Time is a tricky beast...
Time reminds me of when you keep cash and change in your wallet and slowly the money runs out. When it’s all gone, you have no idea where it all went and can’t seem to trace it back to anything.
Unlike money, however, the depletion of time is slow.
It only took me a couple hundred dollars to learn that cash isn’t something I should keep on hand, but it’s taken me a whole decade to learn that time isn’t something I am good at managing either. Ten years of my adult life, gone, and I have no idea where.
My biggest regret though, is not so much about all the things I did and did not do, but more so the realization that I was never present. I was always in my head, always in the future. Everything was always in 6 months; in 3 months; next summer; next year. Every single fucking time!
Next thing I know, ten years have gone by and I’m wondering where it all went.
How I fucked my life up (Part 1)...
I always wanted to be a teacher, that’s just what I have always wanted to be. I have, of course, entertained the idea of being something else, I mean, who doesn’t want to be a singer or an actor, but at my core, teacher, that was always the one. My most innate calling.
It came before I was exposed to the world. Before I knew anything about salary and social status; post-secondary education and bills; lifestyle, social media...BEFORE ANYTHING. I was a kid and I wanted to be a teacher.
So why I chose to study Fitness and Health Promotion at Humber College is beyond me...Actually it’s not, I know exactly why and here’s what I remember:
1.) Sitting in my Gr.12 Biology class discussing university, jobs, and money. The conversation is a bit hazy now, but I remember learning that: (a) there was an influx of people studying to be come teachers; (b) there were not enough jobs; and (c) teachers make a shit salary. It’s ironic that I even gave a shit about my salary, seeing as up til about three years ago, the most I ever got paid for a job was $14/hr, and the salary from my last job is hardly what one would consider respectable.
2.) I waited til the last minute to apply to university. I also stopped showing up to my job so I was broke and my mom didn’t have any money either so on the last day of applications, I didn’t have any money to submit mine. "Luckily” (and I say luckily in parentheses because I was not lucky at all, to this day I regret missing the university deadline and I regret not pursuing teaching), but anyways, “luckily”, I still had time to make the college deadlines. So I ended up applying to the Fitness and Health Promotion program at Humber and Algonquin, it was the closest program to Biology and it was a bridging one, where I would study two years in college and two years in university (Kinesiology)...it was perfect! But not actually.
Side Note: At some point in my final year of high school, I decided that I was going to study Biology. This decision was stupidly influenced by a lot of factors: my favourite high school teacher was my biology teacher; I could memorize the process of glycolysis; and of the three, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, Biology was considered the “easiest”. Funny that I talk about easiest because the level of difficulty of a course has never affected my academic prowess. Easy or hard, I’m a shitty student and I don’t like studying. Nevertheless, my decision to pursue Biology (and forego teaching) led me to the Fitness and Health Promotion at Humber College, the decision, the catalyst, for my unwavering demise.
I’m tired of being hungry...
I’m tired of being hungry. It just doesn’t make any sense. My body is full of fat and yet it still has the audacity to claim hunger. Fuck you! You’re not hungry, you’re just greedy, gluttonous, SELF-INDULGENT. You don’t care that I can’t fit into my clothes or wear a nice dress. Or that my titties hang like a pair of oversized testicles because YOU ran out of room to store all that excess energy and stretched my breast tissue out to oblivion.
You’re hungry? Give me a break...I have enough fat stores to feed an entire nation, so please, spare me. You’re not hungry and I am not feeding you. Enough is enough. You need to get your shit together.
