for those who are wondering, these are all yamaha plastic recorders. the soprano was $10 (though I bought mine for $5), alto was $20, and the tenor was $60 (on sale at the time). they are very good quality, very well in tune, and very underappreciated. go learn recorder

Interesting post for you flute lot out there

So recently I went to the instrument museum in Brussels and saw these flutes.

I’m sure as 90% of you know, the modern flute we play on today was designed by Boehm and in these pictures you can see the progression through the instruments to an early Boehm model.

Essentially the evolution of the flute.

In particular, you can see the differences between the shapes of the instruments and how they went from conical bodies with a cylindrical head joint to cylindrical bodies with a conical head in the Boehm flute. This made the sound project much more, made it much bigger.

The difference in key work speaks for itself.

The top flute was made of crystal, the middle, wood and the Boehm, metal.

I really enjoyed playing my little game of “spot the differences” with these flutes and I hope you all find it interesting too! :)

I hope I learn in the very near future why the guy who design this kind of flute thought this arrange to play these notes were a good idea because right now I’m very mad.

Good news I got a sound! And learned the correct position to start playing but I worried that assembling and picking it apart every day would damage the instrument. I need to buy a stand :/... but for now let’s count our victories !
