I've had this image saved on my phone for an extraordinary amount of time and I don't actually remember who drew it or where it came from.
The filename is a tumblr address but... I have no idea where it came from.
Google Images and Tineye give me nothing.
I know it's from MJBYY and I've had it as my Gboard background for years, but I don't remember when I downloaded it.
The last modified was July 25th, 2017. That's when I transferred it to my old Xperia using a kinda janky and shitty file browser that'd edit files slightly when transferring them, so that date isn't entirely useful.

The proportions are exactly the same. Any tiny difference is because it’s difficult for me to grow or shrink his drawing to be the exact same pixel by pixel size as the ref.
The clothes are exactly the same (tie, collar, pants, shoes), except he removed the blazer because natsuno doesn’t wear one, and he made a mistake and forgot to trace part of the collar, so the collar on his traced drawing doesn’t actually make sense.
Each Penguin Parade petanko strap is a similar style and pose, but there are obvious differences between them that make them each unique and impossible to perfectly overlap over each other. A major difference is the eye style, which tends to match the style of the anime itself.
When you reference a drawing and try to copy the pose, it doesn’t overlap perfectly like his traced one does. Especially considering he is claiming that he didn’t even reference the Angel Beats Noda petanko.
He sent me this screencap. I’m not sure why you two are acting like a sai file can’t be edited. There’s no reason for this to be evidence for anything.
He claims to have referenced the Yuri Katsuki petanko for the pose, but look at what happens when I try to overlap it with the Noda strap:
This is what happens when you overlap two different drawings in a similar pose and style, that have not been traced. You can’t perfectly overlap them. You can’t perfectly overlap Yurio’s face with Noda’s either.
But, again, look at what happens when we take the petanko Noda and overlap it with Natsunoyuuki’s drawing even though he claims he didn’t even ref it? EDIT: Here’s a different gif than in my last post, I tried again to resize the image:
Again, he’s saying he didn’t reference it at all. Which means every single similarity here is a coincidence, from the exact pose, facial expression and Angel Beats eye style, the positions of the fingers, the wiggles in the creases of the pants, the position of the tie, etc, etc.
"official merchandise style" aka tracing tho? if people are paying you, specify that you are tracing. You definitely traced the petanko style one from the Angel Beats Noda strap.
I’m not tracing, and I’m honestly not even familiar with the strap you’re saying I traced. Referencing a style and tracing are completely separate things. Not to mention, strap styles are pretty much universal so it’s not surprising that a style looks the same. That’s the whole point. Please consider that before accusing me of tracing. Thanks.

Actually, you traced it from the Angel Beats Noda strap. Here, I made a gif showing your art over it.
Notice how the face is exactly the same, the tie, the fingers, the exact wave in the pants, the shoes. You traced it.

holy moly it’s funny that I’m being messaged about this, because it means it’s had so few updates that my ask from last August still comes up on the first page LOL.
I would be thoroughly shocked if it ever came out, but I have no personal stake in the matter. I never gave money to the kickstarter myself, I was just pissed off on behalf of the people who did. I have a lot of opinions about how it’s all been handled, but it’s probably not worth getting into.

Right, so I remembered the other day that there is a Maritime Flag Language for sailors, and each flag has a different meaning, but when put together, they spell out a word. I have decided to figure out what it says.
Mkay so here’s the thing this center flag
does not exist so I can only assume that they are trying to mimic the first flag on the list? Also, the 4th one appears to be upside-down.
But what it says (if you assume it’s the first one) is Romeo-India-Alpha-Uniform-Kilo or RIAUK which, from detailed internet research, only seems to be a 43-year-old woman on a dating website I’ve never heard of. Since that is not a word, I am going to investigate into the ICS (International Code of Signal) flag meanings using Wikipedia.
So according to Wiki, it says
(Kay so Romeo doesn’t have an ICS meaning so we are off to a great start)- “I am altering my course to port.”- “I have a diver down; keep well clear at slow speed.” - “You are running into danger.”- “I wish to communicate with you.”
So what we can gather from this is that the creators/artist for the classic series Spongebob Squarepants have absolutely no idea what the Maritime Flag Language is.
