Really, I hate Peter Jackson for destroy a great character as Beorn was, his shitty versión makes me cry, Oooh, poor Beornning tortured by the Orcs. WTF!? Go to fuck yourselves.
The beorn from the books is, by far, more amazing and imposing than the movie version, the orcs fear him, they don’t want to make him angry.

i feel like in a modern!au beorn would basically be that weird hippie who lives just outside of town who old people start rumors about and think is like scary as shit and don’t let their children go near but really he just wants to be left alone to raise goats and everyone should be nice to him the end. also he probably wears one of those dumb straw hats

"Most who do don’t live long to spread word of it.” His vision was on securing the belt at his waist. He hadn’t been aware something had been watching that—-the complicated shift back into his human figure. It was taxing, the snapping of bones and molding of muscles was not a painless process, it was not some fluid transformation that occurred with an air of ease. Finally those dark eyes looked up, hooking on the feminine figure. “What do you know of me, trespasser?”
a rather irritated expression fixed itself on her face. “well at least you have no problem repeating words, maybe you do have some intelligence,” the woman mused aloud, “if you’re not going to tell me what you are will you share your name?” she questioned. why she was so curious about him was beyond her, it could be because she rarely left her mountain or because he was something she never seen before.
"---I have enough to know to be wary." Wary--he was not being wary, he was being defensive to the point of rudeness. His jaw set for a moment, teeth grinding together as he looked over the woman once again. She expected an answer--and he couldn't discern if that was due to arrogance or ignorance. Granted, the shifter wasn't exactly all too keen on being very polite or pleasantries in general. "Beorn is my name. And yours?"
Well, he did have a point. He was a bear, after all. A really, really large bear.
Though, if he thought a simple stare was going to discourage the young dwarf, he clearly didn’t know one Thorin Oakenshield very well. Kili swore his uncle could kill lesser dwarves with a single glower. “Maybe your other knives are dirty,” the prince replied with a small shrug. “I’m not one to judge. How would I know how often bears see if fit to clean their silverware?” Mahal only knew he struggled with that kind of chore himself. “Look, I’m not saying you should do any disembowelment here. I doubt innards are very good with toast. All I am saying is that you could hurt somebody with that thing! It’s practically half my size!”
".... would you wish to check in my sink to see if they are?" It was not an invitation, quite the contrary, Beorn's tone was tense as he offered the mouthy dwarf the option. After spreading the preserves on his bread he took the knife in hand and struck it into the wooden tabletop, leveling Kili with another cold look. "I am more than just bear. And we clean our silverware when we see it fit." He leaned towards the dwarf, bending down to bring his face close to the other. "And it isn't my fault your kind are so small. If I wanted to hurt someone, I wouldn't waste my silver on it."
Her lips curled in a smile, dipping her head in a simple nod. So far, she did not mind her time with him. He seemed much more open than those of her kin, or at least that of her King. Either way, Tauriel was comfortable in her companionship currently with him. It seemed they would each do what was needed in case of an attack. Or at least, she hoped so.
“My kin are content with hiding behind their walls. I am no prisoner nor will I ever. I will fight to protect the world I live in” Perhaps it was her final say on the topic, but it was obvious that she was stern upon the subject. She was not like her kin, she was far more different. “Beorn, it is a pleasure”
"Then you fight for a good reason." It was a simple response, matched with a faint smile before his expression dropped down to neutral. The topic at hand didn't need to be continued because he did agree with it, and while his temper and attitude might be something needing a good dose of changing at times right then he found nothing more to drag on about. He agreed, and he found no reason to continue dogging her people. "If I were you I'd save judgement on whether this is a pleasure or not for a bit. You'd be on a very short list of those who believe so." He rumbled lowly with what?--a chuckle? He moved to press on, hands dragging across the bark of the woods as he started in one direction. "A pleasure would be if we made it out unscathed and with our wits."

"——this?” Beorn gave the dwarf a flat look, waiting for a silent moment to see if it had meant those words in jest. “This is a butter knife. It is used for spreading.” He held aloft the piece of bread fitted in his other hand, a berry preservative already sluggishly sliding down it. “Do you all think that anything larger than you is some tool of war?”Perhaps, just perhaps Beorn had been out of the circle of what social norms were, seeing his butter kife was sharp and about two sizes too large to be considered anything minuscule.
Kili’s eyebrows rose so quickly nearly rocketed off his head. Just a butter knife, he says, the dwarf thought to himself, perhaps a bit unkindly. He had seen butter knives before. What kind of fool did this skin-changer take him for? Unable to keep himself from scoffing, the lad folded his arms over his chest and stared up at Beorn, challenge obvious in his dark eyes. “Spreading organs, maybe,” he muttered under his breath. Where on Middle earth was his company when he needed them?
"Or do you need to impale the butter before you smear it? Surely you can’t be serious."
Beorn froze, the Northman shifting so those dark eyes landed heavily onto the dwarf in his presence. He had heard that. The first bit. The shifter only blinked when the reckless little mouth ran again and used that tone with him. Beorn was, simply put, not very amused--not yet, at least. "If I wasn't serious why would I be using it?" The words were rumbled out lowly, and that gaze finally broke away to look at his bread as he moved that spread around with said knife in his hands. "If I wanted to impale and spread organs I'd use my claws for that."

"is that a threat?" she smiled coyly at the other. clearly he did not frighten her, rarely anything did, "enough to know you’re more than just a man, so what are you?” Tragu was old, however the creatures she seemed to always encounter amazed her still. the dragoness’ golden eyes studied him carefully; in moments like these it was wise to keep her guard up - especially in this weak form.
"Whether it was or wasn't, sounds as if you took it as one." He replied gruffly, hands moving to gather his mangled mane of hair and twist it out of the way. She was not threatened, and that struck him as odd and something to be wary of. It wasn't commonplace for those to be so calm when faced with something unnatural--or what may be deemed as unnatural by most. "I am more than just a man." There was a faint snort as he replied to that question with the barest answer he could muster, using the woman's own words right back in return.
