“I guess it depends. Criminal records can keep people out of all kinds of places. I guess if you can prove you cleaned up you’re safe.”
“It’s not even like what I do is that bad. I don’t see why they wouldn’t accept me.”
“I guess at least you have a sort of plan.” Freddie shrugged, “Hopefully colleges will overlook your criminal past.” He smirked, downing the last of his drink and letting out a small sigh.
“I mean, they can’t really stop me from going if I’ve cleaned up, right? They can’t keep criminals out of school because they fucked up in the past.”
“Uh– okay.”
“You’re not very good at pretending, you have to actually speak, you know.”
A grin peeked out on her lips. “Nice.” She chuckled, reaching her hand out for a small high five, so the cops wouldn’t see.
He smiles, high-fiving her. “thanks, it was just something little, I’ve got something bigger cooking, just need to find the perfect time to put it out there.”
“No problem. But first, what did you do? So I can at least tell my lawyer when we get arrested.”
“It wasn’t even that bad. I spray painted a dick on a car, its not big deal.”
Freddie opened his mouth to comment but then closed it again. He hadn’t expected the kid to come out with an actual reason as to why he was acting up. But then again, it’s the typical ‘notice me’ stunts an unnoticed child would pull. “So you fuck up, you get noticed.” Freddie let the thought settle in his head. If he couldn’t get noticed by being good, he felt the need to get noticed by being bad. “Look man, I’m not here to judge,” He took some of his drink before continuing “but someday this wont just be a game, someday you’ll go too far and you could get in serious trouble. Drawing dicks on a cop car is one thing, but how are you gonna keep topping yourself.”
He shrugs, “you know, I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. I’m moving out June, so I can stop doing this stupid shit.” He finishes his drink, wincing at the taste. “I just have to last until I’m 18, and then I can get back on track, go to college, do normal things.”
Callyn smirked, considering she’s heard worst insults slung at her, she figured handling this Star-Lord wannabe would be a piece of cake. As he turned, her elbow deftly pushed her opened handbag off the table. She shrieked as the contents spilled onto the ground. “Help! My bag!” The commotion she caused instantly alerted the officers currently combing the area for Theo; the man of the hour apparently. And here comes the cavalry, she mused while maintaining her facade of fear as the officers headed her way. “Thief!”
Theo simply laughs, “you really think I steal bags? Am I twelve?” He turns to the cops, giving them a sweet smile, “gentlemen, she can tell you whatever you want, and if you believe it you’re actual idiots. You both know I would stoop low enough to steal a bag. Now if you’d excuse me, I’d like to go back to my house and do my homework, you know, like the good boy I am.”
Unimpressed with the explanation Callyn refused to entertain him any further. Besides, if she kept interacting with him, she would inadvertently become part of Theo’s plan as he initially requested. Turning her attention to her phone she ignored his presence.
“Oh, wow, sorry I forgot I was talking to one of the biggest, most pretentious people in this whole god damn town.” He rolls his eyes, turning around, “make sure to come up for air every once in a while, you could black out from sucking the laws dick so much.”
“Uh, okay… What the hell did you do?”
“You sure you want to be considered an accessory or whatever?”
“Okay okay. Make sense.” Noah nodded. “Wait did you actually go to jail?” The boy questioned. “Ah me too. Ancaster high? Or are you one of those religious folks and go out of town to Bishop Tonnes?”
He nods, “I wouldn’t recommend it, so stay out of trouble unless you want to end up like me. I go to Ancaster, fuck being religious. Sorry if you are, it’s just bullshit, in my opinion.”
“You must be a lot old than I think you are to have gone to prison once or twice.” Noah played along, assuming that it was just a joke. “The problem is shutting me up.. So I think you’ll be safe.”
“It was just like a week both times. I’m a senior in high school, so unless you thought I was twelve, I’m about what you thought.”
“Still, those things they only hold you for are illegal.” Fletch chuckles and shakes his head. “Kids these days are so un-inventive. A dick on a cop car. How boring.”
“But not illegal enough for me to go to prison, so mildly illegal.” He shrugs, “I have some things that are time sensitive, some things just to be an inconvenience, this was an inconvenience.”
“Well, being that I am not a fully qualified lawyer, I have yet to represent a case.” He explained, “But I’ve sat in on a few, and sadly I cannot divulge any information.”
“I get that you want to show up your dad, but why do you want to break these laws? Even the small ones count to something.” He asked trying to grasp what Theo was thinking.
“Oh, come on, you only have to do that shit if it’s still going on, don’t you?” He shrugged, “I have four other siblings, and I’m smack in the middle of all of them. My sister went to Harvard and my brother is off in some third world country building shit for under-privileged children. And both of my younger sisters get straight A’s and one of them has a job. And what do I do that gets me noticed? I just fuck up.” He looked down at the drink in front of him, sighing, “I just want to be noticed. I just want my parents to see me and this is the only thing that makes them.”
Freddie shrugged, “I can probably guarantee I have already seen worse crimes committed than anything you could do.”
“Oh,” he raises an eyebrow, “you wanna bet? Unless you’ve represented a serial killer who also makes meth on the side, I’m sure I can be the worst you’ve had.”
