Career Fair at Aveda 📇

Today was career fair day at Aveda and it was so much fun! About 12 salons where there to tell us about the programs they have and shadowing opportunities. It was so enlightening, and motivating. There were a few places that really stood out to me as somewhere I could see myself growing and thriving. I was able to connect with people in my area who already inspire me. I made some contacts and followed up with them via email once I got home. There may even be some job opportunities for me while I'm in school. We have another career fair just before I graduate in November, I made sure to ask if some of my favorites would be back. Overall, a very successful day. I finished up learning a new cutting technique, the triangular graduation and it's definitely one of my favorites.

Friday, February 24th 2017 Classic bob on Debra. Square cuts aren't as forgiving as a triangular shape but luckily adding texture and layers can help me out when I start working with clients.

Wednesday, January 15th 2017 Third week in Foundations!! We've been doing a lot of nails, universal theory, and preparing for state board. But we got to learn a new hair cutting technique this week-- triangular one length above the shoulders! I absolutely love short haircuts so this was so much fun for me to execute. I wanted to give her layers and a fringe with this cut but I have to wait for all that! Can't wait to practice this one at home 😆

FIRST WEEK OF FOUNDATIONS This week in foundations we learned all about what a nail is, expectations for our new phase, and got to pamper the new intro students!! I know I am really going to love this phase. Not only do we get to see nail clients, but we will be working on new haircuts, and working on quotas so I get that practice practice PRACTICE. Which I love. Above is some creative styling I did on this new intro student, we went for a Gwen Stefani inspired look. She loved it, and looked like a badass for the rest of the day.

Friday, January 27th 2017 Practiced French tip and single color manicures today. Evelyn had beautiful nails, so it was easy to make it look good 😉💅🏽

Thursday, January 26th 2017 LAST WEEK OF INTRO!! During the last week of Intro we learned all about manicures and pedicures. I cannot believe we are going to be moving on to the next phase, it feels like just yesterday we were getting our kits. So excited to start seeing nail clients in Foundations 😊

Wednesday, January 18th 2017 Model Day :: Partial Foil I was really nervous about model day today because I've been having some trouble with foiling, and formulas. But I'm actually quite pleased with the results! My model wanted some warm blonde highlights so ✨abracadabra✨ I made them appear 😉 Although they turned out pretty nice (and she LOVED how it turned out 💚) I still want foiling and formulas to be a focus for me, and keep practicing that at home. I know the skill will come with time but I at least want to feel more comfortable when I give it another go. I spent the rest of the day studying, and doing a makeup tutorial with my classmates. It's crazy to think that we will be moving out of Introduction and in to Foundations in just one more week. Time flys in cosmetology school!!

Saturday, January 14th 2017 MODEL DAY #3 :: Cut and Style I had so much fun today 😬 my guest came in looking to take some length off her hair and bring up the length of her bangs, as well as add some movement and body throughout her hair. I gave her a square one length below cut, and some long layers. She specifically asked not to have framing around her face so we left those pieces out and just blended her bangs in at the end. I pre booked her to come back to get a cut in 6 weeks. She wants to grow her hair out, but hadn't had her hair cut in 3 months. I explained to her that in order to grow out her hair she needed to maintain those ends by getting a cut every 6 weeks otherwise they will split and break and not give her that healthy thick length she wants. She wasn't aware of this and was very pleased to know how to grow her hair out the right way. She walked out feeling pampered and beautiful, and I had so much fun being a part of that. I really enjoy educating my guests on product, and their hair. You see them absorbing it and feeling so grateful to have someone give them advice on their hair. I love it.

Friday, January 13th 2017 Today we learned all about Aveda Skin Care and I was in heaven. I'm already a skin care junkie with all of my natural oils and moisturizers and cleaners-- but I haven't been formally introduced to all of Avedas skin care. And I am IN LOVE. There are at least 10 products I want to purchase to add to my daily regime. So thank goodness I have a student discount, otherwise I'd (happily) go broke. Today was probably one of my favorite days so far, as far as lecture classes go. Can't wait to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with all of my future guests. Cross promoting for the spa is definitely happening from this student 😊

Thursday, January 12th 2017 Learned how to do a thumb lock on kinky, textured hair! Although I love curly hair, I do think it's pretty amazing how I can turn her wild spiral locks into a smooth, polished blowout. 💆🏾😍

Tuesday, January 11th 2017 Styled this beauty's hair for Beacon this year! I turned her into a Teddy Girl and she LOVED IT. I started by curling her hair with my marcel, then I curled her bangs with a teeny tiny curling rod that we have at school. After that I gave her some messy victory rolls on either side of her head. Then I took pieces from the bottom and back of her head and pinned them on top so that the curls laid next to the victory rolls. Finally, I teased and shaped her bangs to give her that greaser look. We took a ton of pictures and she walked out smiling from ear to ear. And so did I :) my model is a musician and she makes soul music, so she asked me to do her hair for her next video shoot 😁
