Why Facebook + Instagram is good news
The Facebook + Instagram deal is a movie in which Facebook has been cast as the pantomime villain, the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang out to steal the innocence of the Instagram kids.
But we disagree. If this is a movie, it’s closer to the plot of The Fighter; in which the washed-up veteran helps train the younger sibling to become world champion.
A better analogy of the deal, certainly, bar the washed up part. Facebook is the current champ and shows no signs of being toppled any time soon.
So let’s take a breath, distil the sense from the madness, and discuss why Facebook + Instagram is good news.

Where will you do your sale shopping this year? Do you see shopping as a social experience, either on or offline?
Heineken launch digital Christmas tree
Heineken, long-time pioneers of digital signage, have launched a Facebook campaign where fans can send a Christmas message to their friends to a Christmas tree made up of digital screens for all to see.
We loved Heineken's Champions League social map ad, which visualised where people were tweeting about the game, so it'll be interesting to see how this pans out.
We predict big things for digital signage in 2012 and joining this up with social media is just one of the examples of how it could be huge.

Sounds too good to be true...
Packaging gets social
Heinz have launched a brilliant campaign tying in their packaging with a social media campaign where you can buy and send a personalised 'Get well soon' can of soup to a friend using Facebook.

Mobile only access accounts for 18% of web traffic
New Media Age have reported that 18% of people browsing the web only ever do it via mobile devices.
The trend for mobile-only useage is on the up. The release of Apple's iPhone 4S (and it's sizeable price point...) could indicate that Apple are seeing that more people will invest in their mobile device than their laptop or desktop computer.
But with the recent BlackBerry outage, is going mobile really reliable enough to ditch the desktop completely? What do you think?
