Annabeth Chase!

This started as a doodle but I'm really happy with how it turned out!! I like this design a lot more than last time I drew Annabeth so I think I'll keep it..at least the hair.

This is my OC Vel as a little kid (prob around 9) and her dad! She's a daughter of Aphrodite!

I have only drawn her dad once sooo I'm probably gonna change up how he looks. Also, my friends threw me a surprise bday party yesterday and one of them gave me really good markers which I'm using her:) right after coloring Vel I found a color that was more accurate to her skin tone lol.

Short awnser:No,because she wasn't in the space or timeframe where she'd be able to explore her self-identity enough at any point where she could achieve something as major as unlocking her actual gender and she's also poor so she'd have a hard time gaining means of medical transition anyway which she's concious enough to figure out so within the context of transfem Percy,that's a reason she represses her egg from cracking

Long awnser:No and that is part of why she's coded as a trans woman,not evidence against it.Percy's always had transfeminine undertones to her,down to the basic essentials of her character including even just her name,and a major aspect of it is her disallowment to exist outside of boxes made for men and people considered men and fighting to manage to do so nonstop and unhesitatingly no matter what situation she's currently in.She represents a lot of common experiences for transfems and one of them is forcing herself to live as a suicidal and otherwise unhappy man settling for at least being 'a good one' and she most likely dosen't even really register transition is even an option for her and that's another VERY regular thing tfems deal with and it's insensitive,cruel and potentially dangerous to ignore it,especially for younger people who might assume it applies irl too due to impressionability,which is Percy's target audience and therefore all the more relevant.The current Pjo timeline is also the perfect opportunity for Percy to begin her transition since she finally escaped the gods' narrative and she's with Annabeth Chase,who's shown heavy hints she's a lesbian and canonically dosen't find anything wrong with Percy's lack of maleness and ergo would be super supportive if she came out to her and someone safe to be romantically involved with as opposed to male immortals at fault for why Percy had to spend her childhood and teenagedom as a 'glorious male hero' she never wanted to be.Important to note almost every adult Pjo fan headcanons Percy had one-sided and often sexual crushes on them and ignores Annabeth's crush on Luke Castellan was basically comphet to act like there's no way she isn't into men yet flies off the handle at or makes fun of notions Percy could be a trans woman in canon even simply through a death of the author lense

Swinging back on this au after agesssssss-Story by me but art by @phinamina and they also helped me figure out the set Spidersona designs for the Dead Sea Siblings aka the ones it centers!

The title's 'Dead Seapunk Siblings'(thought up by Phina!)and here's the summary to it:

Spiderwoman Hazel,Spiderman Nico and Spiderpunk Percy

Hazel's the first to get bitten,Nico's the second and Percy's the third but they all happen in close timeframes.Hazel absentmindedly wandered into the woods while focused on her current painting project she was hyperfocusing on and didn't notice how near to the webbing on the tree she was leaning the (radioactive) spider who made it was,Nico was dealing with his bullies after school and grabbed a (radioactive!) spider he saw nearby and threw it on one of them as self-defense straight after it bit him and Percy cought hers while with her group of solarpunk friends as they were disposing of radioactive waste(and yes,that was what caused her spider to mutate in the first place)

Hazel's fifteen,Nico's seventeen and Percy's twenty two and their Uncle Ben equivalent was Sally so she passed away years ago and that left Percy needing to parentify herself so she could look after her baby cousins who'd started living at La Residencia Jackson ages ago due to their own moms' passings.I don't feel right having Sally die a violent or gruesome death so she passed away from a stress stroke Gabe was at fault for and so was her being much older than she is in the books to match her children.Percy brought Gabe's own death onto him in a mixture of revenge for her and not wanting her and Nico and Hazel to be forced to live with him as their only adult guardian and she did it in a moment of negative emotional unrestraintment by sneaking a toaster into the bathtub while he was in it.Nico and Hazel figured out she did it fairly quickly but didn't tell her because they understood she felt like a monster over it and ironically,she kept it from them because she was scared they'd genuinely view her as one too if they found out(they found it admirable and one of the most major moment's she proved herself as the best non-biological eldest sibling and parent anyone could ever ask for)

Marie died peacefully in her sleep from old age and permanent health problems and Maria contracted lung cancer from years of smoking + divorced Hades shortly after Nico's birth and he got custody of Bianca but Persephone managed to have her Kill Bill era and so Bia lives happily and fatherlessly with her single plant mom and ends up meeting the DSS later on in the story and Tyson pops into the picture as well once Poseidon comes in

It took Hazel exactly twenty four hours to decide to become a superhero(and she had it timed using an hourglass she has in her room to see how long it'd take her to succumb to the urges to)and it took her very little time become a component one compared to most fresh teen heroes.She made speedrun quips a couple of times during her origin storyline ofc

Nico on the other hand felt compelled at possibilities and opportunities of heroism but hesitant and unsure he could pull it off effectively,especially seeing as Spiderwoman(unknown yet to him her true identity)seemingly had the entire city covered already but a pep talk from her sprung him towards the leap of faith he needed to take and turn his tide and it was in the aftermath minutes of it it clicked for him who it was under her mask.He snuck up on Hazel as they both made it home both physically and with a rethorical question alerting her he knew her secret now and a few months passed by without Percy knowing about their Spidey bussiness

Partially because she was focused on her own.She'd witnessed firsthand and heard countless reports of vigilante justice and had wanted in on it for a long ass time then but didn't want to risk her siblings loosing her so she held off until her powers and so she felt more confident she could do it without dying.When she found out what they'd been doing 'behind her back' from her pov,she couldn't hold back her worried and terrified anger and demanded they hang up their masks so she wouldn't loose them and that they go back to being regular kids and it escalated into full-blown argument with them pitted against her

Leading to Percy catching Venom,it having featured in some Nico and Hazel stories pre that scene,and a battle on the roof of the Empire State Building where what happened to Gabe comes to light and their unhesitant acceptance of what she did gives her enough strength and them enough momentum to remove her symbiote and trap it in Hazel's favorite hourglass

And from then on,they function as a three Spiderperson team at long last !

"well nothing is intrinsically masculine or feminine" yesss it's almost as though every culture has its own constructed gender norms which is why these values r culturally relative & why it's racist to impose eurocentric gender expectations on racialized bodies. all well & good to say femininity & masculinity should be completely abolished but what are you going to do for the Black women who are being labelled masc or gender non-conforming right now for not aligning with white gender norms that exclude them by design. "gender norms are social constructs do whatever you want forever" isn't enough we need to be saying "Black women are assumed to be deviating from gender norms just by existing even when they are purposefully expressing femininity bc western gender structures are built upon whiteness" like you've got to start by dismantling the racism & white supremacy inherent in these structures or you will leave racialized women behind
