Gold hurried over to the globe, narrowing his eyes at it as the blood swirled into a map. His lip curled, revealing gritted teeth in frustration of what it showed.

"…Well…what were we expecting?" He muttered, more to himself than to Dreamy, "…Storybrooke. That’s what it’s showing, Storybrooke, Maine.” He repeated scathingly, turning away from the globe in anger. “The Blue Fairy can’t take Nova anywhere else without risking losing her own memory. Wherever she is holding her, it’s right here. And we are running out of time…” Gold grabbed his cane, making to leave the boat. “Regina and I took the fairy dust from the mines. There’s none left in Storybrooke. The amount in the mines would not have been enough but…with a huge quantity of fairy dust, one could, in theory, create a portal large enough to transport all of us back to the Enchanted Forest. It was never a viable option because we did not have such a quantity…but there are ways to make fairy dust…” Gold rounded on Dreamy, giving him a patronising wink, “The clue’s in the name.”

Dreamy began to slip away, the heaviness of the moment making Grumpy want to spit out rebuttals at Gold. Why couldn't he find anything more specific? He hadn't gone through all of this crap just to be told something that meant nothing. Storybrooke was a hell of a lot bigger than anyone could really comprehend. Something about the magic probably but -- oh. The blood on the globe vanished the more Grumpy began to seep through, pushing Dreamy back into the depths of his mind. It was then that he became aware of a throbbing in his skull. Dreamy kept fighting against him, wanting to help find Nova, to keep an open mind about everything. 

"You're telling me that we wasted all of that time to tell us nothing more than we already knew?" he bit out angrily, not sure if he was more frustrated with the Dark One or with his head. It wasn't until Gold explained about the fairy dust that Grumpy stopped caring about Dreamy, or his pounding head. His heart dropped into his stomach as he stared blankly at the old man. "Blue wouldn't do that," his voice was hollow, and even as he said the words he knew they were a lie. The fairy would do whatever she had to to get what she wanted. Even break a fairy's heart, to tear apart true love. "How would she do that?"

"If you don’t like it then starve." Jefferson shrugged. "It’s not the best I know but….it’s better then nothing after all."

"I'm a dwarf, meaning I've eaten some pretty disgusting stuff in my day, but this takes the cake," Grumpy grimaced.

The usually calm and collected man all but tripped over himself in his haste to leave the shop and rush to the dwarf’s boat, his cane not helping in his hurry.

But Gold had no idea how much time they had, nor if they had any.

Reaching the docks, Gold hurried best he could to the boat, cane clacking against the wooden boardwalk.

"Leroy? Leroy?" He called, (he’d be dead in the ground before he’d be seen shouting "Dreamy?!"), eyes searching the deck of the boat until he spotted Grumpy through the window of the cabin of the boat. Climbing onto the boat, he made his way to the man, grabbing his shoulder and shaking him out of his reverie. "We need to find Nova. Now.” Gold growled, the urgency in his voice not reflecting any caring he had for the fairy personally, but something much greater in his eyes. “The Blue Fairy means to use her to break this Curse completely. To send us all back to the Enchanted Forest. If she succeeds…you can be assured your dear Nova will not be returning with us!”

And I will be stuck back in the forest without Bae, Gold thought to himself, swallowing against the rising panic in his chest at the thought. No…he had come too far, spent too long making this Curse so he could come to this world and find his son. He’d be damned before he let that blasted Blue Fairy pull his son away from him again!

The Dark Ones voice broke through Dreamy's reverie, jolting him back to reality and causing him to fumble a bit. When trying to right himself, his palm smacked down on the point of the globe, causing his blood to all but gush out, a scream of outrage and pain leaving his lips. Droplets splattered onto the blank globe as Gold came into his cabin. 

Dreamy couldn't even hear half the words that Gold said, his eyes widening as his blood filled the globe before forming into the shape of the worlds masses. "It's working!" he exclaimed excitedly, pushing away Grumpy who was more than irritated at the whole situation. His love for Nova pushed through all of that, making his eyes widen as his blood indicated to one spot. "Where is this?" Dreamy asked Gold, turning to see the older man.

It was then that he realized how horrified the man looked. Dreamy felt his stomach begin to drop. The urge to have Grumpy remove all worry from him and harden his heart once more.

"Hmm…well, I don’t know. I see. You do have a good point.", Snow admitted to her friend. "We don’t know what the future will hold."

"No point in worrying about it though. You should just enjoy Charming while you can before the Queen plots something else."

"I can help ya, if you want." He shrugged, taking a sip from the flask.

Leroy looked up at the professor skeptically. "I'll believe that when I see it."

Gold smirked at Grumpy’s comment of own abnormality; Common ground between the pair did not seem to help them see eye to eye, it seemed.

The dwarf’s next words sparked curiosity in Gold, however, and he frowned.

“May I ask what you are going t—” Before Gold could finish asking, Grumpy had stomped out, the little bell on the door chiming as he left. “…to try.” The man finished bitterly, scowling after the dwarf.

Deciding to do something useful whilst he waited for Grumpy’s return, the pawnbroker sat down on a chair behind the counter. He propped his cane up against the counter, then closed his eyes, opening his palms out flat in front of him – this was something he had not tried in years, but his curiosity of the Blue Fairy’s meddling in Nova’s affairs had peaked enough for him to try the Seer’s gift again.

Silently, Gold sat, oblivious to the world around him as he explored the jumbled mess that was the many possible paths of the future. A slight frown creased his forehead as he tried to focus on pieces regarding Nova and Grumpy, trying to sift through and determine if they were important in the grand scheme of things, if this new development of the Blue Fairy hiding her away was going to affect him at all. Whether or not it did determined how much effort the man was likely to expend trying to help Grumpy find Nova.

…The flash of the future showed the Blue Fairy’s plan and Gold’s eyes flew open, an exclamation flying out of his lips before he could reel his emotions in:

“No!”

Grumpy didn't have the time to wait to listen to the Dark One's comments. Nova was out there somewhere, and she needed him. Going back into his Dreamy state would be hard as hell though. Even while he was Leroy, he was more Grumpy than Dreamy... but it'd been there. That tiny spark of Dreamy that was buried deep within him had been there.

And it had been connected the most when near the ship. It was his only shot at finding Nova. So he marched quickly down the streets of Storybrooke down to the docks where his little ship was tied up. The same one Nova had gotten for them to travel all of the worlds. He'd never truly gotten to appreciate it back then, but now... he sat down the globe and pulled back the plastic covering it, casting it aside before climbing aboard, grasping the blank globe again. 

His calloused hands brushed over the side of the ship, letting it all soak in. He pushed back his pessimistic thoughts and his heartbreak and let himself, for the first time in years as Grumpy, dream. Dream of a world where he could be the hero rather than Charming. Where he would go and find Nova and they'd sail off, out of this little town, not caring if their Leroy and Astrid parts came back. They'd explore this new world together, not caring about what they'd left behind. They'd just explore the world, and each other. 

So much time had passed that Grumpy - or Dreamy rather, did not even remember why he'd been brought here. He was too wrapped up in the endless possibilities and hoped that Nova, when he found her, would be willing to run off with him.

"I hear you need a drink Professor?" Wendy asked, holding her firewhisky, disguised as Butterbeer high. By this time Wendy was drunk off her arse and trying not to look so angry and depressed so she drank. "Bloody waste of time, these things if you ask me" she muttered.

Butterbeer? He stared at the drink for a moment before taking it and taking a whiff of it. Ah, firewhiskey. "Not a professor," he informed the student before taking the bottle and tipping it back, delighting in the burning in his throat. Finally something good. "Couldn't agree with you more," he grunted out, wiping his lips with the back of his hand.

"Magic?" He said with a grin. That had been what he always assumed cleaned everything at the school.

Leroy scoffed. "Yeah you would think that," he replied bitterly, glaring out at the dancing students.

"You alright, mate?" He asked, leaning back to look at him, "I know it sucks chaperoning these things, but it’s not all bad."

Leroy snorted, handing the flask back to the professor. "Easy for you to say. Who do you think's gonna have to clean up all this mess after tonight?"

"Everyone Snow. Even Watchy's back down at the mines getting ready for a new bunch of dwarves to hatch. Not that we need any more dwarves around here."

Nova and Tink had been dancing right along to the music, but now it was a slow song.  At which point, the Hufflepuff girl decided that she was going to take a little bit of a break.  

But, as per usual, she should have paid more attention to where she was going because as she turned to head off the dance floor, she ran right into one of the staff members.  

"Oh, I’m so sorry!" she exclaimed, hands flying to her face.  "Are you all right?"

He could barely even utter his words of wishes when suddenly a puff of a girl smacked right into him. Leroy had nearly lost his balance - a pretty dangerous thing considering his body could cause some serious damage - but managed to keep himself upright. "Yeah I'm fine," he grumbled irritably before he focused on who it was. 

He couldn't recall ever seeing the girl before, which probably meant she was either super sneaky, or a considerate student. Which was pretty rare in all honesty. "You should be more worried about yourself. Merlin only knows what could have happened." His attempt at being decently nice were pretty horrific, as he was used to either buying alcohol off students or yelling at them.

"You look like you could use this." March leaned in and winked, holding out a silver flask, "Confiscated it off a fifth year." He smiled proudly, "Nobody said we couldn’t keep it for ourselves."

Leroy rose a brow at the man, wondering if the professor had forgotten about the headmistress banning the caretaker from drinking. Was this some sort of trick? Probably not. People stopped giving a crap about rules on nights like this. "Yeah, thanks," Leroy muttered, taking the flask with a sigh of relief and tipping it back. The familiar burn eased the edges of irritation that flooded through him.

An Easy One || Sorting Hat Drabble

Even though it'd been a couple of decades now, Leroy could still remember his sorting as if it were yesterday. How could he not? After his name had been called and the old dusty hat had been placed around his small head, he felt a connection to someone. Someone other than his mother, at the very least.

His relationship with his father had always been rocky at best. A drinking problem dating back as far as their family line caused the wizard to lash out more often than act as an actual father. His mother on the other hand... so sweet, so caring. It left Leroy hoping that Hogwarts would be filled with others who would care. Since receiving his acceptance letters he spent his days dreaming of what he would learn, who he would meet, what he would do. 

"Ah yes, you're her little dreamer aren't you?" The hat mused inside of his head. 

Leroy attempted to nod, but found it impossible to do so. "Yes, yes. Your mind is filled with limitless hopes and dreams. An imagination and heart that could conquer the world, so long as you do not let your world defeat you." 

What was that supposed to mean? The hat chuckled in his head. "You'll understand one day, little dreamer. For now, enjoy your time in... RAVENCLAW." 

The hat was lifted from his head, greeting him with the sight of the Ravenclaw table clapping enthusiastically as he stumbled over towards them, his robes far too long for his short stature. Though he wanted to be filled with joy at being chosen for such a wonderful house, he couldn't help but linger on the ominous warning the hat had given him. How would his own world defeat him?

Leroy glared out at the sea of students all dancing and parading around in fancy clothing their parents wasted way too much money on. It was the same thing each ball. It'd start out all innocent and happy, then the punch would get spiked (his personal favourite part), someone would break up, another would cheat, so on and so on. By the time all the students went to bed half would feel like they were on cloud nine (probably from the drinking) and the other half would feel like their world imploded. 

A waste of time, a waste of money, and a waste of his entire night. The only good part was the students tended to bring more alcohol into the school for the ball, meaning his usual sellers would be stocked up. At least, they would if he could get to them before the night was over. "Man I could use a drink," he grunted as a couple of fourth years rushed passed him, giggling and probably off to snog in the bushes. As a member of the staff, it was his job to follow, but he couldn't be arsed to do so right now.
