“Coming,” she called, struggling to stand on one leg to remove her sock one at a time, the deep thumping from her hopping on the floor loud. “Yeah, I’m here.” Opening the door, she smiled to see Kao. “Hey.”
“Come in,” she said, moving sweaty hair out of her face. “I was just getting ready to, uh, yeah, come in.”
His brows raised, listening to the thumps on the other side of the door. But from the sound of her voice she seemed to be okay. It would have been rude of him to go barging in uninvited anyway. And then she was there, smiling at him, welcoming him and he was unable to resist mimicking her friendly nature, smiling sheepishly as he shuffled inside.
The blanket forgotten for the moment, he glanced around the room, looking for what had been making all the noise. He reached up, banging the side of the wall, trying to duplicate it with a puzzled expression.
