Worthy Wednesday Fic Challenge
We see the same (admittedly excellent) stories recommended over and over and over. Let's expand our horizons! Recommend and briefly describe a fic or two or three (or more) that you've never (or rarely) seen mentioned. Extra points if you don't personally know the writer. Tag @trickiwooao3 or #Worthy Wednesday
Thank you for the tags @ramonaflow and @trickiwooao3. I really like this idea.
Feels like home by @thegrayness This author has another series that often gets recced in certain circles (iykyk), but I feel this one gets overlooked because of the RPF tag. Now, I'm not generally a fan of RPF, but I'm so glad I took a chance on this. It really just feels like the author didn't want SC as a local and/or any other side characters, so used Dan and Noah as names for their pairing. They still feel like David and Patrick to me, so I've decided to just ignore the tag. If you like small-town PNW in the fall vibes, then you are in for a treat. It's cozy, it's artsy, it's angsty, and will make you hungry to boot.
No dress rehearsals by @kindofspecificstore Was I swayed by the title and my obligatory Canadian love of The Hip? Maybe. To be honest, it's hard to get more Canadian than this fic. There's a timmies. There's the hip. There's Ted. (His tacked on "bud"s are just *the* archetype of Canadian parlance, much more than "eh"). Most importantly though, there is healthy male friendship and what a breath of fresh air is that? Just lovely.
Currents all around us by @5ambreakdown It's magical realism, sort of time travel but not. Angsty David, caretaker Patrick, trolling and humour along with so many twists and turns - sucks you in entirely.
@goodiecornbread @apothecarose @wearpersistencewell @statueinthestone @flowertrigger what you got?
It is absolutely insane to post a “rec” like this AND tag the author. Granted, this was a few weeks ago but I just saw it and I’m annoyed.
Feels Like Home is about characters Dan and Noah. It is not about David and Patrick with different names. Sucks that they feel like Patrick and David to you, and it’s kind of a bummer that my intention with this fic did not come across, and that you’re using that to rec it to other readers who also do not want to be reading RPF.
I didn’t write this to convince people to read RPF. If you don’t want to read it, then don’t. Don’t read it reluctantly, decide you like it, figure out how to make excuses to yourself about it, and then tag the author in your monologue. If you want to talk shit about my characterization, leave me out. Like, that’s just being mean.
Feels Like Home is RPF about following your heart even though it might break.
If you’re looking for David/Patrick, I have about 60 fics you can choose from, and obviously the tag has like 10k or whatever. Enjoy.
P.S. s/o to the "certain circles", appreciate the support.
