickly, he directed indiscriminately to his right, “So I’m guessin’ the bit about killin’ us wasn’t a prank, then?” It’s then that his sights snagged on a slip of paper that lay by the base of the statue. Nathan carefully avoided the rapidly collecting puddle of blood to pluck it up, revealing, not the killer’s note, but.. “On the bright side, one of ‘em dropped a coupon for twenty percent off your next yoga class–!”

𝑷𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒈𝒐 𝒔𝒏𝒊𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔 on account of his weak stomach for such tragedies, but to his knowledge it was only a calling card. The whispers he had heard didn’t exactly go into detail about how gruesome said calling card actually was. Had the boy known he may have kept his distance, for what could he do to save somebody who had already fell victim to his maniac? In this situation he was [ u s e l e s s ]. This place was torture. Not knowing where you stood, while also feeling an innate call to step up and do your part made Peter a bundle of nerves constantly. Well, almost constantly. There were moments when he put his own distressing thoughts of being lost aside and focused on comforting others. Saving others.

The crowd was growing, and so were the whispers. One voice in particular stood out among the group. A melodic little accent that Peter would have guessed belonged somewhere in the U.K. His chocolate eyes tried to subtly scan off to his right, just to see if he could pinpoint the chipper tone’s source. That was the first time he laid his eyes on Nathan Young and somehow, he felt confused. This man was making light of such a travesty, and Peter just couldn’t grasp why. He wanted to wrinkle his nose in disgust at the other’s mannerism but- why would he? He didn’t understand where it was coming from, so how could he judge him? He turned his eyes back towards the definite crime scene, wondering when police would finally arrive to set up some boundries. Just as Peter thought this though it seemed this ill humored man was waltzing right up to the damn bodies.

Peter’s entire body went ridged with anxiety. He shouldn’t touch them! He shouldn’t even approach, and yet this stranger was. Peter, being one to jump at any given opportunity to do some good, stepped forward from the crowed. Sure, he muttered a few apologies as he pushed his way through, but eventually he broke through a wall of people and just in time to see the older boy hold up a coupon. “Dude, that’s not-... you don’t know if that’s evidence or what.” Sure, it probably wasn’t, but what if? He didn’t mean to call him out in front of all these people. In fact, he would have preferred not to, yet here they were. Two boys standing dangerously close to some dead bodies while the police were on their way hopefully.
