The Ramblings of a Gaming Nerd

"The 'b' is for 'bargain!'" The title pretty much describes what this is. ;) I will ramble about games, Japan, Doctor Who, The Simpsons (seasons 2-13ish), movies...pretty much whatever I feel like. Amazing animes are: Fullmetal Alchemist (both of them), Samurai Champloo, Death Note, and Cromartie High is pretty funny. I love Japan so much that I actually want to live there. Forever. I have a 5 year plan that involves me working in the game industry and transferring over to Japan. I have lived in Japan for 1 year while I went to school at Keio University studying Japanese. I currently work in the game industry. Is it "games industry," or "game industry"? Or "gaming industry"? I dunno. Let's go with "video game industry." I live and work in Redmond Washington as an Xbox 360 Software Test Lead.

I just found out, at the age of 23, that "Liam" is short for "William." I wish sooooo badly that I had known that 20 years ago. How different would my life have turned out if I went by "Liam"? Just think of the possibilities!!

I miss school

I really miss school. I love learning. Having started my career, I'm now discovering a lot of new things that I am really getting into. I miss the days where I was able to make learning my full-time occupation. It's somewhat ironic because when I was at the UW, all I wanted was to be done with school and start my career. Now I wish I could go back and devote all my time to learning. I want to learn new languages - both digital and colloquial - I want to study music, and I want to learn about business development (it's quite a melange, I know). It's one thing to hit up self-study sites, but I miss the classroom experience. Maybe I'm just idealizing my university days, but I definitely miss it.

Rants!

All I want to do is use the remote play function on my PSP so that I can watch Frasier episodes that are stored on my PS3 from the comfort of my bed before I go to sleep. EVERY TIME I boot up my PSP, it requires a system update. I cannot use remote play without the latest firmware update. Typically, my PSP is low in battery power when I use it because I don't use it often. I can't APPLY the system update while it has low battery power EVEN while it is plugged in. Why must you release so many system updates? Why do I have to update to use Remote Play? Why can't I apply the update while it's plugged in? Why, Sony, WHY!?

I love Excel, and I don’t even understand it all. I used it for 6 years straight every day when I worked at world vision.

This is so lame. I can program excel spreadsheets and automate tasks like a bad-ass, but Tumblr(!) never seems to do what I want it to do. WHY DO ALL MY GIFS UPLOAD AS LIFELESS PICTURES!?

1 hour traffic + 9 hours work + 1.5 hours traffic + .5 hours buying new shoes + 3 hours more work at home = days blurring together. :( I need to hurry up and just have 1 job with no traffic again. :/
