The Golden Perch

The Golden Perch is the name of an inn located within J.R.R Tolikiens world of Middle Earth. Though only mentioned in passing, the name intrigued me. I imagined it much like any other inn found wihin fantasy literature; a place where news was shared and stories told. In the spirit of that idea, I decided to take it as the name for this tumblr. My interests are broad and varied, but I intend for this to be a crossroads. Anything I post on other platforms will link or post here as well. So keep an eye out. I hope you'll find something you like.

Loblolly pine in the style of Martha Jacques Cutkomp from the "How to know trees" field guide copyright 1940 by H.E. Jacques.

With a background in environmental sciences I am naturally drawn to old field guides. Most are filled to the brim with drawings and diagrams from little known or forgotten artists. As such I have decided to reinterpet a reference drawing of a loblolly pine with my photography as a tribute to those who illustrated the forgotten books of yesteryear.
