Spring Summer 2018 Trends

Trousers and jeans have been moving away from skinny styles into roomier and more experimental silhouettes over the past couple of seasons, and we see straight-leg styles gaining traction among youth and contemporary markets with cropped hemlines continuing to feature heavily, particularly for the warmer season. Key to updating suits, high-waist tailored styles work for careerwear, and also as more casual hi-lo daywear – think about applying this silhouette to fashion-led styles such as the trackpant. Denim is a key category for this, with brands such as Off-White leading the charge.

Spring Summer 2018 Trends

The mood for a more formal aesthetic is gaining momentum, as confirmed by the rise of tailoring on the latest catwalks. This message will filter through to dress assortments, with the blazer dress becoming an important silhouette for S/S 18. This is a shape which will work equally well for careerwear, contemporary range and partywear assortments across market levels. Styles range greatly to suit all needs, from soft DBs to structured power shoulder looks, with details including asymmetric and deconstructed designs, sleeveless renditions and ruffled trims.

Start dropping this at the start of the season in heavier fabrics and take it all the way through to summer and high-summer drops to drive newness across eveningwear and occasionwear assortments.

Spring/Summer 2018 Trends - Robe Dresses 

Wrap designs continue to upswing for dresses, with robe styles carrying through the mood for loungewear-inspired dressing. Another look tapping into versatility messages, robe designs can serve dual purposes as both dresses and dusters, adding that extra value-for-money factor which is becoming increasingly important. Midi lengths prevail, in line with the latest catwalks, but floor-sweeping and mini designs are also seen, albeit in smaller numbers. Opaque silk, chiffon and ultralight velvet are key fabrics in both solid tones and printed versions, while decorative cutwork detailing takes inspiration from peasant styles and offers an ideal option for both beach cover-ups and festival shop. This is a key silhouette to work into knitwear assortments, with ultrafine gauges working for dress-cum-cardi coat designs. Lapel details feel newer, creating an interesting blazer/robe/duster hybrid, as seen at Stine Goya and Rasario.

Alexander McQueen - Fall 2016 Collection

Sarah Burton is the renowned designer who became a household name in 2011 when she created Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. The creative directors latest collection with the British power house received fantastic reviews. The collection is utterly feminine as the pieces are heavily embroidered, delicately fur-lined and gorgeously beaded.

Charlotte Tilbury - The worlds greatest make-up artist

I love this relatively new make-up and beauty collection created by the world renowned make -up artist Charlotte Tilbury. The rose gold packaging looks classy and sleek in anybodies make-up bag. My favourite look is ‘The Golden Goddess’ which uses bronzer, highlighter and a variation of nude shades. I was also given a sample of the Magic Night Cream and Magic Eye Rescue. These products are quiet rich but are very effective. Available in all Brown Thomas’ across Ireland, be sure to call into Charlotte’s counter to see all her magical concoctions.

The Grammy Awards 2016 

The Grammys was once again another fashionable affair. The true winner of the night for me was Taylor Swift. She wore a handmade Versace two-piece gown and gave an inspiring acceptance speech. Also, Ellie Goulding glowed in a powdery pink Stella McCartney dress. This simplistic style suits her laid back, casual personality. Last but certainly not least is the star of The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco. This sparkling jumpsuit by Naeem Khan highlighted her solid abs and rocking body.

Molly and Polly is a Australian swimwear label by Aussie designer Kirsten Beck. The collections are mainly bright graphic prints and unique pastel colour palettes. My favourite is the ice cream range which you can buy online here.

Worst Dressed - Met Gala 2014

This weeks episode of Fashion Police on the E! Network can easily be 3-hours long as the 2014 Met Gala saw plenty atrocious outfits. An outrageous amount of Celebrities, Actors and Supermodels need to sack their stylists, as you can see above.

Just because a gown has a designer label on it does not mean it is fashionable or even some what stylish.That brings me to my first culprit,12 Years A Slave star Lupita Nyong'o, seen above wearing a Prada green feathered dress. Everything is wrong with this outfit from the awkward head piece to the netted material with green embellishments. This attempt of a 1920's flapper girl failed!

Next up, Neil Patrick Harris and partner David Burtka wear coordinating cropped tuxedos and cummerbunds. The How I Met Your Mother star sported dark brunette hair and eye liner opposed to his normal bleached blonde look seen on the show. 

Other stars which made my 'Worst Dressed List' were; Katie Holmes in a daisy yellow Marchesa dress, Lena Durham (Girls) in a Giambattista Valli floral peplum, Zoe Saldana (Avatar) in a Michael Kors lampshade dress, Karlie Kross (Supermodel) in a Oscar de la Renta gold lamé cloqué gown, Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) in a sheer Prada dress and finally Rita Ora in Casadei over the knee boots.

The Met Gala 2014 - Best Dressed

The best dressed couple of the night goes to Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The Gossip Girl star wore a figure hugging rose gold Gucci ball gown while her Husband (the best accessory of the night) also wore Gucci, a midnight blue velvet tuxedo.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard looked extremely dapper hand in hand on the red carpet in New York City last night. The 50-year-old channeled old Hollywood glamour in a Ralph Lauren ensemble with white gloves, a cane and a silver pocket watch. Amber, the star of Friday Night Lights, wore a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown that had a high neckline and long sleeves.

David and Victoria Beckham wore matching white outfits to the Gala hosted by Anna Wintour, Editor of US Vogue. Of course, Victoria's white column dress was from her own 2014 collection.

The theme of this years Met Gala was 'White Tie And Decorations.'

My favourite short hemline dress of the night had to be Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's Balmain gown. It incorporated leopard print, leather and gold. The 27-year-old supermodel accessorized with hooped earrings and golden gladiator heels. On paper, this outfit sound cheap and tacky but she was able to make it work with her height and stature.

The Kimono - A Summer Essential.

Now that summer is swiftly approaching and the weather is gradually getting better, wardrobes need to be updated.

Kate Moss - Topshop Collection 2014

Thousands of Topshop fans turned out for Kate Moss' 2014 collection launch on Oxford Street yesterday. A number of supermodels made an appear at the launch party from Cara Delevingne to Naomi Campbell, pictured above with Topshop owner, Sir Philip Green.

In less than 24 hours the hugely successful 40-piece collection sold out both online and in stores with prices ranging from £35 - £350. Some of the items can now be found on Ebay for double the original price. This is the 40-year-old supermodel’s 15th range for Topshop, returning after a four year break from designing with the company. Mean Girls - 10 Year Anniversary.

Can you believe 10 years have passed since the cult film Mean Girls released on 30th April 2004. This 'fetch' movie starring Lindsay Lohan is the most quoted film of all time.

A few Mean Girls facts you may not have known;

1. Rachel McAdams wore a wig in the movie.

2. The Actress Lizzy Caplan dated Matthew Perry for about six years. Yup, Janis Ian and Chandler Bing were together from 2006 to 2012.

3. In real life, Mrs. George and daughter Regina are only seven years apart. Amy Poehler was 32, and Rachel McAdams was 25.

All of the starring Actresses including the films Writer Tina Fey have equally grown in success over the 10 years since the movie's premier. See above for some of the casts stunning and quite surprising transformations.
