Unfortunately, there wonât be lights appearing on my birthday (although there should be), but I do finally understand what Rapunzel must have felt while singing in her tower. For years I have always wondered: âWhen will my life begin?â I felt like everyone around me was having adventures and putting themselves out there. While I dreamed and dreamed about all of the things I would do in college, in my twenties, and so on. I felt like I could not make any of that happen. I was stuck in the wretched cycle of dreaming but never doing.Â
   Well, I finally did it. After a couple years of talking about it, researching it, following countless of blogs and vlogs and any other source of media, I finally did it. I applied to the Disney College Program (on a whim might I add). It has been hard to put into words what this means to me. Especially when friends and colleagues always ask, âDoes this help you for the real world?â âIs it an actual internship?â âSo.. youâre basically taking a semester off?â No, it is not your typical internship that my fellow friends are getting at places like the Big Four Accounting Firms or even Start-Ups in California.. and no I wonât be working in an office setting which mightâve been good for my major.. but I will be taking one of the biggest adventures I have ever gone on. Something that will help me improve some personal skills as well as professional skills, while working for a company that has always made me feel at home.Â
   I got accepted on March 11th at 12:09 pm which was two days after my phone interview on March 9th. I was not expecting an e-mail so soon, especially not at work. I work at the cafes at my University as a manager, and while I was helping out one of our Clean & Stockers with stocking a shipment in the back room, my phone buzzed. At that point, my heart had already begun to race at a mile a minute - It had been doing that whenever my phone buzzed. But, while I was picking up boxes and organizing them I decided to be a good employee and continue at my job. Walking back up to the front of the cafe and taking place behind the counter I had forgotten all about the distant phone buzz. As my shift was coming to a close about an hour later I finally checked my phone. There on the screen was not the usual Tangled background of Rapunzel and Flynn (Eugene), instead an e-mail icon with the user [email protected] I can tell you for a fact, that everyone in that cafe knew what was happening at that very moment.Â
   It has only been a week since my acceptance e-mail and my roommates and friends can attest to the fact that I have not stopped talking about it. Every time I sit down to try and study business law terms or corporate social responsibility, I end up looking up Disney blogs, being on the Facebook page, or even looking up Disney tattoos (hereâs to hoping I donât get one on the program - no promises). With the stress of midterms and being in the process of switching my major and figuring out what I want to do in life, I find solace in the fact that in a couple months I will be where I belong, I will be where my life will finally begin.Â
   It sounds weird doesnât it? So your life will âbeginâ once you start slaving away for a Fortune 500 company that monopolizes a lot of industries? Well, yeah. This has been one of the biggest steps I have taken since applying and moving away for college. I will be completely on my own, not seeing my family on weekends, for five months. I will be living in a new state for the first time and will be working more hours in one week than I ever have before. This will be a whole new adventure for me (cue A Whole New World song), and something I will be experiencing not only independently but with people all over the world.Â
   So, in about five months I will be working for the Mouse himself, ready to join me on my adventure?Â
