đč for the starter meme
đč for me to use a line from my favorite movie as a starter
(Iâm def going with Newsies on this one)
âWell, I guess I canât be something I ainât.â
M'gann gently rested her hand against his arm, quietly offering full support.
âYou canât be anything until you DECIDE to become it.â She gently explained to him. She moved her arm up to his shoulder and proceeded to move her hand back and forth, attempting to bring his attention to her and away from his negative thoughts.
âI told you what I realized after that - uh - simulation,â Dick said, resting his head in his hands. âI know this wonât happen for a while, but it feels like Batman expects me to be like him. He expects me to lead like him, and maybe even become Batman when he ⊠retires.â He refused to think that Batman would die one day.
M'gann carefully bent down so she could be at eye level with Robin.
âJust because⊠Just because you take someoneâs place doesnât mean you become them.â She quietly explained to the boy. âWho says you canât take Batmanâs position as protector and be your own person?â She asked him, searching for the right words.
Dick smiled slightly, knowing that Miss M. was trying the best she could. âI get what youâre trying to say, but thatâs not the way that it works. Not in Gotham, anyway. Batman isnât just a hero to them. Heâs a symbol. The moment I have to put on that costume is the moment I have to be him. I donât think I can do that.â
âBut that doesnât mean your morals have to be the same.â She gently explained to him. Sure, he might become Batman one day, maybe act the same, but thatâs all it would be. An act. He could be his own person and still be the Bat.
âItâs not the morals that Iâm afraid of,â he explained. âBatmanâs got the best moral code Iâve ever seen, and Iâm sure Iâll keep that, butâŠâ He paused, not exactly sure what to say. âWhat if I mess up? I could ruin the entire image that BrâŠ. Batman built up.â
Before he could dwell on it, Mâgann spoke up.Â
âBut what if you donât?â She asked him. âWhat if you donât mess it up? What if you do manage to do great? Save people? Because⊠Because the universe works in ways that even advanced races like us Martians donât understand. And we never will. But I know you can do it, and I know you will be able to. And I believe in you, and I know you can do It. And, I know coming from me, it isnât a lot, but I donât doubt you even for a second. I know you can do it, you can do it now if you need to, and⊠AndâŠâ Mâgann was running out of things to say, and fast. She knew she had talked fast, and her sentences were messy, but she meant every word. She knew Robin could do it. She just knew it.Â
Dick smiled up at his friend. She was trying really hard to cheer him up, âThanks, Mâgann,â he said, sincerely. âI mean, yeah, it could all go right. I shouldnât dwell on it.â He partially said it so she wouldnât worry so much, but it was still nice to know that he had a friend who believed in him. âHey, is knowing just what to say when it needs to be said a Martian trait or something?â
Mâgann blushed at the compliment. Making a quick decision, she reached out and hugged the boy, hoping she didnât startle him. âI donât think itâs a Martian trait, I think youâre just rubbing off on meâ She said, mouth partially blocked by hair and urge to sneeze strong.Â
Dick froze for a second when she hugged him, but he hugged her right back after a moment. âWell, itâs good to know that I have a friend like you.â
M'gann smiled and hugged the boy tighter.
âAnd Iâm glad I have a friend like you.â
âOkay, Mâgann, I think you might be choking me now,â he laughed.
Mâgann pulled back and blushed. âSorry, I guess I got a bit excited.â She said, embarrassed to know she had forgotten to control her strength.
âItâs fine,â he laughed. âThough, remind me not to get you too excited next time. You probably donât have to watch your strength when you hug Superboy.â
Mâgann tapped her chin thoughtfully. âTrue.â She said finally. âDo you have any specific cookie recipe you like?â She asked. She had gotten a new cook book, and was eager to try it.
Cookies. Now that was something that could cheer him up no matter what. âDoes that book have oatmeal raisin cookies?â he asked.
âYep! AND it has peanut butter oatmeal raisin cookies! We can make both!â He exclaimed, getting more and more excited by the moment.
âWhoa! Weâd better slow down before this gets totally crazy!â Dick laughed.
