Millionaires Shortbread Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons, Great Milton, Oxfordshire There are no words to describe how good this pudding was. The caramel in particular was divine. 10/10
Red Velvet Cupcake
Sprinkles, 422 N La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles (oops, again)
Absolutely the best red velvet cupcake I've ever had. Light as air and with a perfect chocolately hint. Perfect frosting, not too sweet. Yum. And it came out of their cupcake ATM which is surely the best invention of the 21st Century. Very dangerous.

Kreme (that's custard slice to you and me)
Cafe Gerbeaud, Budapest, Hungary
This is without doubt the best custard slice I have ever had, and will no doubt ever taste. It was absolute perfection. The custard had little black flecks of real vanilla pods and was a perfect consistency, not too stodgy, and the pastry was crisp and buttery with no trace of sogginess. I am still dreaming about it.

Tiramasu
Onyx Restaurant, Budapest, Hungary
Not just any old Tiramasu! The second pudding of our tasting menu at this gorgeous Michelin-starred restaurant in Budapest was a sort of deconstructed tiramasu. We were told it consisted of 72% dark chocolate cream cake, mascarpone ice cream, almond biscuit, milk chocolate ice cream, white coffee ice cream and amaretto jelly. It was delicious.

Dobos
Central Kavehauz, Budapest, Hungary
This cake consisted of sponge, layers of chocolate cream and hard, crunchy caramel layer on top. Bit disappointing, it had so much promise, but was a little dry when it could have been gooey and moist.

Royal Csokadlade
Cafe Gerbeaud, Budapest, Hungary
I think I might say this quite a lot but this is by far one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever tasted. Difficult to describe but basically a light chocolate mousse on a thin sponge base with a layer of crunchy praline. Totally gorgeous. If you are ever in Budapest, make sure you go to Gerbeaud. Unfortunately this cake doesn't come in single portions...damnit.

Heaven. A deliciously light and moist banana cake with dense chocolate frosting, not too sweet and not too heavy.

Bitter chocolate Pavé
Pollen Street Social, 8/10 Pollen Street, London W1S 1NQ
Nothing I could really fault with this pudding but given the high standards of the previous two courses, I was expecting an incredible pudding. But I just got a good pudding. So I was a bit disappointed. A nice chocolatey pud but perhaps not quite sweet enough for me.

Chocolate and Salted Caramel Tart with popcorn ice cream
Hawksmoor, Guildhall, 10 Basinghall Street, London
This pudding was amazing! I am eternally disappointed by puddings that contain caramel because there is never enough caramel but this one had a great thick wedge of caramel with a smaller coating of chocolate, the proportions were perfect. My only complaint is that the pastry was perhaps a little hard but this was an otherwise perfect pudding.

Peanut Butter Parfait with bitter chocolate sauce
Bibendum, Fulham Road, London
No, I didn't have two puddings, this one was ordered by my colleague, Pat. It had a cold centre and we couldn't decide whether it was supposed to be cold or had not defrosted properly. Either way, Pat wasn't a fan of the cold middle and deemed it a rather unsatisfactory pudding all round. Shame on you Bibendum for your very average puddings.

Lemon and passionfruit sponge with custard
Bibendum, Fulham Road, London
The lemony topping on this sponge was very tangy and delicious and the custard perfect but the sponge was a tad heavy and even a little hard in the middle. Still delicious but I would expect a much higher standard of sponge from the likes of Bibendum.

Victoria Sponge Cupcake
Fancie, Sharrowvale Road, Sheffield
Rather sceptical I was when I first saw Fancie's Victoria Sponge Cupcake. Jam inside a cupcake? Really? Rather sacrilegious don't you think? Cupcakes are supposed to be American, all big and bold with mountains of sickly sweet icing. And Victoria Sponge is prim and proper and English. Maybe I'm over-thinking it... But I stand corrected. These are good, jam in the middle of a cupcake is a great idea, more stickiness, more fruitiness, I'm a convert. Don't get me wrong, I'd have to be in the right mood for the jam-centred cupcake but when it's right, it's perfect. Fancie do a good sponge cake, sometime a little dry and a tad heavy so could do better in that department but the icing is spot on in it's sweetness and they sure do look real pretty.

Whoopie Pie
Angel Food Bakery, Meeting House Lane, Brighton
I am a whoopie pie virgin so was eager to try one of these beauties made by the loving baking hands at Angel Food Bakery in the Lanes in Brighton. I'm a BIG fan of the Angel Food Bakery's cupcakes and this whoopie pie didn't let me down. The whoopie pie is created from two soft chocolate cookies, sandwiched together with butter icing and topped with chocolatey sauce. It's definitely one for the chocoholics, it's deeply rich and almost excessively chocolatey for those strange folk who aren't into all things chocolate...and it's perfect in every way. Angel Food Bakery has just opened Angel Food Kitchen where they hold classes teaching everything from making French macaroons and chocolate to vintage cupcake decoration and yummy whoopie pies. They also stock all manner of baking supplies from marshmallow fluff to edible glitter.

Brooklyn Blackout Cake
At Home, Made By Me
Yeah I know it looks a bit of a mess but the thought was there! A very intriguing cake this one and I'm still not sure whether I liked it or not. It is a Hummingbird Bakery recipe and calls for three layers of chocolate sponge sandwiched together with a sort of chocolate custard with the custard spread all over and cake crumbs spread over the top and sides. I've been wanting to try the recipe for ever, it sounds divine, chocolate cake and chocolate custard together in one cake, what's not to like?! But the chocolate custard is made with tons of sugar, water, cocoa and then a load of cornflour and I'm not sure the taste is so great, there must be a better and nicer way of making the custard. Anyway, I tried it, I ate it, kept on eating it just to make sure...but I don't like it. There.

Lemon Meringue Fairy Bun
Peyton and Byrne, St. Pancras, London
I have mixed feelings about this cake. I adore lemon meringue pie but I'm not sure it works quite as well with a cake base. The deep base of lemon usually present in the pie was conspicuously absent and without it, it just doesn't work quite the same. The cake on this fairy bun was rather heavy and the lemon curd at the bottom was sparse so perhaps a lighter sponge and more lemon curd would work better.

Chris Davies' Bakewell Tart
At Home, Sheffield
This was my Mother-in-Law's bakewell tart so clearly the pressure is on to give it a good rating but it was completely and utterly delicious. Gorgeous light sponge and perfectly buttery, sweet pastry. We had a bit of a heated debate as to whether the jam should be raspberry or strawberry but seeing as Chris is from Derbyshire, we have to bow to her better knowledge that only raspberry jam should ever be used. Recipe to follow!
