Last teaching day of the semester !! Which actually just means until next semester I will be suspending my understanding of time by working on my dissertation for as many hours as humanly possible and drink an inordinate amount of coffee which will probably make my tummy hurt.

Summary of this week : I got microbangs !! Went on a walk & visited our neighborhood cat. Watched Big Bang at coachella (from my desk) and mourned a highschool friendship founded in K-pop and ended in me blocking them on Instagram. Worked on my dissertation on and off but I really need to sit my ass down and finish my chapter on white feminism and cosmetic horror.

went to the seaside, pledged not to do any dissertation work, came back with novel scenes and an idea for two AKOTSK fanfics. not to be flowery but I spent my whole life running from the sea bc of the small town we moved to when I was 8...but the sea is actually kind of a ginormous part of me and I don't think that will ever change.

Spent probably a little too much money on acrylic paint markers that are partially discoloured but we have started journaling ahead of PhD so I don’t lose my shit mid year.

An update on this:

• could not commit to journaling

•did go a little crazy mid year and am going a little crazy now

•proposal is approved and I started my dissertation,got research funding

•am officially a driver after years of driving anxiety

•first situationship last year failed, alas, 6 year single streak lives another day.

Not telling your kid they have a learning disability, chronic illness, mental illness etc. so they can “feel normal” actually does the opposite. They will not feel normal if they do not have the context to understand that their normal will be different from that of their peers.

The amount of times I’ve heard a parent say something like “I’m just not going to tell my son he has ADHD, I want him to feel normal.” HE DOES NOT. HE DOES NOT FEEL NORMAL. HE IS WONDERING WHY HE IS STRUGGLING AND COMING TO THE CONCLUSION HE IS AN IRREDEEMABLE FAILURE.
