Following, I use my own words and thoughts. In many aspects, I can find my thoughts in the presentations or books of people like Eckart Tolle or Matt Kahn. These are wise guys, but I prefer to write it in my own words for you. I will force myself using short sentences. :-)
Times of suffering and their effects
When we had times when we suffered a lot, there is the start point of it all.
This 'age of suffering' can happen in all life stages – early childhood, primary school age, youth, adulthood, seniority. The younger we are and the harder the challenges are, the more impact will occur.
To be clear: 'Time of suffering' is always a longer timeframe. Often years long, rarely shorter episodes. The longer and the more complex the suffer-causing incidents last, the larger the impact of this 'age of suffering' will be.
The consequences of suffering are sometimes hard to stand. Some people can't deal with it, we say 'she/he is broken'. Being broken can lead e.g. to drug addiction/alcoholism, aggression towards others, chronic depression, sexual abuse, suicide ... just to name a few options of what can follow when someone 'breaks'.
Others manage to deal even with severe violation or extreme amounts of loss, they do not break (yet). In this article, I will try explore this kind of resilient people. Human beings that developed some certain strengths while coping with their time(s) of suffering. We could call them 'strong people', which would imply that the broken ones are 'weak'. This is not always true. Everyone can break at a certain point. Some earlier, others later.
Where does the suffering live? and the backside of suffering
When we say 'It's all in your heart', we're quite close to it. All times of suffering are 'memorised' forever. The deep memory of the soul can never be deleted. We must differentiate between a conscious memory and a somehow 'emotional memory'. The time(s) of suffering lead/s to negative or even self-destructive emotions. These expand our emotional capacity on both extremes - the counterpart of negative emotions also develops a similar volume of space for positive emotions. When you know how cold real coldness feels, you also know how warming real warmth is - a simple metaphor that fits quite well here.
The exploration of the dark and threatening emotions of times of suffer enlarges the fields where we could feel hurt in the future. We lock them away. We build shields, create walls. Since the negative and positive emotional areas are connected - imagine them as the two sides of same world: a bright side and a dark side. When we allow sharing a certain area of the bright side with someone, we also risk to get hurt on the subsequent dark side of that certain area. Learning to be strong also makes us hard: for protection reasons.
Recognition plays an important role, but not the all deciding role. Recognition is only a factor. Imagine every person being a pot (to cook with), without a cover. If we recognise someone, then we suddenly 'know' that we know that 'pot' and that we have a cover in stock that could fit. Vice versa being recognised means that both 'know' each other and that both have a cover in stock that could fit the other 'pot'. Maybe you have a soul contract with each other, an appointment out of past lifecycles.
In most relationships, the cover is too small, has holes or is not fitting in a stable manner. But hey, it works! Somehow.
Recognising someone who also has the almost perfect fitting cover for the other is quite rare. Way cool, that! Unfortunately only for one side while the other must live with a cover that somehow fits, but not that perfect. Even though there's a certain imbalance, it can work quite good and for a longer time. When two persons recognise each other AND both know that they own such a nearly perfect fitting cover for the other, we can describe this as very rare, or, 'once in a lifetime'. The 1%-case if the age, gender, location and other environmental factors fit all together.
There are several potential endpoints for suffering - when we will never suffer again:
A. The complete division of mind and body - a state where we don't need any other person. Being able to give without ever needing something from another person. A pot that closed itself on its own. Can happen on a long way through the life, e.g. by the death of one of the participants of B or by reaching nirvana, where all consciousness learned to fly.
B. sharing the life with someone who feels what we feel long before we aware of this feeling - the 1%-case described above or a compromise that works for a longer period or even lifelong.
C. Death. If we die before one of the one of the other endpoints is reached, the suffer will repeat or continue in the next reincarnation.
Stay open and perceive every human contact around you. Recognising soul friends requires full awareness for resonating people. Today's busy outside world is flooding us with useless impressions. Though, tomorrow's satisfying and evolving life path can only be found when we learn better to recognise our 'contract partners'. Who is this? Listen to your inner guide's voice and open your senses.
