"The last thing I wanted was infinite security and to be the place an arrow shoots off from. I wanted change and excitement and to shoot off in all directions myself, like the coloured arrows from a Fourth of July rocket."

When one does not have to account for one's own existence in it, however, the world offers abundant joy.
In the past, recent or distant, have you experienced a great subversive pleasure in opening all your windows to a sweet, cool spring breeze while keeping your furnace on and pumping warm air into your residence? When that happened, did any person say, "No, no, if you open the windows, you turn off the furnace. That's common sense." But isn't it the scent of the breeze that you want, the way it makes you think, the way it makes you remember? And why should you turn the heat off, why should you have to freeze, when you only want to remember a day when every piece of the puzzle seemed to fall into place? Is that common sense?

"But she is warm and solid, and her purring is a comfort I don't deserve but hoard all the same, as it fills me with life and satisfaction, and wards away the loneliness, which I would have previously termed solitude."
Stephen Graham Jones
"We exist now in a fleeting bloom of life and knowing, one finger snap of frantic being, and this is it. This summery burst of life is more bomb than bud. These fecund times are moving fast."
Samantha Harvey, Orbital
