between second and third cigarettes ajar bathroom doors night-fallen linens have you noticed the heat emerging? stay cold on winter nights in the hours before what is real it is still warm all around ignition no longer a far out cry burning against wind-chilled shoulders a weakening ember resting upon a pursed lip there is something alive that was swallowed long ago clawing to the warmth when you are here it has been starved but blood will always smell like blood and so it will erupt from the chest to find something warm and alive to continue to siphon the heat from
